Butter on SBD??

I think the answer is no. I found this in a Google search.
"What's the story with fat?
As you might expect from a cardiologist, the South Beach Diet certainly includes mention of fat. In fact, it recommends avoiding foods rich in saturates and and instead replacing them with heart-healthy monounsaturates like olive oil and nuts".

>Ever? I mean not even in Phase 3?

well... it's one of those foods that you should avoid... by the time you get to phase 3 you should have relearned how to eat.. meaning you are not eating healthy including lower or at least "healthy" fats... soooo if you chose to have butter once in a while.. it shouldn't sabatoge (spelling) you... but it wouldn't be something you would want daily or even every other day or so.... i would, personally, look at as a "treat" type food/item

phase 3 is where you are off the diet but eating healthy to maintain... dr "a" doesn't expect everyone to be strict for the rest of their lives.. that's unrealistic.. heck.. in the book he talks about people that had ice cream every day while in phase 2.. and they were still successful.. but obviously that was the only "cheat".. so if you love butter.. make it your occasional cheat!

also remember that the south beach diet was originally designed for heart patients.. so butter would definitly be a no-no for them!

Butter is not bad for you. Not even a little bit. Butter is real. Butter buds aren't. They are man made. Butter is real. Eat butter.

I use butter, regular sour cream and cheese a frequently but in small amounts which, and this is the most important thing, keep me within my daily caloric intake, of which less than 10% can come from saturated fat. Since I love monounsaturates like olive oil and avacados, I combine differt kinds of fats for the flavor and satisfaction without ending up with too much fat in my diet. Some people who see how I use sat fat and say why bother with a smidge? But fats like butter have wonderful flavor, that mouth feel we never quite get with the fakes and a little goes a long way. Still, if you are serious about SB and you want to forgo butter in the induction phase because you it could de-rail your efforts, don't do it. But do consider using it moderately when you get further on. My neighbor has lost about 10 pounds on SB and brings me samples of the foods, mostly proteins, they are cooking and I am impressed with the yumminess.

I have long refused to be a fatphobe. I even eat my husband's cooking and he has a heavy hand. If I can not have to cook on Sundays, I'll chow down on his offerings but knowing how liberal he is with fats, I eat small portions. When he does pasta dishes, he actually gets mad at me when I make myself whole wheat and flax pasta with it's fabulous 6 grams of fiber. But since I have acquired a taste for it, I like it much better than regular pasta although I will eat that too, on occasion. Nothing is forbidden really but I rarely want anything too junky because my diet is balanced. Good luck with your diet! I hope you get the results you desire!

Thanks so much folks! Today is my first day of induction. I just woke up, weighed myself, and frowned at the scale! Shrug. The number will be different in two weeks! I'm considering doing the induction phase for 4 weeks total - it looks ok to me. That's leave me with 16 weeks before my trip and it looks like I just might make my goal. Fingers are crossed! :)
