BFL Check in Wed 10/3

Good morning ladies,
It is 5:41 am. I should have been down in the basement 11 min. ago but I'm finishing my cup of coffee!

When I get less than 7 hours of sleep I just have the hardest time getting up.

It's legs today for me!

Oh, Gayle, you said yesterday about introductions.

I am married with 4 sons, I'm 40 years old. I work full time as the executive director of a small non-profit organization. Fortunately, I have the flexibility of being able to work from home when I need to. My office is an hour awayx( and driving back and forth really stinks!

My husband travels a lot! He's gone most of the time. So I usually have way more to do than I can manage in one day

I am trying to get back to school to finish my bachelor's degree but am having a really hard time finding the money.

I travel frequently for my job and that makes working out difficult. I don't usually have a problem doing cardio in the fitness rooms but I am kind of uncomfortable trying to figure out the weight equipment in a new place in front of people I don't know.

I have always loved to exercise and be active but this whole aging thing has really spurred me on to get more goal oriented. Not so I can stay eternally youthful but so that I can stay strong and functionally fit and just keep going for as long as I can!

I have one son who does cyber charter school because of medical problems and even that is challenging sometimes! I really can't imagine home schooling but I really admire people who do it.

For yesterdays report:
Food was good EXCEPT...I had three glasses of Red wine in the evening.

This is going to be my biggest challenge is controlling the amount of calories that I take in with regard to my evening wine. I don't believe I can limit myself to just one glass in the evening so I may have to make it a free day thing onlyx( ;( :(

Okay, gotta get downstairs and workout!!!

Talk to you all soon,
Kerry

Oh, one quick thing with regard to that cottage cheese that you dislike so much Gayle!

You could try Lite Ricotta Cheese instead. It has only about .5 grams of fat more per serving than the cottage cheese, fewer sugar and carbs, roughly the same amount of protein and calories and the same amount of calcium.

It is something you eat a lot of on the South Beach Diet. It is creamier and richer tasting than cottage cheese. You may like it better!

Kerry

Hey, Kerry. You're just starting and I'm just now finishing! LOL Enjoy your workout! Thanks for the tip on the ricotta. Maybe, if I can't blend the cottage enough to be smoot enough for me, I'll try ricotta! THANKS!

OK...lower body workout is done. DOMS are setting in already...or maybe the wobblyness I've got right now is not yet DOMS, but I'll get them, for sure! I went really heavy, shooting for that 10, but I still felt like I could have pumped out another rep or 2. For numbers (if you don't mind), I maxed out on barbell squats with 80 and leg extensions at 65. I maxed with a deadlift at 70 pounds! YIKES! Then I did Stretch Max with the band. Feeling great! Ready to start the day.

My quick intro: I'm 35, with 2 boys..they'll be 10 and 7 THIS MONTH! I'm a SAHM, but I just got a part time job as a Cafeteria Monitor in my kids' elementary school. I walk to and from the school each day (weather permitting), which is about 3/4 of a mile each way. I love this job! It's fun and I konw a TON of the kids. You'll hear me refer to 'late DH' every now and then, especially when it comes to BFL. He passed away from leukemia...it was 3 years ago on Sept 25th. I'm currently dating a great guy, and I'm hoping things continue to move forward. He's awesome (as are his kids, who go to our schools too...convenient).

OK.....I have to shower. Wednesdays are our CRAZY days. I clean for a friend (who pays me, lol), then I go to the school for work. Then my kids take Catholic Religion classes in the afternoon, and younger DS has football tonight.

TONIGHT.....I'm going to put on the actual coat of paint. The primer was done last night! YEAH!

BBL, but not till much later!

Gayle

Good Morning~ :)

Ok, besides the donut yesterday the rest of the day was 100% clean. Got a good cardio workout in....Did the step premix of Cardio Fusion. I have to say, I keep on forgetting how tough this one is. I got up to the end of BM2 (Power Circuit 1) and I thought I was going to puke.... Is this a good or bad feeling? :)

I have to confess...Donut and b'fast sandwich this morning.... Ok, let's hear it. I need the punishment!!
I do have to say though, I have lost 2.5 pds so far this week.

