Hello,
I have been a runner for many years and would like to add more variety to my exercise routine. I was wondering how challenging Bootcamp is to someone with cardiovascular endurance? Is there something out there that would be better? Also, I do not have the 8 pound medicine ball, would a dumbell work instead?
Thanks!

Hello, I think bootcamp is very challenging. I think its very worth your money to get-but Im also partial to the Imax videos-mostly Imax 3. Just my opinion!! Enjoy!

Sorry I did not explain-I think bootcamp would be very challenging for a runner and yes you could use a dumbell in place of the ball-it would be a very good addition to your routine. I am partial to the Imax videos. Take a look at the clips and decide maybe you could get them both???!!!

Thanks, I was hoping to get a quick response. I did consider IMAX 3, but I was thinking the step routine might be complicated because I'm uncoordinated.

Hi again-yes the step routine is a bit complicated and not well cued in my opinion- it took me a while to get it but once I did it became my very favorite workout. I did hate it when I first got it because she cues as she is doing the move. But Bootcamp is great and you are sure to enjoy it!!

Hi,

It is definitely challenging for a runner and/or anyone with advanced cardio endurance. I have been a runner for about 2 years and was gasping and panting the first time I did Bootcamp. After doing it once a week for about 4 weeks, I was able to get through it without feeling like I was going to pass out. It is still getting my heart rate way up there, though!

Great! Do you feel that it's improving your running? What is your workout schedule? Now that I'm getting older I am understanding the fact that cross training is important. I love exercise and am so glad that I've found this forum.
Thank you,
Gloria :)

Hi Gloria,

It does improve my running! I just "discovered" Cathe about 9 months ago. Prior to that, I was alternating running with advanced Tae Bo and The Firm.

Pre-Cathe, workout program looked something like this:

Monday - OFF
Tuesday - Run 6 miles, do circuits of pushups, pullups, and core
Wednesday - 60 minutes of Tae Bo
Thursday - Run 6 miles, do circuits of pushups, pullups, and core
Friday - 60 minutes of Tae Bo
Saturday - Run 6 miles, do weight workout for about 30 minutes
Sunday - 60 minutes of The Firm (Supercardio)

(I was running about 9 minute miles)

I am not running as much anymore (about once or twice a week). Here is my current routine (I have been a bit off the wagon for about 2 months, but this is what I normally and am getting back on track with):

Monday - OFF
Tuesday - Cathe Kickboxing workout (either Cardio Kicks or Kick, Punch, Crunch - OR Run 6 miles
Wednesday - Cathe Muscle Endurance
Thursday - 60 minutes of Tae Bo
Friday - Cathe Bootcamp
Saturday - Cathe Kickboxing workout (either Cardio Kicks or Kick, Punch, Crunch) - OR - Cathe or Mindy M. step workout
Sunday - Run about 6 miles

The things is...my running (and all my other OLD workouts) have become so much easier since I discovered Cathe. Honestly, when I do Tae Bo now, I barely break a sweat until I am about 40 minutes into it. I can remember when I couldn't get through the video without feeling like I was going to die! And same with running...true, I am running less, but it is so effortless now. I am running about 8 minute miles and barely feel worked at all until I have run about 3 miles. It's crazy! I really think this is because of Cathe's Boot camp...it was very challenging at first and I believe it has kicked my cardio endurance up a notch. It's the circuits...they are great! But it makes everything else feel too easy.

Well, good luck and let me know when you try it! I will be interested to know how it works for you.

Dianna,
I love the way your workout schedule looks. I will be buying bootcamp. I bet with all the variety in your exercise you rarely get injured. That is my goal. I love running, but 3 injuries in a years time have taught me a valuable lesson. Thanks for your input!
