Bowflex adjustable weights...

Does anyone use these? Are they easy to switch? Can you switch them fast enough for Cathes workouts? Are they worth the hefty price tag?

I have used these (bought them for my son, who now has them :() and if you can afford them, they are definitely worth the price. They make changing fast. We first bought a cheaper brand which broke within a week, so I would recommend them.

I have them and love them. They do switch pretty quickly, but in my opinion, frequently they don't switch quick enough for Cathe and other workouts. I always need to have the remote nearby to pause the DVD. But even the pause is brief. I think they are very much worth it. I have up to 20 pounds in regular free weights, so I only use my Select Techs for 17.5 pounds and then 22.5 and up--which makes them perfect for Cathe workouts, especially Xtrain.

If you can afford it and have the room I think it would be easier to have the individual weights. I don't have the room, so this was the next best thing. I love them and have no regrets. Sometimes they are awkward because they are so long, but I always find a way to make them work. I hated to make such a big purchase without trying them first, so I cheated. I got them at sports authority to try them with some Cathe videos. I really liked them. So I returned them and got them cheaper online. At the time I didn't care about getting the stand, but I had a coupon code and was able to get it for free. I'm so glad I did, I really like having the stand for them. Good luck!

What exercises do you find them awkward for? I also wish they went in 2.5 increments after #25lbs. I have regular weights up to 15s and I have a pair of 25s then I have a pair of 4s and 7s that have handles so I can stack them with other weights but it gets really awkward. I was thinking of getting a pair of 30s and pace weights but then we were looking at the bowflex and my husband really likes them. I don't know what to do!

I can't remember all of them, but the one that came to mind is when you are seated on the ball, then slide down so you are at a slant and you do bicep curls or hammer curls (something like that). The weights hit the ground. This may happen with regular weights as well, I'm not sure (I don't have individual weights so I'm not able to compare). But overall I really do love the weights! Good luck!

I have been using the bowflex dumbbells for over 3 years now and they are great for some exercises but others are definitely awkward. For instance I think it would be easier to lift heavy when doing squats with a barbell and in 4DS, sometimes she will pick out 4 different dumbbells to use for the same exercise and so you would have to pause for a moment to switch up the dumbbells, or like in STS Total Body she does sets of three different exercises very quickly and she just has her dumbbells and barbell all ready to go to easily switch weights so again you may have to pause for a moment. But all in all - they are very compact and if you can deal with occasionally having to pause to switch them up, they work great. I also would recommend the stand - when using really heavy weights its nice not to have to bend down to the ground to pick them up or put them down.