Received my BBC last night. I only got to preview 1/2 of the Arms Dvd....but what I saw was good...I think I am really going to live this set. Has anyone done a rotation. How did you put them together? I am going to start next week after I get a chance to preview them all. Since I don't have a treadmill at home, I am going to have to opt for the cardio WO.
Maybe it's possible I can copy the Treadmill program and when I do get to the gym I can do it then....

All meals planned for today;
B~Protein Pancakes (Had the sandwish/donut instead :() :9
S~CC/Yogurt
L~Chicken Breat/brown rice/veggies
S~Egg whites/apple
D~Fish, veggies, salad
S~Protein shake

Tonight is LBWO. I will probably stay away from PLB only b/c my knees tend to flare up. Maybe I will do the BBC Legs, or I will throw in Buns of Steel... :)
Hope all is well!

Take Care~

Well folks, I'm up on time but my workout is going to have to wait until later, I think. I have my chem test later and I need that little bit of extra time to work some problems. My eating yesterday was great with one small exception...for dinner we had turkey quesadillas made with turkey, ff cheddar cheese, and a ww tortilla. But DH made it and ended up cooking it in butter. Other than that, I've been doing well with my eating. It helps soooo much to plan my meals the night before!!

I'm off to get DH & DD ready for their day, so have a great day everyone!

Good morning, all!

Didn't get to keep up with any of the chatting yesterday, the day was just too busy. But I had a great day of eating, meaning I stuck to the plan, not that I had a big fat piece of blueberry pie like I was tempted with! I also got a great workout in last night. I did PLB, and was able to go pretty darn heavy. Maybe not quite as heavy as Gayle, but I was still happy with myself. (You go, girl!!) The lightest barbell I used for any of the exercies was 40 lbs, with the heaviest at 70 lbs. The only thing is that I just can't seem to lift anything heavier than that over my head. I wish I had a squat rack.

I haven't officially introduced myself at all. I'm 36, a single mom of two (son, 12, daughter, 9), and I just recently started working full time for the first time since 1995. I've held part-time jobs while my kids grew, but I got my bachelor's degree last year and now that they're older and a little more self-sufficient I figured it was time to go back. Not to mention I needed the income. I was divorced almost two and a half years ago, and though my ex is very financially supportive, still need that extra income now that I'm on my own. I work in the legal field as a paralegal for the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee for the Western Massachusetts Division. I really like the job, just trying to adjust to the crazier schedule. I date an attorney who I used to work part-time for, and he's wonderful to me. All in all, I'm at a good place in my life. I expect that in twelve weeks, it'll be even better. :7

Kerry, I totally understand the wine issue. I think it has been my undoing this past year relative to my weight gain. I decided that if I want to succeed in this challenge, I had to completely give it up, cold turkey. I enjoy it too much to even save it for my free day. ;(

So today I have all my mini-meals packed up, and cardio is on for tonight. I'd post in more detail, except I'm at work, have been for fifteen minutes, and this post is the only thing I've accomplished so far! Shame on me.

Chat with y'all later!

Jen

Jennifer: walk away from the donuts:) Your meals are awesome, don’t need donuts to sabotage your hard earn effort. My biggest problem is sweets also, Yesterday, I brought the 100 calorie pack of carrot cakes :9 they are so tiny you get 3 in a pack, it was just enough to kill sweet tooth. I brought BBC when first came out haven’t done not one workout yet, Enjoy!

Hello Everyone,

Was really exhausted this morning and running late to get my DD to the train. Luckily she was too! She ended up taking the 7 instead of 6 o'clock train. Gave me time to get a cup of coffee and make her lunch. (What a good mom I am ;-) ....she's 21)
Got my husband going and son off to school. Dishes, laundry and housecleaning done.

I just finished my PLB and BodyMax 2 abs workout. Boy oh Boy! I better move my workout station to the 1st floor! My legs were a shaking coming up those stairs. I am not up to even half the weight Cathe uses on most of the exercises. I use DD's 8,10 and 12 pounders.
A little worried about my legs getting that thick muscle builders form. I don't want that! My husband does not like women with big muscles. (maybe he would be intimidated..hehehe)
:)

I am having problems with the PUB bicep workout. I can't understand why this one really gets me. I have pretty big biceps but this just makes me sore for several days after. Granted yesterday and today they aren't as sore as the last time I did them! I couldn't straighten my arms for a full week!

