body

Hi Cathe,

You have not heard from me in a while because I had surgury on my head, just had a left frontal brain surgury, meningioma. Anyway, I feel that I can't exercise correctly. I have not exercised in about a year. I feel as if I don't have any balance on the right side of my body. I am not sure what to do. I have gone to doc's - now I am going to some more. Besides my brain being messed up, my right side is too. I even notice it in my work. I am not sure what to do. If you or anyone has any recommendations, I would love to hear them. I am sick of all of this, It happened in Jan. of this year, it has almost been a year. I just purchased all your new cd's and I can't wait to do them if I can. Sorry if I am soooo sad, but I am not sure what else to be!!!;(

Hi leanerlisa,

I would definitely speak with your doctor if you're not feeling balanced. Maybe do some light walking and/or stretching exercises to ease yourself back in?

Please try not to be sad, you had a serious operation! You're doing a great thing trying to get back into exercise. Be good to yourself!

Good luck,
Michelle:)

I agree! It sounds like you have been through quite an experience and after that, you might very well need to ease back in very slowly. I would consult the docs on this one b/c they will want to make sure that you start slowly and that you progress ever slower, esp. with the balance issue that you describe. Maybe you just need to take off for a little while longer and that will resolve itself, but your docs will know best :)

Thank you both for emailing me on this, you are both right - I guess I have to go back into it slower. I will talk to my doc, but I have to find a new one first, this one that I have is not doing much. I have an appt. with one a little further away, which is good for my area. Thanks again!!

Lisa~
I would like to congratulate you for event thinking of exercising! You are on the right track. With guidance from your specialist, try to make a gradual plan to get back to exercising. Perhaps you could ask about walking and work up from there.

You are going to progress; just take it one step at a time. We'll be here for you to share your progress and give you encouragement. This reminds me of someone's signature... fitness is a journery... Your are just at a different part of the journery for now.

Bless you!

Since you had left frontal brain surgery, it's no suprise that your balance is off on the right side, since the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body. Hopefully your doctor will hook you up with either a physical or occupational therapist who will help you gain control, or teach you how to compensate for this imbalance.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

I know someone who had a similar surgery several years ago and she was seeing a physical therapist several weeks after her surgery several times a week in the beginning and then the frequency of her appointments tapered off. She is no longer seeing one but she seems fine physically now. Did you just have the surgery or did you have it a while ago.I am wondering why you haven't exercised in a year. Is it because of the surgery or were you ill and having some imbalance and weakness before the surgery. The woman I know had surgery almost immediately after her diagnosis but was having no symptoms except headaches before she was diagnosed and subsequently said the headaches weren't related but she was lucky she had them as this is what prompted the CAT scan. Anyway, I am sure a physical therapist could only help and am surprised that the doctor doesn't have you seeing one. Good luck.
