CAPPUCCINO?

Hi,
While we're on the topic of clean diet, does anyone know how fattening a cappuccino is. Like for instance a french vanilla without any of the whip topping and I'd say it's about an 16oz cup.
My daughter brings me home one every evening and I love em. She says she gets it from the gas station out of the machines. Anyone have any idea's?

thanks
michelle~

or a regular one with 2% milk is 2.6 grams of fat--I guess it all depends on what kind of milk and what else is in it----I use to drink vanilla chai--yummy--but the buzz was incredible and I was jumping out of my skin--then I seen the fat content and said goodbye! I have an addictive personality, so I'd rather not torture myself and drink it at all !

I try to make it a rule that anything I drink has no calories. I'm lucky I like black coffee! You can really sop up the calories with drinks alone. I'm always amazed at people who drink a lot of pop (soda to some of you in the east), and don't realize that they're taking in hundreds of calories before they've eaten anything.

Ya gots ta watch them labels!!!!

I just pulled out my handy-dandy Weight Watchers points book--a "grande" (about 10 ounces) is 2-4 points depending on where you get it. That's an average of 140 to 280 calories. WOW!!!!!

Honeybunch, I'm with you! I'm a black coffee drinker and I won't waste my calories on drinks. I've always been that way too! I must have a "diet soda" with my pizza! LOL!

I've been drinking diet soda since the days when it was sweetened with saccharine. I suspect I was much better off with the saccharine then I am with the aspertame. Who knows what the risks of aspertame will turn out to be? Whatever they are, I will be the first to be affected as I am an absolute ADDICT and cannot give up diet soda to save my life-- literally! I honestly believe that without it I would be out of control of my weight. I was recently visiting in Vermont and tasted tap water from a well that was so good that I knew it could replace diet soda for me; but I've never found anything bottled that tastes as good, and, unfortunately, I don't live in Vermont! :-(

me too, me too!
I just can't 'spend' my calorie allowance on soda pop. I drink a lot lot lot of water, and decaffeinated and herbal teas with soy milk. Coffee with soy milk or black, too, once in a while. When I need to drink Gatorade, I even have a hard time with that because I think of it as junk, even though I know that it's really fuel for me during a long workout.

Michelle,

It depends on the sugar content (including vanilla syrup) & type of milk. A cappuccino or latte isn't necessarily a nutritional zero. A good substitute for the sugar or syrup is vanilla powder. Limit or eliminate saturated fat w/ 1% or non-fat milk or soy milk which is kind of sweet anyhow.

Coffee drinks can be a heavy dose of empty calories. Maybe your daughter could find out some nutritional details?

I'm glad I never got into the sweet drink habit. Not that I don't have my own nutritional hazards!

I drink a cappuccino every day, but I make it myself on my machine at home and I know exactly how many calories it has. My cappuccino is the equivalent of two dairy servings, so it helps me get my calcium. I don't know what the info is on those machine drinks, but I'll bet it's pretty close to the info on the packaged cappuccino powders you can get from the grocery store.

Other than my cappuccino, I drink calorie-free drinks because it's way to easy to get 500-600 extra calories a day from drinks.

I prefer not drink calories also. I make the exception with protein powder mixed with water after every workout and the occasional glass of milk.

If I do make a more substantial protein drink in the blender with fruit or juice, it counts as a meal. No other solid food with it. I don't do this often.

OK, definitly steer very clear of ANYTHING out of a machine. I am referring to the ones in the gas stations of course. Those things just seem really gross to me. You have no idea how often they are cleaned and many times the ingredients are fakey ingredients, ie. not real dairy milk. I say if you love em' get a machine for home like Jenne and make your own. Two dairy servings atleast represents lots of protein. You gotta calculate it in your total for the day, though.

Wow..I can't believe that many of you guys don't drink milk. I don't drink my calories either but always fit milk into..well, usually breakfast and dinner. Good calcium!!

Makes me always wonder why I am still so fat when I see all my acquaintances drinking soda all day and eating crap. Really gets to ya sometimes, you know?? You would think as concientous as we all are that we would look a world different!! I am sure I feel a world different though......

Regarding calcium, I remember reading somewhere not that long ago about the connection between calcium and weight control. Perhaps it was a Prevention magazine article on "the ice cream diet". Not only have I read about it, but I think I have experienced it. I eat ridiculous amounts of ice cream or frozen yogurt every day - a weakness I have never been able to overcome - and I don't really have a weight problem. I really think that the more calcium you take in, the better for weight control. Not to mention prevention of osteoporosis, which may be even more important. I don't remember the scientifc explanation behind it, but, long story short, cappucino with skim milk is a great way to get more calcium for minimum calories.

Yep... gotta have my milk.. I feel alot better beeting osteoporisis this way than with just the supplements. Also drink the oj with calcuim... tropicanna yumm...

Gotta got get somenow now!

Relax, I don't "drink" milk, but I do ingest some everyday - 2 cups worth - with my daily dose of SF/FF Jello pudding. I also take a calcium supplement.

Hi Michelle! My husband and I are addicted to those cappuccino drinks. Unfortunately, they probably do rack up about 300 calories. What we do is make ours half coffee, this cuts the calories. I like sweet but I also love coffee and now I can't bear to drink one of those "straight". We also found a good equivalant to what the convenient market sells at Target in the coffee section. It's called Cafe Prima Cappuccino. Whoever gets up first makes a pot of coffee and then we use the instant cappuccino as the creamer and sugar. Okay, its not a real cappuccino but it tastes yummy and beats Starbucks prices! I also just found a recipe to make the cappuccino powder on my own (just google for instant cappuccino recipe).
