Buff Badgers Week of April 16th

heartymax

Cathlete
Hello Ladies! DH has to work this weekend so I had sports duty, errand duty,, cleaning duty, laundry duty, grocery shopping duty, cooking duty, etc. It was truly catch up time since we were away for the break.

Saturday was 40 minutes on the elliptical. Sunday was GS Legs and abs. Today starts my Upper Body Bliss rotation. Up for today was GS Back, Shoulders and Biceps. I was able to go heavier on the back but stayed the same for shoulders (don't want to make it worse than it is) and the same or more for biceps.

DH lost 2lbs last week. He started out exercising 30 minutes last week so with good eating he lost a few pounds. Using the elliptical is new to both of us so I am sure he will increase his time this week. He loved doing an hour on the treadmill when it was working or walking an hour in the neighborhood.

Sam---I can't wait to hear about the road trip!:D I watched the video of the ladies singing Cathe Kick My Butt song. It was hiliarious.

Morning Ladies,

No workouts for me all weekend. I have been suffering from a really bad cold. Nothing this morning either, body just isn't ready. :(

heartymax, Congrats to your DH on his weight loss. After I get over this cold, and finish up M3 I will be heading for GS series also. I think that I can skip the rest week I had planned, now that I had this forced rest week. :D

Have a great day!

HI ladies! Saturday was Hi-Reps Upper Body followed by Jillian's Killer Buns Level 3. This had 1 legged mountain climbers in it. I tell ya, that was not easy! I also took Ruby for a nice long walk Saturday. Sunday was just a walk and some ab work. This morning I woke up with a very sick tummy. Don't know what it is but I know I don't want to be jumping around. Hoping as the day goes on it will go away...

Laurie, hope you get over the cold soon. It's good to listen to your body! You beat it up enough as it is!;) rest well..

Heartymax, sounds like you had a busy weekend including great workouts! COngrats to DH for the weightloss!

Sam-- we're waiting! :p

Hi Sue!

Have a good Monday! Susan

Good morning ladies!!!! Can you tell I'm pumped up? What a fantastic experience! I will say that I am quite sore... but not as much as I thought I would be.

Here are the workouts I did this weekend ;):

Friday- Cathe called it and Afterburn-ish workout. It was structured the same as Afterburn, but with a little impact mixed in and some new moves, like lateral walking plie squats... those added up fast! We did yoga in the evening, it was like a mix of her Max and Relax videos.

Saturday- Workout #1 was kickboxing and a little sliding and gliding. This was the most fun workout of the weekend in my opinion. She invited groups of six to jump up on stage with her, so I got to "hook and upper" right up there with Cathe!

Workout #2 was total body conditioning. This was mostly upper body since out lower body was still very sore. It started with a little cardio, and then moved on to very fast-paced, hi-rep strength. We only used five pound weights and tubing, and my shoulders and triceps are still sore. My heart rate was up the whole time because we were moving so quickly. We did some ab work at the end of this one, including a new move where you hold weights above your shoulders as you lower to the floor, do a pullover while lying down, then, as you lift the weights you sit up and do a shoulder press when you come to the top. I really liked that one. Cathe says it feels much different wiith heavier weights.

Workout #3 was lower body blast! My goodness, this was tough! I was a sweaty, sweaty mess! She threw in some floorwork at the end, but my rear and hamstrings were so spent by then I could hardly complete any of it.

Sunday- Bootcamp. This was mostly running. We ran in circles around the very large room, alternating running with walking, and she had a sprinting a few times too. We also snaked back and forth over the whole room which took a long time. She divided us into two groups and we did walking lunges and bounding across the room as well as sprinting to the middle and running back to our side. To finish we gathered in a circle around Cathe, and she had people come up and tell her which moves to do. We did terminator thrusts, power scissors, football runs, and even my dreaded plie jacks.

