Black Friday

The last few years I managed to avoid going out in the crowds. But this year there are some deals I don't think I can pass up. What about you? Are you going shopping on Black Friday?

I second MidgetDogg - no way in hell. No deal is worth that in my eyes. One of the main reasons I dread the holidays is because of the frantic crowds - yuck!

I never shop on BF either. I have to say though, I hate to shop to begin with. My husband likes to shop, I don't. He thinks I am odd for being a woman who hates to shop. What really irks me about BF is that this time of the year is supposed to be about being kind and giving, and instead it becomes about consumiung and so many people out at the same time causes the pushing and shoving and line cutting and arguing in the parking lot. It kills the whole spirit for me.

This year I have become aggravated with the fact that retailers started pushing the holiday shopping even before Thanksgiving, even before Halloween in some stores. The holiday is not what it was supposed to be about anymore. I dunno.

Absolutely, wholeheartedly agree with you Kristin!!!! It kills the spirit for me too. My Christmas spirit comes in various ways - hanging ornaments on the tree with the family while drinking eggnog, sipping coffee next to my tree first thing in the am when noone else is up, visiting/quality time with our families, driving around and looking at the Christmas lights, shopping for presents with my mom (we go on a week day to avoid the brunt of the crowds)

I really dread the holidays in so many ways, but there are sweet, quiet and poignant moments tossed in there that do make Christmas meaningful. You just have to cherish those (giving myself a pep talk here:confused:)

I know. I love the house decorating and the music. I love getting the family together. That is the good part about the holiday. I guess I just get upset that retailers seem to be shoving it down our throats this year, encouraging people to blow money that they might not really have to blow, all for the almighty dollar. the good news is we don't have to buy into it, and we do not seem to be either ;):D

For the past three years, I have purposly avoided any stores on Black Friday (after the crowds of annoying people at a local mall one Black Friday got me thinking homicidal thoughts;)), but my local craft store is having a sale that includes 50% off all beads, and I find that very hard to resist!

ITA!
I was in a store today that was playing Christmas music!
I always thought Thanksgiving was a bit early to decorate for Christmas, but it seems to happen earlier and earlier nowdays. One of my neighbors has had Christmas decorations up since just after Halloween!

You couldn't pay me to go shopping on Black Friday.

It's Christmas Tree day, so we'll be at the tree farm getting our tree. They're normally busy, but it's so spread out that you don't notice. I finished my Christmas shopping yesterday - pointed and clicked on Amazon for a while, and I'm done. I still need to get stocking stuffers for DH, but that can wait.

The one store that is quiet on Black Friday is the grocery store. If you need groceries, it's a great day to go.

We don't even exchange gifts at Christmas, so why in the world would I subject myself to Black Friday? I can honestly say I've never, ever been in a store on the day after Thanksgiving! :D

I wouldn't go near any stores on Black Friday! Besides, the last few years I've noticed that most stores will have just as good deals, or better, a little closer to Christmas...and there's always online shopping!:D

I've only gone out on one Black Friday and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a blast. The strange thing is, I'm not a shopper, and I'm not a people person. I went alone and I wasn't looking for anything specific but I loved it! I was in line at 4am. It was so much fun... I've toyed with the idea of going out again this year, none of the items on my list will be on sale, or at least I don't expect them to be but I may go just for the fun.

Good luck on getting some deals......

It depends on the deals and what's on my shopping list. I usually do some very limited, early bird Black Friday shopping. As in, get in and get out, home by 8 am. While I'm not one for crowds, some bargains are too good to pass up. I approach it as a little bit of a sport and just have fun with it. If the store doesn't have the item, no big deal. If the crowd looks a bit rabid, I turn the other way.

Probably 95% of my shopping is done online, anyway. I finish all of it by the end of the first week of December, and then I'm free to enjoy the Christmas season.

Yeah! Now I don't feel so bad for posting that YES, for the first time in my life, I plan on shopping on Black Friday. There are some deals that I can't pass up on gifts for my family. I hope that my experience is as good as the one quoted above!
