BFL (starting)Week 3 Check-in

I have seen alot of threads on Hussman at L&S. They all say to take what he says with a grain of salt. He has good info, but he has never shown a pic of himself.

I am still staying motivated, but my yucky time is coming and I want to eat. I had more carbs in my meals today, my stomach growled all day.

I think potatoes are ok. Sweet are the best, red are better, and white are the worst. There GI rating is the highest. I do eat alot of red potatoes.

Good Morning everyone!:) Well,I ended up with a good day yesterday.No cheating at all.I wonder...am I finally,totally back on track?:eek: I hope so.
LuvCardio-I mostly eat sweet potatoes but yesterday I had a white one.I eat high fibre breads.Sometimes I will have white rice but not very often.Last night I made a batch of whole wheat rice with veggies in it.I love oatmeal to.
That brings me to my next question...for you guys who have the success journals.Do you only give yourself the downward slant if you follow YOUR meal plan or as long as you follow THE meal plan.Sometimes I write down what I will eat tomorrow and then when tomorrow comes, I don't want it or I don't have the ingredients.But if I have a good day,MAN,I'm getting a star! I wondered this last night b/c I didn't go by my meal plan totally yesterday but I had a good day so I felt I deserved it.
Today is cardio.I am going to do Imax extreme today.I think one week I am going to do 2Imax 2 and then 1Imax extreme.Then the next week switch it around.I did what I said I was doing yesterday.I did the ball workout with a weight:p and then did squats in powerhour with a 30lb barbell:eek: The burn wasn't to bad but I had to go upstairs and get my daughters breakfast(in between powerhour and PLB) so my legs had a few minutes to rest.I'm not feeling sore yet but who knows what the day will bring.
Something that helped me stay on track yesterday, I was sleepy when I got up and I said to myself.How can I do this every morning and then not follow my meal plan? Like come'on???? The hard part should be getting out of my bed and then doing a high intensity workout , not being tempted my whatever treats are in my cupboard if I am not craving it.Thats what I kept telling myself yesterday.If I am getting up at 6 in the morning...then look out cause I'm do'in the rest of it right to}(
Something else I was saying to myself last week when the easter bunny was here and laid some eggs:+ Well, I wanted the easter egg of course and I was thinking, but what if I die tomorrow, what a shame I didn't get to eat that thing that I wanted.Finally by the end of the week I was thinking,OH GIVE IT UP!!! If your dead then you won't know will ya? Whats the big deal? I'm weird.Now I tell myself,it's not the last time this food will be around,if you want it on your cheat day you can have it.
I thought I would share that with everyone, just to let you know how crazy this member of your group is:D I should go start my day...hope everyone as a good one...

Hi Everyone,
Did my cardio this morning. I thought I was going to die at the highest point though. Couldn't wait for that minute to be over so I could go back down to a normal speed. I use a treadmill. I am up and working out by 4:45a, anyone else that early? Tomorrow is lower body.

I also tried the ab boot camp that everyone seems to talk about on the BFL site. Talk about a hard routine (at least it was for me). It says to use a decline bench and you will get a better workout. Yeah right, I was trying my hardest to finish. I could only make it through two rounds and not the three. Something to work up to.

To the person who was wondering about the U-Turn bars (sorry don't remember who asked). They are OK, but the Detour bars are my fave. U-Turn is more on the line of a Milky Way but not as soft as the Detour bar.

My eating so far has been good. I don't have cravings for anything but since I eat the Detour bars I think that really helps because it taste like you are cheating but your not.

Well, I am having a terrible day. So how is that for a greeting????? My daughter has been so many problems the past 3 years, the last year was the worse, I took her to her dad's last night. She has just been diagnosed with ADHD and depression. But, I tell you, she is the meanest thing, she will be 15 next month. She is foul, mean, so disrespectful. She told me the night before I took her to get her meds last week that I was the worst mother in the world, she hated me, and she was going to kill me in my sleep. Last night, I just lost it. She came home, in the door 2 seconds bitching about my son and his driving (he very nicely went to pick her up so she didn't have to walk), and she was told to be quiet, and I got the usual response of no, I am not going to. Well, she was told twice by me and once by my husband, and she just kept mouthing off, so I called her step-mother, and off we went. I told her I loved her when I dropped her off and she told me "You do not and don't ever fricking tell me that again." I love her so much, I have done everything to be the best to her, understand her, and it is just constant bashing. So, I am very sad today, ready to start my period which makes me feel worse, and want to smoke. I will try to be successful today.

