OK, OK...I tried it...regular oatmeal instead of instant. Ugh! I put grated apple, cinnamon and honey in it and it still tastes like yuck. How do you all stand that stuff?

I've never gotten used to the taste, I put a bit of cinnamon in it and I tell myelf it's good for me. ;-)

I never noticed a difference in taste, just texture. And I love the chewy texture of regular and steel cut oats. It may take some getting used to, just as switching from refined white bread and pasta to the whole wheat variety takes some adjustment, but once you acquire the taste you won't want to go back. Trust me! And the benefits of a whole grain diet are so worth it. Just look at Cathe!

Well, did I convice you to stick with it?????????:7

Try actually making it with milk instead of water, much more like rice pudding than gruel. Even better is flavored soy milk. Make sure to add in fruit that tastes! Frozen berries or a banana are my fave and the cinnamon or ground flax seed are also great additions. One tsp. of brown sugar sprinkled over the top might help to ease the transition and then you can wean yourself off.

LOL!! I agree. It's awful. I even dumped a ton of sugar and it still tasted like crap. My family all dumped it down the sink and grabbed the Raisin Bran. I will stick to the Apple Crisp flavor. It's quick and easy to make too!:9 I can only eat so healthy. If the taste is awful then the food must go!!

Me, too. I think steel cut oats taste kind of nutty. Not bad at all!

I like it with maple syrup (real stuff, not the "maple flavored' crap in most grocery stores) and soymilk. I think it tastes better than instant. More flavorful.

I also mix mine with some honey flavored granola, which adds enough sweetness so that I don't have to pour teaspoons of sugar on it. Yummm!

I think part of the problem is that it was pretty old. I looked at the expiration date and it said it was best before August 2004. It had a kind of funky underlying flavor to it. Maybe I'll get another canister and try again the next time I go shopping. If I still hate it, what the heck? I'll make oatmeal cookies. I love those!

I was thinking that it would have been better with some raisins.

I love regular oatmeal. I put skim milk and a packet of splenda on mine. A lot of people can't stand oatmeal, so you are not alone. I think I like it because I grew up on it. I like anything "carb-y". The gruel texture doesn't bother me.

I cook my soy milk or skim in the microwave for about a minute then add the oatmeal and cook another 1 minute or 1 minute 20 sec depending on which microwave I use. I add maybe a little more milk if it's too dry & splenda & cinammon. It is delicious!!!!

What NOT to do is mix it with protein powder. I couldn't swallow that!! And I am not a picky eater.

I love the regular oatmeal too...I make what I call a "powerhouse" breakfast and I've gotten my 14-year-old son to eat it every morning too...he says it gives him more energy! Anyway, I mix the oatmeal, vanilla soy milk, handful of frozen blueberries, a few frozen cherries, a couple of frozen strawberries and microwave until cooked (3 1/2 to 4 min.)...then I add a half of a banana and a handful of chopped walnuts (though not on my son's as he hates nuts, lol)...and also add in a couple of teaspoons of ground flax...I'm telling you, this is delicious AND stays with you for quite a while! :)

I don't like regular oatmeal if I cook it slowly like the cannister says, but if I just boil water and pour it over the top as if it were instant oatmeal and eat it right away, I don't mind it. I think it's more of a texture thing.

Really? I absolutely love it. I love the chewy grainy texture and the taste, especially when made with skim milk, a dash of nutmeg and cinnamon. It's the highlight of my morning. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Editing to say I use one half cup of Quaker old-fashioned oats with one cup of skim milk, and put it in the microwave for 2 mins. 50 secs. Then I take it out and add nutmeg and cinnamon, stir it, and let it sit on the counter for a few minutes to finish cooking.

You should definitely give it another try with a new, fresh box. It's yummmmy!
