Body for Life/Eating for Life

Cathlete
Hi,

I just picked up Eating for Life by Bill Phillips. Has anyone here done it and what kind of success have you had. I have yet to get Body for Life.

Any thoughts welcome. Can you do the diet and keep the workouts like Cathe and have results. Looking to get down to 125 from 135. I tried South Beach and had about a four lb loss. Seems like too much protein. Plus I have IBS starting. Ya know - another wonderful thing that happens after the age of 40!

Thanks,

Dawn

HI Dawn,
I did BFL a couple of times but never did complete a challenge.I need to decide what I am going to do (if anything) and stick with it.Everytime I think about doing something I realize that I am going away in a few weeks OR something else is comming up.Then I put it off.
The first time I did BFL I saw results in no time.I can remember my to tight jeans now, feeling loose and wondering if I should even be wearing them.I think I was 7 lbs lighter then. The reason I didn't stick with it was b/c of my cheat days.I am an all or nothing type of girl and when I use to have a cheat day I found it really hard to get back on track.
It is an awesome program b/c it makes sense. You don't kill yourself with working out for hours on end, you don't cut carbs or any other major food group and you know that at the end of the week, whatever you were craving, you can have.
If you are going to do the program you need to get the BFL book. Its full of motivation and info.
Good luck,
Lori

SOrry I forgot about the workouts. I found it best when I did the actual run thats is the book. The first time I tried the program the pryamid system was just being produced so I couldn't wait for that to be released. The second time I tried it I did the pyramid system and Interval videos b/c I didn't own a treadmill at the time and I wasn't running outside in the middle of winter, early in the morningx( Just try and do something that is as close to what the book calls for.

I did the BFL excercise program ( witout the EAS supplements) about 4 years ago and was in the best shape ever. Cathe's Pyramid workout would be perfect for this, along with the cardio days. I was so into it that I overtrained, ( only took off the 7th day for monthts), and got a back injury. After surgery etc, my motavation had gone and I gained back the 20 lbs of fat I had lost. I am trying to do it again, but the eating part is killing me. No willpower! Good luck, sounds like you will do well

I love it! I am not following it so strictly, with entering the Challenge etc., but I do follow the eating and the exercising, but even that part is not to the "T". I will do PLB and PUB on those days, and Timesaver step on the aerobic days. I guess where I modify is in the exercise. I don't do exactly what the book says, I do what I like, and to me that is the point of working out. To like it and feel good about it.

My husband on the other hand is following the exercise straight out of the book. He won't do videos, and I can't work out without them.

We both love the food, and feel really good. Not a lot of progress yet, only beginning week 4, but in three weeks we have lost 6 pounds. At two a week for healthy loss, and any muscle gains to compensate, I think we are seeing good results. I know my clothes feel better.

One more thing....

My kids even love it! They are not following the exercise part and are not "dieting" but they love the food. I figure this is a long term healthy way of eating. Proper portion and smaller frequent meals is good. My kids think the food is great, and hopefully they will learn healthier eating as well.

I would suggest going by the book at least for the first 12 weeks to really see what kind of changes you can get from it. Otherwise, you really don't know how "BFL" works for you. I just finished a 12 week challenge (didn't enter officially) and had the following results:

Results are:

Weight: 123.5 119
Waist: 25.75 24
Hips: 35.75 33.75
Belly button: 26.75 25

My belly pouch just below the belly button is almost gone WOOHOO.