I couldn't believe that I got through Sunday's workout, I was so sore when I woke up, and even during the warm up I thought I wouldn't make it. But by the end I felt fantastic (and very tired!) Cathe got all choked up during the cool down, and when we were all done she took the time to give each of us a big sweaty hug.

The rest of the weekend was great, too. I met a very nice lady named Brenda who said she used to be part of the Buff Badgers! I worked out by her all weekend except for Sunday, because she had to leave early. I talked to a bunch of other people too, and everyone was very nice and encouraging. I was particularly inspired by the women there who looked much, much older than me and were in better shape, as well as the women who were still working toward a weight loss goal, but could hang in there with the rest of us. I got teared up just thinking about them on the way home because I know when I was heavy, there was no way I would've had the guts to go on a road trip. They inspired me very much and reminded me that Cathe is about fitness, not about vanity.

I cried when I actually got a minute to talk to Cathe when she signed Imax2 for me .... she was very gracious about it. I got a couple pictures with her that I'll have to post at some point. I was really impressed with her the whole weekend. During the Q&A session she really took the time to answer questions in detail and seemed like she was enjoying the time with us.

She had all of her videos for sale and I bought CTX for only $27 and KPC for only $20! Everything was at least five dollars cheaper than normal price. All the FeelFitWear stuff was there too. It was tempting, and the fabric felt wonderful, but I couldn't justify the price for clothing I'd pretty mcuh just wear in my basement. I think I'll have to watch the website for sales though.

I belong to a very small Facebook group called Staying Motivated that's just a few of my college and high school friends, and I gushed about Cathe so much on there that one of them bought three of her dvds last night! So, I must've been pretty gushy and excited :D

I'm a bundle of nerves right now because my baby brother is in Boston running the marathon as I type. I got the text that his half-marathon split was 1:21:10. He's going at a slower pace than last year, but he had to recalculate his goals because it is 88 and sunny there today. They were even offering deferments to run it next year instead since that weather can be so hard on distance runners. I hope he's okay. I don't care about his time, just want him to be safe. He promised he'd drop out if he started to feel really bad.

Have a great day everyone... sorry for the long post :p

Update: My little brother had to drop out of the race. His pace was getting slower and slower and he wasn't feeling very good :( I'm really bummed for him because he's in much better shape than he was last year. Running in the heat has always been his achilles.

Sorry I didn't post much last week. I thoroughly enjoyed my time off. On Thursday I didn't even change out of my pajamas until 1:00 in the afternoon! :D Made up for it on Friday and Saturday though. DD, DS and I toured UW-Madison and did tons of walking. She's impressed but I hear Madison is very hard to get into. Her ACT score is good enough but I don't know if her GPA and class rank will be good enough.

On Saturday I did Athletic Step which I tried once and gave up on. This time I had no trouble with the moves and really enjoyed it. I was motivated to do spring cleaning so I was a whirlwind moving from room to room. Even vacuumed out my car. Yesterday, it caught up to me and I didn't do anything. This morning I did KCM Split Sessions Total Body Timesaver premix 35 min.

Sam - I'm glad your brother dropped out before he succumbed to heat exhaustion. That has to be disappointing for him after training all year but better to play it safe. I'm so glad you had a great time at the Road Trip! :D You got some really good deals on dvds, too. I'll bet you're taking a well-deserved rest day today.

Susan - Hope that sick tummy feels better soon! I can't even picture myself doing 1 legged mountain climbers. Sounds crazy!

Laurie - DH had a bad cold last week, too and I thought last night I was coming down with it. So far, so good today. (fingers crossed) STS is almost done already for you? Wow! That went fast.

Heartymax - You're making me want an elliptical really bad. I think it's something the whole family can use. Unfortunately, we have other things we need to buy right now (sigh).

Have a great day ladies!

Hi Ladies,

Brenda here. I had to check out the posts with meeting and getting to know Sam over the weekend on the RT. If you all don't mind, I'd like to jump back in on the postings with the Buff Badgers.

