BOSU TRAINING SYSTEM

Have any of you tried bosu? What is your opinion about it? Is it a good workout. I'm trying to debate whether I should buy it or not. Can you use a step in the workout to substitute the bosu?
Thanks so much for all your input.
Jera

I have a BOSU and love it. Personally, I find that on some of the high impact step workouts it can be difficult to use the BOSU - but it works really well for Low max (the low impact step workout). I recently bought Mindy Mylrea's BOSU workout and man is that a kick in the butt...whoo doggie! Really high intensity, but none of the impact because of the BOSU. I love it! Here is a link to the dvd.

The BOSU is really versatile and can easily be incorporated into strength workouts, too. It is fun to do push -ups on it when it is rolly side down, or great for lunges, with dome side up. Lots of versatility. You can do squats while standing on the BOSU. All kinds of things that really add intensity to a workout.

I have a Bosu, and lately it's primary purpose has been as a shelf for my 20-lb. vest. However, I do have Mindy Milrea's Workout! DVD, which is a very tough HiiT workout, and I enjoy using the Bosu on that.

Lately though, I've come to think of the Bosu as a stability ball cut in half, at least for upper body, and really so many times you could just use a stability ball. For instance, for pushups, triceps dips -- a stability ball is more challenging.

For lower body, it's really versatile though, unless you're one of those people who can stand on a stability ball to do curls and squats, and if you are, good for you! However, for the rest of us, it's a good tool to challenge your core stabilizing muscles.

Down side is, there are so few videos that utilize it.

I love the Bosu!

I've had mine for about 2 months now and I LOVE it! I have found that it has strengthened my knees, legs, and improved my balance in ways traditional balance training has not. I agree that high impact work is difficult, but doable. It really fires the muscles up when you can get the strength bursts for the impact. I think for me, it's been the best fitness buy in recent months. Having knee and hip issues the Bosu has helped me in ways even Physical Therapy wasn't able to.

Thanks for the input. I saw on ebay that there is a 3d bosu balance trainer. Is there a difference between a 3d and a regular bosu? Is there any size difference between them?
I'm tempted to buy it, but I guess I still don't understand the difference kind of bosu. Is there one kind better than the other?

Thanks again.

Hi Jera,
Just a follow up to you original & new questions; mrsprincess07, what kind of routine did you use with yours, does it come with a DVD? bumping for ja Jera!

Linda

Depending on what you're intended goal is from using it, you may want to consider one or two Xerdiscs instead. They are smaller and give you more flexibility but still offer the stability challenges of the bosu. Again, it depends on your objectives.

I'm interested in using it instead of step ( Seasun Zieger workout) where you can use a step or a bosu for the workout. So i guess you step up and down on it. Does it mean I have to purchase the big one or the 3d will do. I still don't understand what's the difference in between them.
Thanks,
Jera

Jera,
I'm not sure what "3d" means. However, in the catalog I'm looking at, there are 4 choices: Bosu Pro, Bosu Balance Trainer, Bosu Home, and Bosu Sport. The first 2 are really for training facilities where they will get constant use. The Sport is for travel. I would say you probably want to get the Bosu Home version, which in this catalog runs $99.95 The exception might be that if you are a big gal, then you might want one of the more heavy duty ones.

I hope this was helpful to you.

Jane :)

I use Tracey Staehle's Part Series and that DVD alone will have you feeling it. I also take exercises I learned in Physical Therapy using a Balance disc/trainer and use my Bosu instead. I also purchased a Bosu Exercise book off amazon.

I bought mine directly from the Bosu website for $99 with Free Shipping. It came with 4 DVDs. Chalene Johnson leads one that is a pilates-inspired workout. The DVD quality is poor which is why I personally don't use those.

They make a smaller sized one for around $60 that probably is almost half the size of a traditional Bosu; it's much smaller!

what's the original size called? Is it the home version? Is the smaller one alright to use as well?
Thanks
Jera

Hi Jera, good question.

Thanks mrsprincess07, already looking at the Tracy Staehle video.. I think there's a medicine ball in my future.

Jera, from what a read so far, & the one show I saw on Fit TV, I think it may be good to look at the fullsize model, if that suits your needs, happy hunting!

Linda

thanks everyone for the the response.

Mrsprincess07, do you mind if I ask which website you got your bosu from? I was also reading what Linda had recommended about the full size bosu. Will that be pro version bosu, bosu balance trainer or the home version one?

Thanks again and I will keep hunting for one :)

Jera

Hi again Mrsprincess07,
I found the website that you mentioned (bosu.com). Did you like the size of the bosu you got? If so, I might order it from them. I did found one on craigslist and the guy was going to sell it to me for $50 plus shipping. I'm just worried what happens if it does not work well. I won't be able to an exchange or get a refund. At least in the bosu website, if that happens, I'll be able to exchange for a new one. Any thoughts?

Jera

I have absolutely nothing to contribute to the original topic...just learning about Bosu......but LOL @ Johnny Carson. Linda, that's too funny! My favorite part of his show......;)

Hi Jera,

BTW, that show with David Weck, is on this week, tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. EST & 5:00 p.m. didn't know he invented the Bosu, I think I read that the pro version is for clubs that get loads of use, the home standard version is probably what you want, I guess it depends on what you want to do, that 3D thing is kinda like a rebounder with the bar. I used the rebounder during that TV workout once, recorded the show, have to try it again. Know what you mean when buying from site you can return if something's not right, you want it to last. Bosu.com, is where you could get the description.

Pinny150 (Iris?) Karnac, what a riot, I especially liked it when he held the envelope to his head & said "I got nothin" still cracks me up.

Linda

I have the full size BOSU and bought it from amazon.com, free s/h.

I wanted full size because it is more versatile for doing cardio and full squats with both feet. I have used BOSU a lot for physiotherapy and always full size, whether for doing side planks with hip dips and feet resting on BOSU or side lunges on and off BOSU, squats on the BOSU, etc.

Home versions always seem to be a compromise that never quite lives up to what I need it for. If you are planning to use it in combo with any of the DVDs out there made for it, get the full size BOSU. Full size allows you to be supine upon it for bridge work, core work, etc.

Hi Jera --

I think you would benefit from phoning Bosu at 1-800-321-9236 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m eastern standard time, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). That way you'll be sure to get your questions answered accurately.

Jane

Hi Jane, Linda, and Clare
Thanks so much for your help. I did call the number that Jane gave me and now I understand what's the difference. I will go ahead and order the home version one. That's the one the lady recommended to me. I can't wait for it to come and try it.
Jera