Oh LoriSax, what are hard day! I can't imagine but you know what...my child is still only 7.Lord only knows what the future is going to have in store for me.I now it must hurt but it sounds like you did a good job of raising your son,so don't blame yourself.One of these days see will come around and she will be thankful that she had such a patient and loving mother.At that age they only see what they want to see.Only 10yrs ago I was 15 and I can rememeber it clearly.I wasn't a trouble maker but I knew everything,while my mother was getting on with crap.But I turned out alright(i guess;-) )
Rhonda-I told you that you wouldn't be able to eat all three pancakes....well,guess who ate all three pancakes today?I was starving! I put 2tbsp of cottage cheese in with my strawberries and applesauce.I just had my shake but I am still full.I think that if you start the day off with a full belly, you usually catch the hunger before it starts with the next meal.
I had a good workout.I did 3 parts of Imax extreme.When I get up in the morning I take 2 xendrine to wake me up.Then 90 min later I take two CLA with my breakfast.The last couple mornings my stomach as been burning.I don't think my stomach can handle it.I am going to stop taking the CLA in the morning.Sound like a good idea?

Oh LoriSax my cyber heart goes out to you :+ Sounds like your day hasn't started off too good! Go pump some iron and kick out those frustrations:) I too have a son (stepson) who has some issues and can totally relate to your situation. Someday she will know how much you loved her and will appreciate your "tough love" and involvement in her best interest. All you can do is your best, give her your love and try to make the best decisions for her. Sounds like you are doing all of the above. A lot of it is up to her. As our son's many many counselors have told us... it is 99% up to him. They have said it will take him "hitting rock bottom" before things probably turn around. He is flunking school this year and our hope is that will help him turn it around:( If you want to chat offline please e-mail me! My new e-mail is [email protected]. Today I made ShannyCake pancakes! Yummy! :9 I am not hungry like I was yesterday. Lastnight I filled up on salad and veggies. That helped. I hadn't had a salad in a couple days and I think that might have been part of my "hunger" problem - the lack of veggies. Today I am feeling fine. LoriHart... I agree with you. If you start off your day with a full belly the rest of the day is not so hungry!

Today is lower body for me. Haven't decided what I am going to do yet. Probably PLB. I think I am going to do some of ME or LL also? Will definitely do the stability ball portion of PLB. It always makes my booty burn :7 Hope I can get my legs to burn today. I am concerned because I am up to 50 lbs on the high end for squats etc. and I know I can't safely lift any more over my head than that! I need some new ideas on lower body to get the same results.

Rhonda - I sometimes get up at 4:45 if I have to go to work early. Usually I am up by 5:00 - 5:15. Now I will think of you knowing you are there with me :D Do you like your treadmill? What kind do you have? I am thinking of getting one to help me hit my high points on cardio! I have heard that running can be good for lower body particularly if you haven't done it much before. Sounds like you got a rockin' workout! Good for you!

I think I am having tuna, pita and cottage cheese for lunch. Probably some type of meat and potato for dinner:) Plus, I'll throw a salad in there somewhere and also eat some of my leftover ShannyCakes as a mid-afternoon meal with some cottage cheese! Sounds pretty good, huh!

I have a lift fitness treadmill. It was on the expensive side but I think it was worth it. Hubby has a long stride so we had to have something that he wouldn't walk off of and he wants to work out so that is also a plus. He does his workouts in the evening. He is also trying the BFL and when he does his weight workouts I will go downstairs with him and help him out. Anything to get him to workout and not complain : )

I have never ran in my life because I got shin splints really bad so I never tried it again. Now with the treadmill I am trying again. I am enjoying it - something different so I hope running will help lean out the bottom half, even though there is a lot of leaning out to be done.

HI all. Where has everyone been today? Maybe working for once... ha ha ??? I am finally going back to work tomorrow after being home for a few days due to the snow.

Today was lower body for me. I did Leaner Legs. Woo hoo... that one kicks some booty. I hadn't done it in a while. Forgot what a killer workout it is. I also did the stability ball of PLB, just inner, outer thigh though.

AFter Leaner Legs I did some of the arms from ME and then abs. IT was good as the entire workout only took a bit over an hour because I didn't do the lunges in LL due to my bad knees.

I felt that my arms needed an endurance workout. It felt good. I have thought about adding in an endurance workout for upper body at least once a week. What do you guys think? Maybe right before free day so you still end up with enough time in between? I just feel like I am not getting enough on my upper body! How about you guys? However, I want to be careful not to overtrain.

I ate good today too. I had Shanny Cakes for breakfast, tuna/pita for lunch, lean hamburger for snack, Myoplex and then BBQ chicken, corn, peas and salad for dinner! Yummy!!!! I am very satisfied. I think I was hungry yesterday due to the lack of veggies! Today I am good. Tomorrow I am going to eat some leftover chicken for lunch with a salad. Probably have eggs and an english muffin for breakfast and then oatmeal from the cafeteria at work for mid-morning meal:)

Hope ya' all are doing alright. This war thing is scary. My husband was stranded out of town due to the airport being closed here due to the storm. He is back tonight and I am soooo glad he is home safe. I know... I am a worry wart:)

Anyway, gotta get to bed early tonight! Talk at ya' later.
 