I agree with Sam on everything she said about the road trip. It was such an amazing experience. I'd love to do it again if I could. I didn't want the weekend to end. I was bummed that I missed the good-byes with Cathe on Sunday.

Sam - I hope you took today off from working out and gave your body a rest. I know yesterday I didn't do much of anything. I slept really bad Saturday night so I was completely exhausted on Sunday. Heck my glutes, hams, and inner thighs are still sore. The transition from sitting to walking is a little slow.

I woke up this morning and had contemplated taking another rest day but then thought it might help if I get up and do something to warm up the muscles, so I decided to do something a little on the easier side and did Cardio Kicks. I haven't done that workout in a long time. Love the drills at the end.

I'm hoping that someday I can do another Cathe Road Trip. I had soooo much fun!!

Sam, again, it was a pleasure meeting you and getting to know you. You should be so proud of yourself for your weight loss accomplishment. I do know how you feel. I was overweight as a child and got picked on something terrible. Once I got out of high school I decided I needed to take control of things and do something about it. I didn't now about Cathe at that time so I did things on my own.

BTW Sam, how was your German dinner? :) Also sorry to hear your brother wasn't able to finish the race.

Brenda

Brenda---welcome back to the group. You must have been a part of the check in before me. I am 43 year old, married for 17 years and have two boys. I have been working out at home for 14 years and about 10 of those have been to Cathe. I just finished another 3.5 STS rotation and I started the Upper Body Bliss rotation this week which includes GS and Slow and Heavy.

Sam---so glad you enjoyed the roadtrip. What a wonderful experience to be able to spend itme with a group of people who value exercise and the Cathe life that we live. I love your idea of the facebook group. I don't have a group but I do post about my workouts almost daily and I have had many people message me to say that I have inspired them to start working out again or just motivate them to stay on top of their goals and not slack off. At one point, I stopped posting about my workouts and then I had some people ask me to start back because they looked forward to reading it because it motivated them to do something. I never knew that people really cared about those post. I try to encourage anyone is trying to live a healthier lifestyle.

Sue---glad Athletic Step worked out for you this time. I didn't like it the first time I did it either and It was probably at least 6 months to a year before I tried it again and now i like it.

Susan--I got High Reps or STS Total Body squeezed in my rotation that I am doing now. That is one tough workout.

Laurie--hope you feel better soon.

Today was Imax 2 and after all these years that interval 9 with the plie jumps are tough still. I have major DOMS all over my body today so the fact that I actually got out of bed to workout is an accomplishment. GS Legs on Sunday and GS Biceps, Shoulders and Back yesterday. My biceps and hamstrings are singing to me. I told my husband that it is amazing how I can have these kind of DOMS after all the years of working out and I just finished a round of STS. I guess this is a great follow up to STS because my entire body is reminding me that I work out. Tomorrow is Chest and Triceps--please send some positive vibes my way as I prepare for those drop set push ups.

Good morning! No workout for me yesterday. I plan to do Kick, Punch and Crunch this afternoon. I've been dying to try it for months and now I actually have it thanks to the RT :)

Brenda- So glad to see you here! I was thrilled to meet someone right away who lived right in my area and was so easy to talk to :D

Laurie- Sorry to hear you've been sick. DH had a terrible cold last week. I was terrified of catching it before the trip. I hope you're feeling better by now.

Susan- One legged mountain climbers???? How does that even work? I'm picturing myself doing a faceplant on my carpet trying to attempt something like that.

Sue- UW Madison has such a beautiful campus. Even if your DD doesn't go there, it's pleasant place to walk around for a day.

Heartymax- The FB group was started by a close friend of mine. There aren't a ton of posts for everyday workouts, but we like to share our little ups and downs with each other. I'm nervous about someone else starting Cathe workouts because of me! I'll feel responsible if she's disappointed!