I have to get some food now and get going to work. I hope everyone has a great day!

Take Care,

so if we are being honest....

yesterday was my first workout since May. We moved from VA to AL in June, and I was busy packing and moving and then unpacking. EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES!! So, i hurt SO BAD today that I couldn't face PLB. I know, I'm a slacker. I'm taking this week to ease into things, and will be on board with you all SOON!

Eating was crap. I have to learn how to eat out. I've been out with my kids all day, which meant i didn't plan meals. ANy ideas?

jessica

Jessica, don't feel bad. I stopped teaching Tae Bo at the end of April and stopped working out for practically the whole summer, then it was kind of touch and go. And when I don't work out regularly my eating goes into the toilet as well. I always keep a baggie of almonds on me just in case I get caught away from a proper meal. Sit down with a cup of herbal tea or something relaxing at the end of the day and take 10 minutes to map out your next day's meals. I like to get ideas from places like the Body for Life book, Eating for Life (his cookbook, which is great), or even Oxygen magazine when they have meal plans. I never follow them but get ideas. And I keep it simple because I don't really like to cook.

Oh, and I couldn't get my lower body workout in today because my knees hurt too bad :-(

Jessica and Jill, don't feel bad about not working out. You're better off easing into it rather than making yourself so sore that you don't want to do it again at all. Heck, we have 12 weeks here! I'm certain that there are very few people who started right off followng the plan absolutely perfectly, it's just not realistic. We're human, for goodness sake. And yet, if you look at the pictures on the body for life tracker sight, there are some fantastic results there. The thing we have to do is start each day anew and forget about yesterday. Tomorrow is a new day!

I just got off my treadmill and I'm drenched. The thing I like about the evening workouts is that it really helps me to unwind, and that makes me not want a glass of wine. I thought I'd never be able to live without my wine.

Where is everyone today? Our BFL group was quiet today. Hope everyone had a good day.

Jennifer

Thanks Jennifer! I didn't take the day off because I was too sore (although I AM feeling PUB's workout!) but because my knees hurt. And due to the nature of the workout I planned on doing, I realized that it would be the WRONG thing to do, that they would just hurt more and might even sideline me for a bit! But I'll get back to a low impact workout tomorrow (can't wait!). I have been eating well the last several days, though, which is fantastic because I was eating too much junk for a while and eating as frequently as I am I am not having the sugar cravings that I was before. Thanks for the encouragement, I appreciate it. You know, in national studies of weight loss, they say that the most successful people have a good support network...I think it is so important to have it!

Hello Ladies,

What a day! Today I have two sick children and I think my allergies are acting up or I am catching a cold.Bummer.

I have a two year old in Mother's Day out but that did absolutely nothing for me today as far as having sometime to myself because my 8 year old was running a 102 fever and throwing up. He doesn't speak and is autistic so he never could tell me that he was feeling sick in time to get to the bathroom. I had lots of cleaning up to do.

No matter. I got my PLB in while he slept and talk about not being able to walk. It felt great to feel those muscles working. I haven't worked out since Labor day weekend when I hurt my back. But I got the OK from my chiropractor last week and the timing of this BFL check in is so timely. Thank you for starting it up and for the accountability.

OK, its time to get dinner started and do some ironing. YUCK!

It is cardio and ABS tomorrow. I hope I'm not too sore.I feel it already.

Have a great evening ladies.

Veronika
Rise and Shine!

Okay, my day is winding down. So I can stop in and post. Although I did my workout, my food has been terrible.

It was a little bit stressful today. This working full time and all that just stinks some time. I was a sahm for many years. Finances got tighter and tighter as time went by and then, like a gift from heaven, this job kind of fell into my lap. Long story, I'll fill you all in someday. Don't want to ramble too long in one post :7

Anyway, some days I would just love to quit this job and take care of my family like I used to be able to dox(

Okay, enough ranting}(

First! So nice to get the scoop on all of you. It really does make it easier to be supportive and chatty when we all have an idea what's going on with each other.

Jen, It is comforting to find another wine lover on the thread! I really think I'm going to have to go cold turkey too. And I agree with you %100, I know that my little indulgence is pretty much the only thing standing between me and that last 10 lbs. ;(

Gayle! We are both in PA (I look at everyones profiles) so we are in the same time zone, so what time do you get up?????:) )If you are done at 5:45!!!! I am actually supposed to start at 5:30 SHARP. If I don't, it screws up the whole morning and we all run late. But I have to get 7 hours of sleepx( x( x( or I can't get up.