Here I am.I was working yesterday.I had a good eating day but before I went to bed I was SO hungry that I stuffed a couple of crackers in my mouth and a tiny piece of a protein bar.Other then that I didn't cheat.
I am having the best week ever!:) Sunday:I won a new bike.Yesterday:My huband went and bought me a new pair of running shoes for valentines day(he had to order them in).They are new runners by NIKE.They are so flashy,they look like tin foil:p HE saw them in one of my magazines and ordered them for our local sports store.I didn't need a new pair though.
THEN.......I found out about a job opening.A new airline is comming to our town so I applied on-line for a customer rep job.They called me yesterday afternoon and wanted to have a interview over the phone.I couldn't do it then b/c I had to go back to work.So,they are calling my today at 5:30:7 The only thing is,its part-time hours so I will probably be making less money then what I am making now.But who knows maybe I will stay in my current job part-time as well.Then again my boss probably wouldn't be very happy if I left and she may not even let me stay for part-time.Shes like that.I'd take part time just to get out of that place.Who knows...I may not even get the job but I was excited that something came up that I could apply on b/c there hasn't even been anything around.I'll let ya know how it goes.
I am doing Upper Body work today.I thought about mixing it up as well,maybe doing CTX upper body next time.Those videos are hard but I don't think that they are long enough.My legs didn't get to sore from lower body the other day.Maybe b/c of the betagen.
Off O go, hope everyone has a good day.Wish me luck on my interview.I probably won't check in until after the interview b/c I am wokring all day.

Good morning girlies! I just found a new workout that works great for BFL cardio! I just did the Gauntlet but only did the cardio parts! What a fun workout! It is so easy to skip the wts etc. Basicly you do the Imax2 sections, some of the 1st BC sections and then the last BC section! I couldn't finish all of it because I was already at about 40 minutes w/warmup. LoriHart I bet you would love it because you love the terminator! I feel great! I was at my high intensity for most of the workout! I definitely think this one would fall within what BFL calls for!!!!!! :7

LoriHart - follow your heart on the job thing! Trust your gut. Sounds like a fun opportunity for you. I don't think crackers and a bite of protein bar really counts as cheating. Don't be so hard on yourself. :+ According to EAS it is alright to eat right before bed (especially w/Myoplex or other shake etc.)

My legs are sore from yesterday! The betagen does help though. I can really feel a difference.

I everyone, did my LBWO this morning. I was feeling it as I was working out but so far I am doing pretty good. My legs may feel it tomorrow and that will be cardio.

My hubby did his cardio last night and came upstairs and said he has a new goal for me on the treadmill. He went 40 minutes including a cooldown. He did over 2 miles and 476 calories (I know that calorie counters are not accurate) and he says can you beat me. I told him I doubt it because I cannot run like he does. We will see. I plan on doing the longer workout in the morning so lets see what I can do.

Good morning. Well, I did not get up and do the cardio thing again this morning. I did not get home until late last night, and when my alarm went off a 6, I laid there a minute, and fell back to sleep!!! I was a little ticked at myself. So, I will do it with food in my stomach again. I read on another website to wait until it has been 2 hours since you have eaten, I will do that. I am almost there now.

Thanks for the Gauntlet tip!!!! I am going to do that this morning. I love to try new things. I am going to get on the trewadmill a couple times next week, I hope. I just love Cathe's tapes so much better. But, if I put one in and watch it whjile I am running, it is just like doing it!!!

Well, I have barely talked to my daughter. She called yesterday for my mom's phone number and she was rude. I have been praying for her everyday and asking all my friends to too. I will be heartbroken if she does not come back home, but if she is happier, that will be the best thing for her.

Fitnut - Thank you for the Gauntlet tip!! Do you know how long the workout is without the weight segments? I kind-of have to plan everything time wise so that I can get my workouts done before my son wakes up in the morning. It is nice to have some variety.

I a still waiting to have my interview.He was suppose to call around 6ish.It is almost 7 now.I am not going to wait around much longer,there are to many things I need to do.You never know what he may of got caught up in.
Fitnut-I will be trying that new workout in the morning.Today was such a nice day here and I wanted to go for a run but I had to come home and wait for this phone call.I wanted to try out my new sneakers.Tomorrow is freezing rain and snow! Don't think I will be running very far tomorrow,from the house to the car.
I had a pretty good day again today.I posted a question on BFl asking what if you don't take a cheat day and instead a cheat meal? I got this link back saying that one of the best bodies on BFL just had two cheat meals a week instead of a day of eating.I am in he mood today to have a cheat meal but I just had dessert on Tuesday and alot of it.