My brother was pretty bummed about his race at first, but he felt better when he found out the guy who won it last year also dropped out right around mile18. He's looking around for other marathons he can run this spring/summer to qualify for Boston next year.

I wish they'r post more pictures from the road trip! I'm anxious to find myself. There is one floating around with someone doing an awesome job on bicycle crunches... and I'm in the background giving up :D So, I'd like to see something a bit more flattering :p

Have a great day, everyone!

Morning Ladies,

No workout again for me again. I'm feeling better, but not well enough to workout quite yet.

Susan, Hope that stomach ailment went away. I am having a really hard time being still. I know that I shouldn't over do anything though. ;)

Sam, Loved reading about the great time that you had on the RT. So glad that you got CTX and KPC, both of those are great DVD's. Sorry that your brother had to drop out, but he got into the race and tried. ;) Glad he isn't giving up, and will try again for next year.

Brenda, Nice to talk to you again. Glad that you had a good time on the RT also. Love Cardio Kicks!

Sue, Glad that you enjoyed you time off. I hope that you are able to avoid this cold. Probably the worst one that I have had in years. That is what I have heard about UW Madison also. I know that alot of kids go to one of the other colleges in the system, and then transfer.

heartymax, What are you on an Imax run! :D Or should I say glutten for punishment. ;) You are making me excited about getting to the GS workouts. Push-up mania! You can do it!

Have a great day!

Hi, Brenda! I am 47 years old, married with 2 kids ages 15 and 17. I've been working out with Cathe for 12 years now. I went on a Glassboro Road Trip in 2005 which was a lot of fun and I'm glad I did it but probably wouldn't go again because of the cost. I'm at a low point right now in my fitness journey - weight is up, eating badly, missing lots of workouts and having a hard time getting motivated. :( There is a lot going on right now at home and work and I keep coming back here because you guys motivate me. My trouble is consistency. I'll have 1 good day and then 1 bad day. Repeat over and over. Hard to make any progress that way. I won't give up though. . .

Sam - LOL on being in the background giving up on bicycle crunches! I'll bet your body was saying "Please stop" by the end of the weekend. Love the combos in KPC!

Laurie - Transferring to Madison is an option, too. I also want to look at Platteville since she's interested in Engineering. A co-worker's son goes there and it sounds like a good program. A little farther away though. . .

Heartymax - Sending good vibes for those drop-set pushups. You can do it! Mind over matter.

Hi, Susan!

Today was my early morning so no workout yet. I'll have an empty house tonight so my challenge is to make sure I head down to the basement for my workout instead of the kitchen. Our church is taking family pictures this summer and I DO NOT want my picture taken the way I look right now. I'm thinking of doing Athletic Step since I enjoyed it so much over the weekend.

Hi Everyone!!

It must have been a day for Imax 2. That was my workout this morning as well. With Sam talking about it over the weekend made me want to do that workout. I haven't done Imax 2 in a while, still enjoy it. I agree, blast 9 with the plie jacks still gets me too after all this time.

Laurie - glad you're feeling a little better. You don't want to jump back into things before your body is ready.

Sam - you'll have to let us know what you thought of KPC. I absolutely love that workout.

I need to get myself back on a rotation. I've been winging it the past few weeks.

Heartymax - let us know how GS Chest & Tri's went. When the day came that I was actually able to do all the push-ups in GS, I was thrilled. It took a long time for me to get to that point. GS series is a great workout. You go on all those push ups!!

I too, am anxiously waiting for more pics from the Road Trip.

Make it a great day!!
Brenda

I can't believe it but I managed to get through the drop set push ups for a total of 72. I was so happy to hear Cathe say " you can take a longer break if you need it". I felt like she was saying that just for me because I definitely needed it. I had to do a few less reps on the chest presses after that because I was so tired from all the push ups and didn't do the last set of incline chest flys. I moved on to the triceps and wow are they fried right now too.

I told DH that I get excited about my workouts. He says that working out does not excite him but he does it. He says it just doesn't give him that same feeling that I have about getting up and doinig it. He knows how much I love my Cathe workouts.

