Bodymax question

Just received bodymax video....it is about 1-1/2 hours long. I really don't have that much time in the morning before work so does anyone have any suggestions on how to break this up??

1. Could I do half (upper body)in the morning and other half (lower body)in the evening?? Will this be as effective?

2. Can I do this video as my total body workout every other day or will that be too much? Should I still do cardio on other days?

Please help me....I am totally new to strenght training and I need all the advice I can get...

Let me say that I am looking to build lean muscles and to scuplt the body.... I don't have alot of weight to lose but do have some excess baggage that is not at all toned. Doctor has told me to alleviate the back pain I need to build my abs and I have a problem with my knees that he says can improve as I improve the muscles that support the knee. I am so ready to improve my quality of life...no more excuses!!

Thanks for your help!

Let me just say that when I started this video 3 years ago, I found it a challenge to do all of it.And when I felt like I wanted a challenge I started doing all of it.
When I first got the video I use to do the aerobics part of it one day and then the upper body the next.Or I would do just the step and leave out the step+weights, and do the upper body.It is all up to you, whatever you are in the mood for that day.
But now I do the whole thing.I like that fact that I can get a total body work out in 90 min.Usually if I do weights and cardio it would take me 2 hours.
It all depends on your fitness level now,you should be able to decide for yourself what you are comfortable doing.I do cardio atleast 6 days a week, somedays twice a day.And I do weights about 5 days a week, when I am doing tank top rotations. And I think you will still benefit from breaking it up....best of luck,
Lori

What other videos do you have? I used this video like this during a strength rotation:
Sat. Body Max step only and PS C/S/T
Sun. CTX Kickbox and PS B/B/A
Mon. PS S/L&A
Tue. Cardio (Usually Step Jam)
Wed. Body Max step only & Body Max upper body work
Thu. Body Max circuits & the step and kickbox circuits from CTX Power Circuit (if I felt up to it)

Then when I did an endurance rotaton, I did:
Sat. BodyMax (the whole thing)
Sun. Cardio (step)
Mon. Power Hour
Tue. Cardio (hi/lo)
Wed. Power Hour
Thu. Cardio (step or kickbox)
Have fun and work up to this tape. I owned it a long time before I attempted it as a whole!

oh no.......This is the first Cathe tape I have....Did I mess up by getting this one first?? I don't have her other tapes to rotate at this point...I see that is a definite plus...I was trying to get something that would cover cardio/strenght in one tape to keep it simple for me....I wasn't sure about all the other tapes since this is all new for me. I was afraid I would not be able to keep up with what body part I had worked out on what day...Beleive me, with my hectic schedule I can't seem to keep up with anything! I have forgotten some pretty important dates here lately so I am trying to get re-focused & didn't want to add to my caos...I think that if I can get back into exercising regulary this will help to kick me back to a more normal life... I will try ot get the other tapes but in the meantime do you have any suggestions with using just this tape??

Thanks so much!

Nat

Nat- no stress- this is an excellent first tape to get. Try breaking it into 3 parts and do each one each day, and rest on the 4th day.

Knee problems and other joint problems often occur as a result of moving the same way a lot, and not in another way. Knowing that, it is a good idea to branch out with your exercise as much as possible. This may mean not only getting other Cathe tapes (she really knows how to cross train!) but also to go out and walk, ride a bike, do in line skating or running/jogging or anything else.

Don't try and do it all at once, just ease into it and enjoy it! Hope to hear your success stories on this board!

Thank you so much! You all have been great in sharing this knowledge with me....I will ease into it and go at a safe pace.

Have a Blessed day!

One more thing Connie......are you referring to the CTX series when you mention cross training? Does this series include good weight training or is this more weight loss??

Thanks!

Is it just me, or does the tempo in BodyMax seems to be extremely frenzied?? I know it is endurance cardio, but with my little itty-bitty short legs I am finding it very hard to keep the 8" step height and keep up. Even at 6" it seems like I have to be moving faster than Cathe to move my little legs. I am 5'0 tall, but somehow I got cursed with even shorter legs than those that are normally found on a 5'0 person. Does anyone else find the pace to be quicker than Cathe's other vids???

Janice

Natalie-

CTX is great, and I recommend it strongly, but I was referring to cross training in general. So I meant that as long as you only have one Cathe tape, avoid the temptation to do it over and over to the exclusion of all else.

(If you have CTX, it does a lot of the planning work for you. That's another thing I love about Cathe's workouts.)

So, do some other cardio or weights on your own on the days in between Bodymax.

Janice- how do you do Bodymax with an 8" step at 5'0"? :-wow I am 5'4 and a half inches and those special lunges- you know the ones I mean- well I can hardly do them at 6". I only recently raised my step to 8" with Rhythmic Step but I'm not planning on raising it for BMax, at least not anytime soon. You go girl! :-jumpy

Connie...

If I am doing any lunging with weights off the step I lower my step height to accomadate the form thing when Cathe says not to let your buttocks drop below 90 degrees. They always do to some extent but I would be WAY off if I did not lower the step for those. But for the quick lungy things...the ones where it goes really fast and she is clapping her hands and stuff I try to stay at 8", but like I said, it feels very clumsy, like I am flailing around. I like to keep the step at 8" for the challenge, but sometimes I find it isn't workable with my short legs. Oh well, back to 6" I go.....

I was just thinking about the cardio portion. It's been a while since I did Bodymax and I forgot about that part where you use weights to lunge off the step.

I recently raised mine to 8" for Rhythmic Step and it was fine. Did RStep today on only 6" though, because after doing Leaner Legs yesterday, well... I couldn't face 8". But I'm fine! :-cool
