BFL TGIF 1/18

Melissa -

I got my GF grill for Christmas and have used it many times. I made turkey burgers today and they were done in 4 minutes. You can;t beat that! It's great for me since I'm at home during the day and can whip some chicken, fish or turkey burgers up real quick and easy. The ONLY thing I would recommend is to get one that has removable grates so it is easier to clean. My DH thought mine were removable.

I finally made the mini quiches today. I added red bell pepper as well and they were quite delicious. I ate 3 of them. Hope I didn't go over my calories for that meal.

Michelle & Kathy-I second the vote for The Time Traveller's Wife! GOOD BOOK!

Michelle-any chance you keep a running list of all the books you've read? LOL Seriously, though, it seems we have the same taste and I'd love to pick your brain. Yesterday, I just picked up Peony In Love by Lisa See. My book club had read Snow Flower & The Secret Fan a while back, and this is her next book (not a series, though, so you can read them in whichever order). I picked up 3 books yesterday so I'd be set for this 3-day weekend! LOL

OK, ladies. I emailed the Leukemia Society, asking about marathon events and info. Here is my list she gave me:
***this summer, June, Alaska and San Diego;
***fall season, Nike Women's Marathon (San Fran), Philadelphia Distance Run, Dublin Ireland Marathon and possibly Steamtown marathon (I've wanted to do this local "DOWNHILL" marathon for a while now).

I'm going to be 'shopping around' for an event. They recruit for events all year long, and I have to take kids and school into consideration.

ANYWAY.........

Hey Kathy. I've been meaning to ask you if you'd consider running the Philly Distance Run (half) with me this September??? I'm not sure how that fits into your CRAZY run/tri/everything-else schedule! LOL

Gayle

Hi Belinda - I'm going to make another quiche tonight...I'm just asking for trouble, aren't I? I'm going to try it in a pie plate, so I'll let you know tomorrow how it came out! And if there is any left!!!!

Carolyn - thanks for the tip on the GF grill. I'm going to shop around for one this weekend. Oh, and thanks for posting the Chunky White Bean Soup on the 12-week thread. Sounds yummy!!

So, I've decided that every weekend I'm going to make a quiche, a soup and a meal to last me the week. It makes it so much easier to just grab 2 bags out of the freezer in the morning before I leave for work. By the time I'm ready to eat them, they are almost defrosted.

Melissa-I AGREE on the food prep for the week. I laugh, sometimes, because at the beginning of the week, my fridge is SO STOCKED that I almost feel 'pressured' to make sure NONE of it gets wasted! lol But as the week wears on, the fridge gets less crowded! LOL

Be sure to let us know how it works in a pie dish! I have another recipe for a quiche that calls for a large sweet onion, a red onion, and yellow and green squash. It's YUMMY!

Hi again!
I'm running out the door here from work real quick but wanted to respond to some of the posts I've just read. Sorry if I don't attach a name to them, you all know how bad I am with names, lol.

I have a small George Forman Grill and use it alot. I got the smaller one without the removable plates too....and they're a pain in the neck to clean sometimes but it is quick! A tip someone gave me for cleaning it was to stick a couple of damp paper towels in it as it's cooling down and then wipe when it's cool. HTH.

I've never tried the all blast premix on Imax2, now I gotta! I think it was Melissa's daughter that's my my heart if she love IHOP, lol. That place is the BOMB for breakfast. :9

I'm definitely heading up to Borders this weekend to pick up that book. I'd also love to hear more recommendations on good books. I just started back reading again after a few years of what I thought was a lack of concentration (I couldn't keep focused). I went to the eye doctor this year and I needed bifocals! DOH! What a huge difference it's made in my life, it's given me back my joy of reading. ;-)

Gayle - Oooo-oooo, pick the Nike Marathon in SF! I love SF, we've been there a couple of times and it's one of the most beautiful cities I've visited. I hear it's quite a hilly marathon, though! I'd love to run the Philadelphia Distance Run with you this year. I ran it in 2007 and it was HUGE! There were over 11,000 people who ran it! My best half in 2005 was 2:05 and I ran my best half this year (post injury) in 2:20 so I'll try to pick it up a bit before then, lol. I also ran the Atlantic City half marathon and it was quite a nice run....half boardwalk and half pavement. :)

Gotta run,
Kathy

Hello again,

Just checking back after work. As always my accountant can't say enough about my being organized. Not too many questions because I have everything so put together for him.

Michele: Great job on your lower body workout. Which did you end up doing?

Melissa: Have fun with Imax 2 blast pre later tonight.:)

Jennifer: Sorry to hear about your dd.x( Ouch that hurts! Hope she is ok.

Kathy: Great upper workout today!}(

I really like those quiches too!:9 They make for a quick breakfast on the run. Does anyone have anything else with them?

I have my chicken fiesta all ready for dinner tonight. I haven't tried this one yet...will have to let you know how I like it.

Have a great night everyone. :7 Heidi

OH! Kathy! Would you seriously consider running PDR with me??? I'd LOVE to run WITH somebody for a change. And I'm not concerned about my time/speed on ALL my races! LOL As for SF, the Fall is hard for me, with Fall baseball for older DS, football for younger DS, and BOTH their BDays are in October. The BIGGER Issue with anything in the Fall is that most of the training is done during the SUMMER...when they're home from school. No biggie, it's just that I get very little alone time right NOW while they're in school and I can find little notches of time to do outdoor runs. But in the summer, when we're ALL home, it's tough and I can't afford a sitter!

ANYWAY...sorry to ramble. I've got some thinking to do. But I'm excited about the possibility of running PDR together. Let me know if there are any races (local) that YOU are doing and maybe I can make the trip to join you??? Like Atlantic City? Now I'll have to go google that event! LOL

Quick post...

Heidi - I usually have about 4 or 5 sweet potato fries with my quiches in the morning.

I have gotten to the point where I actually CRAVE sweet potatoes!!!

Heidi-I eat 1 slice of toasted ww (Wieght Watchers) bread with my quiche (I usually eat 3 of those).

Gayle

Hi Melissa:

Ohhh...might have to make those sometime. They must be in the EFL cookbook too...will have to check. Thanks for the recommendation.:D

I am having my snack...cottage cheese with apples. I heat the apples in the micro with cinnamon and then add the cottage cheese. Apples are too cold right now for me to eat as they are...;-)

Temps are dropping fast! It turned out to be a really nice day here. Really sunny. I ended up walking to my accountants office because it was so nice. :D

Have a great night..BBL heidi

It's been one of those days. I just got home from work a short time ago. We were supposed to be up at church for the evening, but the food's long gone by now. The kids want Steak 'n Shake for dinner. I'm not arguing. I think I at least deserve a bit of a chocolate shake right now. Maybe even a steakburger. Ooooo, I have no willpower. HELP!