Sorry--but I am running behind this morning so I have comment on other things later.

Good morning! I did do KPC yesterday afternoon. I was a sweaty mess! I liked it a lot, but I'll have to perfect some of those combinations the next time I do them. I actually enjoyed the ab section, which is saying a lot for me... except for those pikes, can't do those yet.

Heartymax- Woohoo! WTG on the push ups! I know you've been working hard on them. My DH doesn't understand my love of working out either ;)

Brenda- Yup, blast nine. That's the one. I finally figured out that if I do ice breakers instead of plie jacks for most of them I can actually get through it. Otherwise, toast. Oh! And I forgot to tell you that my huge German meal was delicious!

Sue- The last time I was in a low spot with fitness/eating you mentioned a Jillian podcast to me about her saying to "stop shooting tires". That really stuck with me and I remember it often, especially when I screw something up during the day and am tempted to eat fried pies and potato chips while I watch Mad Men all evening. You'll get out of this low spot, I know it! You're still getting your workotus in, and that will take you a long way.

Laurie- How are you feeling? Any better? I know it must be killing you to not workout.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to get anything in today. I have a meeting at 6, so if I'm going to it'll have to be squeezed in this afternoon some point. I was thinking of Turbo Barre, but I don't know yet. Have a great day!

Morning Ladies,

One more day and I think I should be good with this cold. Might even try something after work, shall see how I feel. Youngest has a track meet so I will be the only one home.

Sue, I don't know how you feel about UW Milwaukee, but they have a good engineering program also. Sorry to hear that you are in that exercise blah stage. It is going to be hard getting back after being off so long. I know that I just have to do one and then another. ;)

Brenda, Another person that needed to torture herself! I don't mind plie jacks, but don't make me do tuck jumps over and over! :p Just can't stand those things.

heartymax, Congrats on getting through all those push-ups. What did you use for determining your weight? I was planning on using M1, but didn't know what % I should try.

Sam, I am feeling a lot better this morning, but was still very tired this morning. It is killing me, but I know that this cold was one of the worst ones I have had in a long time. Don't want it to stick around just because I was doing something stupid. ;) You will get those combos down, I think I had a problem on the last one with the block/jump kick/side kick. Pikes on the ball are tough, but doable. :)

Have a great day!

Hi ladies! Sorry I failed to post yesterday. it was a crazy day. I did get on the elliptical for 40mn. I used the sports training program. I do not know what sport I was training for, but it was tough!:D Last night I did not get to bed til midnight and then I slept poorly so needless to say I overslept today. I hope to do something after work. I asked DH not to let me sleep like that but he decided I needed it!

Hi Brenda! Nice to see you again!:)

Heartymax, way to go!!

Sam, on IMAX2 I actually find interval 5 the worst. I do not like going over and back and then doing those plyo & air jacks. I actually like #9!

Hi Sue! I feel out of whack with my workouts this week. I think part of it is I am tired and my stomache is still kind of yucky. Hope you get out of your slump soon! I think if the weather would be better, my attitude would be too!

Have a good day all! Susan

Hi Everyone!!

This morning I dicided to do weights so I got out Muscle Max. I'm reverting back to workouts I haven't done in a while. We'll see if I'm sore tomorrow or not. The low ends in the squats and static lunges always get me. Not real fond of the plie squats in this workout...well, there not actually squats, more like pulses. My legs burn by the time I'm done with those.

My DH somewhat understands my passion and love for working out. He has it for snowmobiling so he somewhat gets it. Don't know if I'll ever figure out a way to get my DH to workout out though. He knows he should but chooses not to make time for it.

Heartymax - way to go on all those push-ups in GS.

Sam - after a few times of doing KPC, you'll be a pro at the combo's. Those pike's are hard. I don't know what hurts worse after I do those my abs or my shoulders. They are hard.

