I am back for more book advice.

I am trying to collect as many deries as possible before I head back to Michigan, we do not have many used book stores where I am at and there are a ton here in Florida.

So let me tell you what I am collecting and maybe you can offer more authors or series.

I started with Stephanie Plum series, I have Weekend warriors or sisterhood series by Fern Michaels.

Sue Grafton Alphabet series, James Patterson Womens Murder Club.

Nora Roberts JD Robb Series, Patricia Cornwell Scarpetta series, John Sandford, Michael Connolly, Lisa Gardner, Linda Fairstein, Diane Mott Davidson, Elmore Leonard, Beverly Barton, Allison Brennan and John Lescroat.

I am trying, Carl Hiaason and Tom Dorsey.

I have some by Jodi Picoult.

I have also started the Maximum Ride series and looking for the Twilight series.

So can you offer any other good series of books.

I am willing to look into any and all recommendations you offer I tend to not be interested in Romance unless its a good clean read like the notebook.

Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Trilogy. They are on the dark/violent side, witches, magic, social/political intrigue. and may not be your cup of tea, though. There are also a couple follow up books, but the original trilogy is the best. My favorite books ever, along with the original L Frank Baum Oz books - which are even good adult reading.

I just started reading the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R R Martin. Came recommended by DH. I am just about done with the 1st one, and I believe there are 6, with a 7th in the works. Fantasy, knights, ladies, kings, political intrigue. Loving it so far.

And the Kushiel Series by Jacqueline Carey. There are 2 stand alone trilogies, but it helps to read the 1st one 1st. Kings, queens, politics, social castes, murder, betrayel, magic, etc. The main female character is a "lady of the evening" by profession, so there is that element, but nothing over the top/raunchy/porn like. And there is an underlying love story. The 1st set was better than the 2nd, but they were all good. I believe there's a new one of those coming out this summer as well.

Jonathan Kellerman. His Alex Delaware series. But his other books usually involve characters created in his alex delaware series.

ETA: His series takes up a little more than one shelf on my bookshelf....23 books for Alex Delaware i believe. 3 or 4 that are not.
 
If you are looking for well-written police-procedural style series that make you really think then you need to try:

Karin Slaughter's Grant County series - start with Blindsighted. It's strong stuff so if you're squeamish, don't touch it.

Val McDermid... anything by Val. She's a fantastic author.

Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus series.

Kathy Reichs' Temperence Brennan series. Deja Dead is the first of these.
 
I just finished a series by Debbie Macomber called the cedar grove series(if you go to her website there is a list of the books) Its basicly about the lives of people in a small town,I liked it!

Im also reading the twilight series,im on the first book now:eek:

You might try the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. It comes across as historical romance, and I'm not a fan either, but it's actually very good -- quite addictive to be honest.

I just finished Deborah Crombie's series with Duncan Kincaid and Gemma Jones. These are really good mysteries.

I also love Elizabeth George's mysteries with Inspector Lynley and Barbara Havers.

If you haven't read P.D. James and her detective Adam Dalgliesh, these are classics.

A second vote for Sara Paretzky and V.I. Warshawski, Jonathan Kellerman and Alex Delaware.

If I may ask, where in Florida are you staying? I am a huge fan of used book stores. I am in Sarasota County and we have a couple of great options here. If you are close by let me know and I will give you directions.

Wow you guys are amazing! I have wrote them all down and my kids are back in school Monday so I will be researching and collecting.

Debbie: Thank you I am in Clearwater I do not believe I am too far from Sarasota.

I have 2 fleamarkets that I hit on Weekends and I have 3 main stores I hit all week long.
They actually laugh when I come in because I have my notebook filled with what I have and what I need.

I moved down here last July and as of right now our work is winding down and we have to head back to Michigan at the end of school year. I must confess I am able to go back to work this fall again after 10 years of being home so all will be in school full-time and I am trying to find a way to stay but unfortunately with no work background, no college and the poor economy I don't think its looking to good for me I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT HERE!

Anyhow if you know of some big used book stores in your area I would be willing to get there on the weekends. My gals here sell their books for about $3 and my hardcovers I can get between $2-$6 I always go for the paperbacks first. The other thing that shocked me and was awesome if you bring in a trade they will give you all your books for half price what a fabulous deal.

I would add to the list books by Elizabeth George. Her Inspector Lynley series is very good. Also books by Peter Robinson I would recommend. Recently I have added Robert Crais to my person list of favorites. Good luck in your search for great books!

Thanks carrie and sharon for adding to my long list. I must confess this is awesome. I stopped into Borders today to look at some of these writers and make my lists, my internet is sooooo slow, boy I can't wait to start collecting.

Did any of you read the Detective Agency Series books set in Africa? They sound funny and good too. I am going to see if my daughter wrote the right name down I have Nancy Martin.

Oh yes and is the Alex Cross by James Patterson too? I know I have seen the character name I will ck it out too.

I just started my first book of John Sandford and I read for 2 hrs staright while at the pool it is soooo good I didn't want to put it down.

I think there is a new TV series based on this. Isn't it called the No 1 Women's Detective Agency (or something like that????). I think it's on one of the cable networks.

Just another vote for the Outlander and Twilight series. Read Twilight first. SO ADDICTIVE!

Have you tried the public libraries in Clearwater? The ones in Sarasota and Manatee have used book stores right inside. I have found some amazing deals on all sorts of books.

If you are going to travel to the Sarasota area we have two Goodwill Book Stores right off of I-75. They are really nice bookstores - better and cleaner than most used book stores I have visited. The hardcover novels are $2.99 each. I am currently working on completing my collection of James Patterson, Jonathan Kellerman, John Sanford, John Saul, Stephen King and Tess Gerritsen. I have a few of the older Dean Koontz yet to find and also F.Paul Wilson.

It is probably a good 50-55 minutes drive to the first store and it is literally a mile off the I-75/SR 70 exit. The second store is about another 10 minutes south on the interstate.
