BFL for Monday Feb-25-08

Belinda – I like the upperbody premix, the leg premix, and the premix with Bootcamp Drills and Kickbox combined the best.

Christina – Definitely let us know how the personal trainer session goes! It’s hard to stay on plan when you go on vacation, but good for you for getting back on track right away. You know, I have all the iTreads, most of the iClimbs, and lots of iCycles but I haven’t tried any iBallets yet. I never took ballet so I’m not sure I could follow it!

Michelle – I’ll have to check out those fanny packs! When I do my long runs on the path, I usually put all my water bottles, gels, and extra tissue (because my nose runs like a hose when I run, lol) in a plastic shopping bag. Attractive, huh? I have to hide it though, I’m afraid someone will “mess” with it...ick, lol.

Kim – Great job on the loose pants and 5 lbs. Yay! Alternating low impact with your running is a good idea to prevent injuries.

Carolyn – I can do ¾ of a pull up on my own and about 12 “assisted” pull ups at a time (using an Iron Woody band wrapped around my pullup bar). I did the first 6-7 weeks of this challenge splitting up my cardio and weights (BFL style) but have two races coming up I need to train for (a duathlon on 4/27 and a full marathon on 5/4). So I’m trying to keep the weight work strickly BFL (which I’ve done the entire challenge) and go with my training flow with the cardio. I hope that makes sense, lol.

Gayle – LOL! I was like WOW! I’m inching my way up here (I have a 16 miler this week) and thought man that Gayle is going to whiz by me (he,he). What did you think of the new Clean Eating? It has some great stuff in there! I subscribed right away but didn’t get the premiere issue for some reason. Did you get that one? Is it worth ordering from the website (for a fee?)

Kathy

It's absolutely GORGEOUS outside, so it's hard to believe that they're forecasting freezing rain for us tonight! I'm ready for SPRING! I took my new GPS with me on the walk to work, just to see the mileage, and as I expected, it's EXACTLY .75 miles one way. LOVE IT!

Michelle-there’s just something about running, and it’s hard to explain. The first 5-10 minutes are always the hardest; that’s the time it takes to get your legs and FEET warmed up, get your breathing into a normal pattern, etc. Once I get past that time, I could just RUN and RUN and RUN! And although I LOVE my treadmill, taking it to the road just adds a whole NEW dimension to it all. The unforgiving terrain, the unplanned hills and slight inclines…not to mention the DOWNhills! LOL (I love hills too, so I tend to pick the hilliest areas around, which isn’t really a hard thing to do, since they’re hills EVERYWHERE around here! LOL).. GO FOR IT, girl! As for carrying my stuff. I’m all strapped up with my iPod on my left arm, GPS on my wrist, and HRM strap on my chest. But I don’t carry anything else! LOL shhhhhhhhhhhhh….I leave my back garage door unlocked and sometimes I’ll wear my water belt if I’ll be going outside for more than 6 or 7 miles.

Kathy-I was SOOOO disappointed with my mail because I haven’t gotten that new issue yet! I’m trying to be patient! I got the premiere issue alone, so far! It is very good. I haven’t looked thru it in a while, so I’ll have to go refresh my memory.

Gayle

ETA! OH! And remember to offer up LOUD PRAYERS....the winners for the BFL cruise will be announce by Wednesday!!!

Gayle, I saw your "Saturday: long run of 8-20 miles" typo...I thought that was a new thing! LOL The meatloaf recipe looks yummy! I just received my first issue of clean eating magazine. I really like it! Lots of good ideas. Let us know ASAP when you win the cruise! Oh, and how do you make your fonts bold/etc.?

Michelle, glad your back is coming around. I've been thinking of you since this morning!

Rhonda, great job on your BFL leg workout! I have yet to do a LB BFL w/o. What exercises did you do? I may have to "use" yours! Have a great day!

Jennifer, I had no idea what a WAWA was...I had to google it! I didn't know if you were "crying" or what! LOL Hope you stay healthy with all those germs flying around!

Lainie, nice job on your UB w/o! Good luck at the PT.

Kathy, loving my TM! I ran (don't laugh!) 3.2 miles yesterday and walked the remainder .8 miles for a total of 4 miles. It felt wonderful! I imagined all you runners doing it right along with me...thanks! Sounds like you had a great w/o this morning! I will be ordering itreads today, HMMMMMMM, so many decisions!

Christina, how was your new personal trainer? Sounds like you had a nice vacation! I've been eying iSCUPLT Ballet, but like Kathy, not sure I could manage it since I've never taken ballet! Probably lots of good inner thigh work, right?

Kim, good for you on not missing a workout and eating clean! I've been thinking too about using Low Max. Haven't done that one in awhile! Congratulations on the weight loss!!!

Carolyn, great job on the pull-ups! I KNOW you can make your goal!

Today was measure/weigh/photo day. I lost 2.5" and 3 pounds! Overall since starting BFL (I'm starting week 4) I've lost a total of 4 pounds and 8.5"! I think with using the new TM and eating CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN has really paid off! Can't wait to see what next week brings after running all week on the TM!!! You all are awesome and inspiring. I can't thank you enough! Love ya'll! ;)

Hi everyone,

Just got back from my first workout with a personal trainer. The hour really flew by! He had me do circuits of about 3 exercises each:

Sumo squats/chest press/lat row

Bench press/pull overs/leg extension machine/leg curl machine

Shoulder sets (posterior, side, front, and shoulder press)/ ab variations (oh man did he have a lot of these!!)/back extensions on exercise ball

And we finished with really heavy leg press sets and squat thrusts.