Laurie - glad to hear you're getting better each day. Maybe try a some yoga this afternoon.

Susan - good to hear you felt a little better to get a workout in.

Sue - hang in there, you'll get yourself back on track and we're here to support you.

I sneak on here while I'm eating my lunch at work. So it's back to the grind.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
Brenda

After everyone took off last night after dinner, I almost blew off my workout but thought about what I wrote in my checkin earlier in the day and decided "No! Stop making excuses and get your butt downstairs!". So I did Athletic Step and added on a couple of Drill Max sections and a few HIIT 30-30 intervals. I love mixing and matching like that. Got a good sweat on and felt GREAT afterwards.

Susan - I agree about the weather. I'm itching to get outside and try jog/walking again.

Laurie - DD kind of goes back and forth on how she feels about UW-Milwaukee so we'll see. I wish sometimes I had Jillian or someone to yell at me to go workout or make poor eating choices (although she's too extreme IMO). Glad you're feeling better.

Sam - Those KPC combos get more fun as you get to know them. I admit to having to rewind a few times when I was learning them. I know that analogy Jillian uses about shooting tires. It's like I have the "good Sue" who knows she should workout and eat healthy and then I have the "bad Sue" who wants to be lazy and eat crap all day. Bad Sue has been dominating Good Sue lately. :(

Heartymax - Good job on the pushups! I like to pause the dvd player and do all the pushup sets at my own pace instead of taking longer breaks. My DH doesn't get excited about workouts either but he does enjoy bicycling.

Brenda - I need to get on a rotation, too. Over Christmas break I took inventory of all my workout dvds and few vhs tapes I still use and entered them into a spreadsheet. I'm tracking the date I use them so I can 1) make better use of what I have instead of doing the same ones over and over and 2) weed out what I don't use. I started out the year doing a Slow and Heavy and Gym Style rotation. Right now I'm doing a lot of miscellaneous stuff but want to do rotations using STS, P90X, Barry's Bootcamp, Jillian, S90, 4DS and whatever else I decide. (Some of those might be shortened from 90 days to 30 or 60.)

Have a great day everyone!

Laurie------I was thinking the same as you-----I am using 65% to 70% for GS. The are 3 sets of 12 reps with very little rest between and since we exhaust the muscle group before moving own that makes it hard to lift any heavier for me. For some exercises, I go heavier than Cathe and some I do the same and some I struggle to do what she is doing because I am so tired by the end of the exercise for that muscle group. I did biceps on Monday and they were still sore yesterday. They seem okay today but it is this rotation has GS biceps, back and shoulders again tomorrow.

Sue---Congrats on getting your workout in yesterday. Creating your own workouts can be awesome.

Brenda---I love Muscle Max, especially the leg presses with the band.

Sam---I love the sweaty mess feeling. I can't do any stability ball pikes either.

Susan---the sports training program sounds interesting. My husband is now up to 45 minutes on the elliptical. He has increased his time and speed and doing well. I may be able to introduce him to one of the programs soon. Even though---I am ot doing any of them yet. I am glad he is using the elliptical because when I purchased it I wanted it to be one that is durable enough for both of us so I am pleased.

Today was the step only premix of Cardio Fusion for 48 minute workout.

Good morning! Today I did Jillian's 30 Day Shred, Levels 2 & 3. I have not done this in forever, and now I know why! :D It was fun though.

Heartymax, that's what we looked for in an elliptcal as well. Something that could put up with the demands we were going to put it through! Now DD says she wants to start using it as well. Since she does not like any jumping or high impact, it should be good for her.

Sue, way to go on deciding to work out! Sounds like you had a good mix there.

Brenda, all my DH has ever known about me is that I love to workout. Since I met him 24 years ago, that's the way I have been! And he loves hunting and golf and I repect that. We both have our separate passions which keep us happy!:)

HI Laurie!
Hi Sam!

Almost Friday! Have a good day~ Susan