And my kids have CCD on Wednesdays too:) Well, one of them does, the other two are in highschool and the youngest one isn't in CCD yet but he goes to Catholic preschool.

I cleaned for two people before I got this job! Just helping to make ends meet without having to work full time (until this job came along).

Wow, Gayle it sounds like we have a lot in common.

That must have been extremely difficult to lose your husband with the kids being so young...and you being so young for that matter. I am happy to see that you are continuing to live a fulfulling life and taking care of yourself and growing as a person! Good job!

Heidi, I got my Pyramid DVD today!!! Woo hoo! I'm excited. I think I'll go ahead and do the upper body tomorrow, because Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I'll be out of town. Friday I'll do the cardio down in the workout room but Saturday I'm sure I'll be too tired.

Was it Jill or Jennifer that had knee problems?? Sorry to hear about you guys who have knee problems, that would really stink.

Veronika, sympathy to you and your sick kids. Hang in there, this too shall pass!

Well, I'd better go pack at least some of the stuff we need for our trip, I'd really like to just go to bed.......

Goodnight everyone! If I don't get to post while we're gone--I will be back on Sunday!

Kerry

Jill, I'm in total agreement with you about the support network. I look forward to checking in here whenever I get a chance because I know it'll keep me going. And the accountability factor is really doing it's job! I DID NOT want to work out tonight (just tired and lazy), but I thought of everyone here who'd be telling me to just DO IT, and also about the commitment I've publicly made, and it helped me get in gear. I hope your knees feel better soon. Definitely take it easy.

Veronika, I'm sending you wishes for a good night's sleep. I know those are hard to come by with sick kids. Hope you're little ones feel better soon, too.

Jessica, for one thing, I am still a student and between homework, family time, and teaching, the teaching had to go. Also, I realized that a) I would much rather be a student in a fitness class than the teacher (I enjoy it more that way) and b) I am not willing to do what Billy Blanks asks of his instructors in order to recertify. It was kind of taking over my life and training for recert (which is harder than regular cert camp) was sucking all the joy out of my workouts. When I stopped teaching I stopped doing Tae Bo until probably August, but even then I've only done it 2 or 3 times since then.

Kerry, it is me that has the knee problems. It probably comes from years of working out on my carpeted cement floor (I'm guessing that's what's under the carpet) but bad knees kind of run on my mom's side of the family so I just have to be careful. I've seen the doctor about them but it comes and goes and I don't have anything that requires anything more than regular ibuprofen for a couple of days here or there. I'm also not used to doing such high impact workouts (like Drill Max)! I was thinking of selling it but I think I'll keep it for down the road when my cardio conditioning is better...and I'll put the padding back down on my floor. I had never done a high impact workout or even step workouts before I started doing Cathe's cardio workouts a couple of months ago and holy cow, they are fun but they kick my butt! I'm sure it doesn't help that I took the summer off from regular workouts, either...it's the longest I had gone without working out in years.

Veronika, that is great that you still got your workout in! It's hard enough when they are sick (my daughter is 8) but when they don't speak it's got to be even harder. I hope your son feels better soon.

Hey everyone! Late check in for me, then I'm headed to bed. My Crazy Wednesday is coming to a close! YAY! Every Wednesday will be like this, but that's okay. It's only 1 day out of the week, right? Actually, I just got done painting my 1st coat of paint (did the primer coat last night). It looks GREAT! I love the color, but I have to do another coat. That's the ONE thing I HATE about painting....multiple coats. Because it's such a deep color it didn't cover as well as I wanted it to. Oh Well. ONE MORE COAT THEN it will be done! LOL Hoping to do it tomorrow after school, during daylight hours!

I'm sore! DOMS started setting in early in the day today from this morning's LB workout. OUCHIES! lol Ought to be interesting for tomorrow morning's HIIT. I'm planning on doing it on the stationary bike this time, for variety. Then abs and a stretch!

OK...sorry...no personals, but I must get to bed. That alarm goes off at 4:45 and I like to be in the basement by 5:15 sharp.

Good night!!!

Gayle
