Carbs can cause Cancer???

It is near imposible to know for sure what causes cancer. Most people would agree that smoking causes cancer. However I think most people also know at least one person who smoked from the time they were 9 or something and still died of something none cancer related at an old age. That does not mean that smoking does not cause cancer it just means humans are all differant and have a zillion differant factors that determine how healthy they are going to be.

It does not help that the media is often eager to jump on any headline. Anyone remember that study that was front page a couple of months ago that people that are a little heavy are actually in better health than people that are thin?

The people on this forum are already taking major steps in cancer prevention by exersising. I also think a diet based off of whole foods is important. Other than that I think that everyone should do their own research and determine how serious they want to take the headlines.

Oh, no!!! I was born in MD! Good thing I always keep my tin foil hat on!

I kid. I kid.

But seriously, it does seem for every study that says something causes cancer, there is another study to counteract that.

:D :D You are funny Ms. Lorie!

I am of the same opinion of most. Every dang thing causes this horrific disease, so screw it. My grandmother died of it, the biggest health nut you ever saw, I grew up eating raw lecithin and lentil loaf served at her dining room table. She walked 5 miles and day, every day of her life and died of cancer. Gosh, I hate that friggin disease.

Do what you like, live your life as you like and be ready to take responsibility for your actions.

I mean keep the studies coming, its important, sigh, anyway, its a sore subject with me I suppose, I lost a friend this year to lung cancer.

Lorie - I love how you keed! I snorted when I read your post - and that's saying something! Funnee!!

tneah - I am very sorry for your loss.

I don't know kids, I think it's a crapshoot. My Grandfather smoked his entire life. CONSTANTLY. The walls of his house were yellow from it. He also ate junk food like a man starving! He died in his sleep at 97 years old. Years ago my Aunt died of cancer - brain and spinal tumors. She was only 18, an incredible athlete and lived a very healthy lifestyle. You just never know . . . our bodies, our tolerance/intolerance levels are all so different. I too, tend to ignore the latest thing that will cause cancer racket.

I think it's worth mentioning that not all studies are created equal. Understanding how studies are conducted, whether or not they are peer reviewed, the sample size, and the sampling techniques used are just a few of the factors that determine research quality. Some studies are just better than others. I'm taking a research class right now (can you tell?:)) and it's just facinating to learn how rigorous the research process can be. Much (not all) of the research we see in the media is of low to moderate quality. It should be stated that all of the technological and medical achievements we enjoy in life are the result of great research.

You know, most people don't realize approximately 10% of smokers get lung cancer. Mind you I'm not advocating smoking, & 10% is still a pretty big number, but lung cancer isn't a guarantee as some might think.

In any case, as we all know, there are some people out there who believe cell phones cause cancer, microchipping pets causes cancer, computers cause cancer, yadda yadda yadda.

I ignore the media & just do what makes me feel good.

Wait 'til the study that says sex causes cancer hits the stands! Ha-ha! How many people are gonna give up sex?