Oh , I forgot to tell you that I wore a pair of jeans to work today, that 2 weeks ago I could BARELY get done up.And I was comfortable in them to.Last time I tried them on I got the button done up and then any fat that I had seemed to come pouring out over the top of them.It was horrible! If that isn't reason enough for me to stick with it, thenI don't know what is.:7

I am so tired! I am diffently going to need a nap sometime today.I am actually thinking about going back to bed and wondering how in the world I am suppose to be jumping around on a step like this.Hopwfully this coffee will wake me up.I woke up at 5:57 and got up just in time to see the clock change to 5:30.I was like...wait a minute.It was 5:27 instead of 5:57.I crawled back into bed for 30 min.
Well, I didn't hear from that job interview after.Our meeting was sort of set up on the spare of the moment so you never know what he may have had to attend to after.If it was meant to be, he'll call.If not, oh well.
Hope everyone has a good day today.I only have to work until 1.When I got off I may go for a run or a nap.I think my body needs the nap more.:7

Hi guys! I can't believe you were up so early on a Sat. Lori! Good for you! You go girl! You are sounding a lot like me as my body is pooped! Today is suppose to be ,my rest day. We are having company tomorrow and I am making lasagna :9. So.... since I am so sore I am going to take a rest day only from workout. Then tomorrow I will take my food rest day and have 1 bad meal!

Ya' know how I added ME upper body to my lower body this week... I would suggest not doing it unless it fits right in with a following free day. As there would be now way I could lift upper body the BFL way today due to me doing that. I basically missed 1 day of recovery. Stupid of me! However, it will work out alright as I will be ready for upper body tomorrow. I basically just switched my free day for exercise... today for tomorrow!

Congrats on your jeans Lori! Doesn't that feel great! I saw some of my neighbors this weekend that hadn't seen me without a coat since last year. They all said I looked like lost a ton of weight:) I guess we see our bodies every day (as do our hubby's) so we tend to notice it so much maybe?

Sara - the Gauntlet cardio took me about 40 minutes. But I wasted a couple minutes attempting to write down the segments (even though I messed them all up). Basicly with warm up you should be able to finish it in about 30 minutes. I skipped the terminator climbers as I just wasn't up to it. I was so sore on Lower body from the day before. I did the ski jumps. I had to skip the last cardio section as I was already up to 40 minutes. If you don't waste time like I did writing down things you might be able to do it all in 30 minutes. I didn't do ANY of the sections with weights. It whooped my booty! Especially at 5:30 in the morning!

I just ate egg beaters and an english muffin. For lunch we are going to Lone Star Steakhouse and I will have a small sirloin steak, salad and either potato or rice. Dinner, who knows? Chicken or something? Then, tomorrow I am going to have 1 bad meal.... (lunch - LASAGNA, BREAD, Salad etc.) and try to be good the rest of it.

Hope you guys have a happy BFL saturday! If today is your free day... ENJOY it! I am sure enjoying the rest and will enjoy the freedom with food tomorrow:+ It is so nice having you guys to talk to!!!!!
 
I think we all must have missed your post:+ We have started a new trend now.#4.There are a few of us who decided to try the Body For Life program.I think it was already started when I came along but when I checked in one day,after already starting on my own,I found a few ladies already doing the program so I just jumped right in.
You really need to read the book in order to get the program.It incorportes eating 6 meals a day.Each consisting of 1 serving of protein and 1 serving of carbs,then you add a serving of vegtables to two of those meals.You workout 6 days a week,alternating strength with cardio.The book recommends doing 3 high intensity cardio sessions(20 min)and 3 strength workouts(45min).You work the upper body once one week and the lower body twice.The next week you switch it around.The book recommends using the pyramid system.I use my Cathe Pyramid workouts.I may switch to Slow and Heavy in a couple of weeks or maybe just add something different in there.Then you get one day a week where you eat whatever you want and you can eat as much of it as you want.This is suppose to confuse the body, to keep it from plateauing.
I haven't had a big blow out day yet but I have not followed the book to a "T".I have had a couple of treats in the run of a week instead.Sometimes the cheat day can really throw you for a loop.I think the cheat day was created for people who had horrile eating habits and he wants you to realize how disgusting you feel after eating trash.But I haven't ate horrible in years.I can't rememeber the last time I had a burger and a plate full of french fries.My problem is mindless eating.Just picking at food when I am not hungry, and I love sweets.
Anyway,you should get the book and give it a try.If you want to check it out a bit more you could go to Bodyforlife.com.So far most of us have seen a improvement in our clothes and even the scale.