We repeated all the circuits 3 times.

I was tired - but in a good way. One thing I definitely noticed: I worked harder than usual because he was there counting and holding me to it. I am kinda a show-off sometimes, and having him there made me go the extra mile, so to speak. He was a very nice, friendly guy. That's why I finally took the personal trainer plunge actually. Cause I could tell I would like working with him (not in an inappropriate way! Just that he seemed down to earth, you know).

So I am psyched - it's another way to change things up and keep the results coming.

For those of you who were wondering about the iSculpt Ballet - they come with really nice pdfs showing how to do all the moves. I think you could easily do them without having a ballet background. And they will sculpt all those little postural/thigh/glute muscles that can get ignored in a straight squats & lunges type of LB routine. I'll definitely be working iSculpt Ballet into my weekly rotation!

Well- I still have cardio to do today. BBL after I'm done!

Whew. I'm finally back. Busy day.

I did my first BFL upper body workout today--just doing it on my own--no video workout or anything. I chose the two types of moves for each body part and did it like the book says. It says it'll take 46 minutes--took me 71. :p Of course, I had to refer to the directions a lot since it was my first time doing it the BFL way. Plus my kids got up earlier than expected and interrupted me a bit. I still managed to get them to school on time and to get to physical therapy on time, so that was good. So weird to have this time of day free while my little one naps.

So far I'm doing fine with the eating, though my second meal was a bit late (because right after p.t. I went to the grocery store before picking my youngest DS up from nursery school) so I was pretty hungry by then.

Belinda, hi! I may start checking in here more than our other check-in group because it's more specific to what I'm doing right now.

Michelle, hope your back is o.k.--be careful with it!

Stephanie, great job with the weight and inches lost! That reminds me, I still have to do the before photos and measurements. Eek.

Gayle, yeah, I was thinking I would try a Low Max premix tomorrow--might even go up to a 4" step and test my knees (been using just a MatStep).

Rhonda, how do you like Tummy Trimmers? I've thought about getting that one myself for some more ab work variety. I like Cathe's ab workouts, but I have to modify a lot of them since my abs are still pretty weak.

Jennifer, hope you manage to avoid the flu--my family has been through a lot of colds and stuff this winter. Ugh.

Kathy, what is WaWa, anyway? I seem to remember seeing a sign for it on my way to visit my brother in Virginia once, but don't remember what it was.

Christina, thanks for the iSculpt ballet info--I've been wondering if ballet would be a good option for me since I can't do much weight work with bad knees.

Kim, love the name Madelynn Grace--my first son would have been named that if he had been a girl, but spelled Madeleine. Instead he's Isaac Christopher.

Carolyn, I know I can't do pull-ups. The only time I try them is when I jog down a nearby trail that has certain exercise equipment spaced along part of the way--there's a place where you can try pull-ups. I'd like to get some kind of pull-up bar at home where I can at least try them more.

OK, have to get ready to go pick up oldest DS from the bus stop soon.

Hey girls!

Just checking in to see what you all have been doing today.

Rhonda, Kathy and Lainie: Great job on your BFL upper workout today.

Kathy: That is great that you are ready for another increase in your weights!

Belinda and Stephanie: Gotta love doing the abs first! }(

Stephanie: Awesome! Down another 3#'s. :)

Sherry: Are you ready for another 12 weeks? :)

Hi Jennifer: Nice to hear from you. Have a great workout on the elliptical later. :)

Hey Gayle: DD and I had a great 3.5miler yesterday. }( It has been a few since I last ran outside. I am feeling this today in my shins. Not bad...just letting me know I did something new. :)
Thanks for the meat loaf recipe.:9 Wishing you luck on the cruise contest!

Hi Melissa: How are you and DH doing today? Hope all went well.

Michelle: Oh Dear! Rest and ice is in store for your back. Take it easy! I hope you feel better tomorrow. :)

Christina: Great to have a new trainer! This will help make sure that you are lifting correctly and smoothly.

Kim: I recently did lowmax and loved it. Enjoy!

Carolyn: Way to go on the Pull-ups! Hey you have to start somewhere! The girl that played Sara Connor on the terminator had her trainer lifting her when she first started! Great job!

I have a swing set outback with monkey bars that I can practice on. My 12 yr old son laughs when I try to lift myself up! I might be able to do one completely with out assistance. Will have to work on this for sure. Thanks for the challenge! ;-)

Ok....for me. No workout yet. I have to run out and pick up oldest DS. He just called and wants to come over for the evening. I haven't seen him for about 2weeks now.

DH is now in the Caymans. I dropped him off at the airport at 4am and then came home to crash until DD had to leave for school. I went to work and came home to crash for another 1hr. Just feel totally exhausted from this whole "Get DH ready for his trip" thing.

Workout planned for later:
Abs from B&G
GS chest/tri
set 1 40min run

I hope everyone has a great night. BBL Heidi
