Carbonated drinks

I thought I read somewhere that having carbonated drinks before working out would make you feel tired and slow during your workout. Does anyone know? I usually only drink water, but wanted some motivation today to work out and thought I might get a boost from a diet drink with some caffeine. But, I was not sure about the carbonation.

"Carbonated drinks"

One thing I do know about carbonated drinks: They encourage and complicate UTIs (urinary tract infections). If you've ever had one, you're probably shuddering by now. I'm positive that having caffine shortly before your workout does sap your energy! Don't get me wrong, I love my morning coffee, but let's face it, caffine is really just "faux energy". I've also heard it said that if you're trying to lose weight, caffine only hurts your efforts because your body burns caffine off as a priority before fat or calories. Now, I don't know if that last thing is acurate, but all in all, caffine is the wrong thing to have before a workout. (Oh yeah, caffine also contributes to UTIs). I like to have some kind of low fat bread (english muffin, bagel with preserves instead of cream cheese) a little while before I workout, I know it's not exciting, but I feel the real energy kicking in just when I need it!

Caffeine and Working Out

Charlene Prickett says on an old video (One of the Rev Up ones) that caffeine actually enhances fat burning if one drinks it and works out aerobically at least 30 minutes. I don't know if research has proven different, but Charlene is quite knowledgeable and as I recall, a great follower of Dr. Kenneth Cooper.

Yeah well, Charlene also doesn't think warming up is especially important, ya know! Caffine is a drug, not energy or nutrition. If there's some study that proves the fat burning properties of caffine, I'd be more than a little interested in seeing it, otherwise I wouldn't take anything Charlene says for granted. She likes to talk like she knows so much, but I don't have much respect for her self proclaimed "expertise".

Hey Amy, sorry....

...I sounded like a real jerk. I didn't realize how rude my response sounded until I just looked again. Just wanted to apoligize. Take care and step on!
