Is it worth it to get the dvd or to just buy the videos? This will be my first cathe and would like to know if a beginner would be able to do these two workouts....and would I get results? I won't beable to use heavy weights, right now I just worked up to 5##, but the idea of a circuit tape appeals to me.
Also, I don't have a step, do I really need one? I have a rubber maid step stool would that work or not??
One more thing, Ab hits, what do you like about it? Is it just a lot of traditional ab work, do you really get results with it? sorry for all the ?'s, but I am looking to get in good shape before I get pregnant, so hopefully it will be easy to stay in shape during, and need good workouts for after!

Has Cathe ever thought of doing a post partum video?

I think Cardio Kicks and Circuit Max are pretty intense for a beginner. If you are new to Cathe and stepping, I would suggest Classics Vol I DVD. It will get you in 'step talk' (i.e basic step, triples, knee-up, round-the-world, etc) and get used to some of Cathe's moves.

Yes, you need a big step for most of Cathe workout (not Cardio Kicks). A rubber maid step stool would not work. You can get a STEP Co step (the same one Cathe uses in her videos) at www.fitness1st.com for $65 + shipping.

I LOVE Ab Hits. You need both cardio and muscle to show off a well-defined abs. I have a layer of fat that I need to get rid off -- so that the muscle underneath would show off. You also need to do core exercises (i.e. planks as in ab hits) to complete your mid-section workout. Yes, I highly recommend Ab Hits DVD. It is the best bang for your buck for your abs.

From what I've heard in the forum, Cathe uses CTX videos to get in shape after her first son. I would not recommend CTX to a beginner though -- it's very intense and Cathe 'assumes' that you're familiar with her moves. She only has 30 mins of cardio in CTX, and she does not have time to teach the combos AND get your heart rate up at within 30 mins.

HTH.

ok, thank you! It's really hard for me to tell how tough a tape will be unless I get opinions. I'm going to look into the classics vol.1 dvd, maybe I can hint around and hubby will get it for me for xmas!

Hi Gettinfit,

Today was my first time with Circuit Max too! It was really tough, but I had a blast. I'm not a beginner, but I still had to modify quite a bit. I loved it! I'm looking forward to getting better at this one.

I agree that this one is pretty advanced.

Hi Honeydew,

Same here. It is hard to tell sometimes. However, it's not too bad if you get something that's hard. I remember getting BodyMax and finding it impossible, but I started out by doing just a section or two. I also modified like crazy. But it did get easier and easier over time. I can make it all the way through now, although I still have to modify some moves.

Honeydew, are you a FIRM user? (b/c of the rubbermaid stool)
If you are, which FIRMS are you using as a beginner?

(if you are using them, I am making an assumption! ;))

I would not start out with CMAX and CK as a beginner, Circuit Max is one of Cathe's toughest videos IMO and I am advanced...
I agree, I wouldn't want you to get overwhelmed, but you could take one section at a time.

I think before you buy a big lot of Cathe videos, you should watch the video clips on the site, maybe buy one tape and see if it suits you, before spending so much on the dvd...

I probably have to agree with Jaime. Buying a Cathe DVD is like buying 3 videos at the same time... you hate to spend that much and decided you do not like stepping (stepping is not for everybody!). Of course, us Cathe-fan, prefers to have as many workouts as possible in one DVD! Furthermore, you probably need to include strength training in your rotation. The only benefit of getting the DVD is the rewind-factor and skipping-factor...

For a beginner, I heard Step Jam or Mega Step Blast is good for cardio. You might want to do a search on 'beginner' in this forum to find out more. I suggest Maximum Intensity Strength for your weight work. You can divide it into upper and lower body (30 mins ea). As a beginner, you do not want to overwhelmed yourself (too much, too soon) and lose interest. Cathe gives some form pointers in MIS, and you just use whatever weight that challenges you. Increase the weight when it feels too light.

Anyway, I STILL recommend Ab Hits DVD!

well, I am just starting out with the firm. firm parts standing legs and just got tough aerobic mix. I just need something that is going to work, I've done Tamilee Webb and Denise Austin with basically no results. I will do a search for beginner and see what comes up and maybe I will get that abs dvd~I totally need work on that area! Never got it back into shape after having a baby and that was 4 years ago!! Thanks for all the suggestions~
