Body Max-lunge substitutions?

Hi, Cathe!

I'm working on my endurance and would love to add Body Max to my rotation. My physical therapist has banned lunges (squats are OK--it's just a restriction on lifting weight with the hip flexor stretched) so I'm trying to figure out some substitutions. So far I have:

ball squats against the wall
step-ups on 13" step

I also have ankle weights. My question is this: what other leg exercises would you suggest? I'm assuming that sitting down in the midst of those intervals (i.e. to do leg extensions with the ankle weights) would not be such a good idea.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Gretchen! To keep the flow of the workout, you want to keep the substitutions simple. I believe that there are five cycles that use either squats or lunges for leg work during Bodymax. So use the substitutions you have mentioned where the lunges are performed. Have Fun!

Thanks, Cathe!

Thanks, Cathe! I like the suggestion to keep it simple--a good thing to keep in mind in the midst of that killer workout!

I'm looking forward to doing Body Max and getting that endurance boosted for triathlon season. I'm hoping to save the bonk for sometime during the run, instead of the latter part of the bike. If Body Max can't do it, nothing can! ;-)

Another suggestion

How about plié squats? They work more of the inner thigh. You might also vary the squats by trying different counts, à la "Power Hour" (my current favorite). As Cathe and the gang do a one-up/one-down count, you could do two-up/two-down, three-down/one-up, one-down/three-up, two-down/hold-two/four-up, four-up/four-down count. That's lot's of variety right there!
