Cardio Equipment

Does anyone have suggestions for cardio machines? I can buy 2 and am thinking of an elliptical machine and spin bike, but they are quite pricey. I have a great subdivision to walk in with hills and such, so I thought a treadmill would be a waist. I'd like to hear what others have and like and don't like, and what the best recommended machines are.
Thanks, Autumn68 :D

I have a regular stationary bike and wish I would have bought a spin bike.

I bought a TM a few years back and like that. We live on the edge of town and wild animals kind of worried me walking in the early/late hours of the day. We've had alleged mountain lion sitings, also warning TMI I walk in the AM and sometimes you don't have to ahem go but then it hits you when you are on the other side of town and there is no place to go  so the TM has come in handy.
I'm still thinking about getting a rower this fall.
My mom has an elliptical but I've never tried it so I have no comment on that.

Sorry i've been of no help except I wouldn't buy the stationary bike if I had it to do over with.

I have an elliptical and I absolutely LOVE it! If you plan to run outside then an elliptical is the perfect choice for cross training. It makes sense to have a low impact option.

I don't know how much you want to spend, but when it comes to elliptical machines I really think that you get what you pay for. I have a Precor and it's a fantastic machine, but the model I have (5.23) is older and has been discontinued. I was just looking at the newer models and quite frankly, I prefer mine. If I was going to buy another one I'd look at an Octane. They have wonderful reviews and I've been told that they are outselling both Life Fitness and Precor for the home user. Of course, there are several other brands to choose from as well, but I'm not familiar with them. My single best advice is to try several machines before you buy. Every elliptical is different and what works for me may not feel good to you. One thing in favor of the Octane is that you can adjust the stride length.

I'd love to get a spin bike. Rowing machines kind of appeal to me, too. Have fun shopping!!!

P.S. If you get a cardio machine be sure to invest in some audio workouts. I HIGHLY recommend Cardio Coach! :D

Shoot, I missed a perfect opportunity to promote Cardio Coach.

Nancy324, I am amused. Are you bored today? in many threads there are "Just bumping. Don't mind me. " lol :D

I bought dh an elliprical a few months back & we all love it. I have never tried a spin bike but I think that would be my next choice to buy also. Good luck & have fun shopping!

Yes - I would consider the elliptical too!

I have a TM - I can change the incline - which I like a lot. Like Tamrahan, it is a wildlife/crazy drivers/safety/weather thing.

I have a stationary bike - I went cheap on this one so I could fit it in a small corner of my workout room, it is perfect, but when I reconfigure things I would like to upgrade to a spin bike.

I have a rowing machine. Love it. Great for low-impact days or recovering from injuries, and just an alternative.

I'll use the rower on days I do a leg work out and the bike on days when I do an upper body work out.

And I echo the Cardio Coach plug. Miss Lee - I am so very happy with Sean O'.

What kind of rowing machine do you have?

The Kettler Coach Magnetic Rower, I have been very happy with the Kettler and have not had any problems with it. At the time we were looking for rowers the Concept two's footprint was a bit too big for our space. The newer Concept two's, from what I understand, are now movable and space friendly.

Well, I love, love, love my stepmill. I also have an arc trainer that I got instead of an elliptical b/c ellipticals will end up hurting my knees/back. Have a TM too that I love. I bike a lot but instead of a spin bike, I have a Cycleops Fluid 2 trainer that I put my bike in and ride inside. Basically the same thing but you also have a regular bike for riding outside. I highly recommend Cardio Coach too :) If/when you do get one, check with the store and see if a doctor's Rx will save you sales tax. It does here (Texas) and I saved tons that way.

I just have to say SPIN BIKE!!!!!!

I've had mine for 4 or 5 years and it was the best investment ever! And, just this year, Miss Lee got me hooked on Cardio Coach...so that's a must have! (Volume 8 is my personal favorite!) I also have about 15 or 20 Spinervals which are great workouts!

I also have a treadmill that I've had for 10 or so years. I use my spin bike a ton! GET IT!!!

That's just my two cents!

One more comment. I've never used an elliptical much so can't give a good opinion on that....but did I say SPIN BIKE!!!
