Hey Burners!

It's the beginning of yet another week. Let's hope that everyone is enjoying continuing success.

To all who enter here, please feel free to jump in and contribute. This is not a closed thread. Anyone who is currently using or thinking of using BFFM (this is the eBook by Tom Venuto called Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle) you are very welcome to join in! We'd love to hear from you.

What a wonderful invitation! I just wanted to say that I want to somedat buy the book and when I di I will join you all. I just can't seem to purchase it in e-form. If it were over the counter I would buy it in a second! Too costly to print it out etc. Or maybe I am too lazy!

Hey, TK and Everyone Else!

How was your weekend? Mine was good. I did good. I readjusted my calories, and I am trying something new. So maybe this will help me. I finished Cathe's Butt & Gut rotation. I added some things to it, but I got good results. I am starting Upper Body Bliss today. I am adding more cardio to it.

My cheat was air-popped popcorn. Way better than last weekend. Well, I will check in again tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Hi Burners,

As I continue with the BFFM program I still learn something important about my regime and my body each week. Last week I discovered Fitday and by using that in combination with heart rate/calorie monitor it made huge difference in tracking caolries in and out.

Suddenly one day I had dropped 2 lbs and "locked in". I found out that by having 2 glasses of wine and a very sensible (1/2 portion Thai chicken curry w/ veggies)meal I still maintained my weight the next day. I drank a lot of water with the wine.

But Saturday was a mini-trip to NY with hubby and step son. We love "picnicking" in our hotel room...so more wine and snacks. For my cocktail snacks I have chosen Laughing Cow Light spreadable swiss and Trader Joes 100% whole wheat woven (Triscuits without the additives) crackers. So two high calorie days in a row.

I won't weigh in until after a long run and High Step Challenge today.

Workout
B-2/3 cup oatmeal, 8oz Isopure
S-1/2 cup cottage cheese, 3oz turkey breast
L-Whole wheat english muffin, 2 laughing cow servings
S-8oz Isopure
D-4oz chicken breast grilled, 1 cup steamed brocolli with lemon, garlic salt and a sprinkle of fresh grated parmesean

Cal=1285, 26%F/26%C/48%P (I get better results with low carb)

What's up with all the Burners?

X

Hi everyone,

Well, I'm slowly but surely working my way through the book. Last week I calculated my daily calories. It came to 1,209. That seems pretty low, but I checked it twice and it's correct. According to my body type, mostly ecto. a little endo. I figure my ratio to be 50%C, 35%P, 15%F. Right now, I need to learn how to plug those numbers into the correct foods to eat.

A typical food day is:
5 egg whites, 1/2 yolk, 1 slice whole wheat bread, 4oz orange juice

1/3C oatmeal, 1-2oz. chicken breast

3C spinach leaves, 3oz tuna (with hot sauce!), 1/2C lf cottage cheese, 1 slice whole wheat bread

4oz. strawberries, 1oz almonds

apple, 1-2oz chicken

dinner, is usually a boca burger, brown rice and mixed vegetables.

I hope I'm doing things right. But, being pregnant, I'm not really calorie counting ~ just getting in the habit.

I was so good all day yesterday, however, my last meal was cranberry bread with butter! WHY???? At least I had a great workout this morning!

Hi everyone! I was out of town part of the week and was extremely busy the rest of it. It was a very stressful week and I didn't do very well with my diet and exercising. :( Amazingly enough, I did lose .5 lb of fat. I was going to be happy if I just didn't gain, so a little loss was great! :)

I went to a costume party on Friday and everyone was raving about how good I looked, so my efforts are really starting to pay off. 7 weeks using BFFM & Cathe and I've lost 9.9 lbs of fat! I have to admit I'm pretty amazed at how well my body is responding, but I really wasn't eating very well or exercising much prior to starting the program. So I guess I really couldn't go anywhere but up. ;-)

Keep up the great work everyone!! :) :)

Marsha

Terri,

It was a little bit of a pain to download, but I've found it very informative and helpful. I got mine printed out at Kinkos, so that made it easier. My dh had a fit when he saw the total price, but he has sure been happy lately seeing the positive body changes!

If you can afford it, it's well worth the price! :)

Happy Monday Burners...

I had a hot date saturday night - and had a higher protein meal and only 3 cocktails all night - and no desert (at least not at the restaurant - hehe) That was the first alcohol that I had in about 3 weeks. Man they tasted good... hehe.. :)

I have been working on my workout schedule for the week as well. I am on the 3rd week of the Upper Body Bliss, but also adding more cardio in with at least 3-30 min cardios during the week in the morning. My goal would be to be getting at least 4-5 days of 30-40 min cardio in the morning. I am getting to where I dont have much problem waking up at 4:15 - but I dont get enough time to cool down before showering and blowdrying my hair - so I keep sweating - terribly annoying... I usually need at least a hour before showering after a hard workout - but I cant see getting up any earlier to get in that time - so just been trying to deal with it.

Oh well - eating has been going pretty well - I dont think I have really cheated with much - other than some light triscuits and cheddar cheese... Just had to have it yesterday... but no sweets... although with Halloween around the corner....

Have a great Monday!

Hi everyone!
I had a good week last week, stayed on track with exercise and only a few treats instead of the whole jar! I didn't loose anything or gain but it was TTOM. I have slacked off on weighing and measuring food a little so this week I am going to pay attention. My weight loss has been slower but when I started BFFM 9 weeks ago I was already eating light and exercising so I think it wasn't such a shock to my system. I also back slide when I start to look really good. I guess it is hard to maintain once you feel you look great! I did have cake for my son's 5 yr birthday, it was worth it. This week I am having dinner out Sat. night with DH for his birthday but I will think ahead, wish me luck.

Just a quick question, my knee is starting to hurt. Right at the bottom of the knee cap. Do you think it is a tendon and what do I do? I don't want to give up my step but maybe something would be better for me this week. Like the treadmill or kickboxing?

Anne I saw your counter and looked at your picture, where are you going to loose 40 lbs from? :)

Keep up the burning! Vicky

Hi burner babes,

Welcome Terri! Regarding the ebook, I took my backup disc to work and printed it there after hours. Since I'm there after hours anyway and exempt from overtime I didn't blink twice about using their printer. Well I did print double-sided to save paper LOL.

C'mon Carla, all you have to confess is air-popped popcorn?? You are too good!

X - Funny you mentioned Laughing Cow cheese. It was on sale in my supermarket so I picked up some. Haven't had it in a long tome. Today I had it spread on slices of a fresh pear. Also, looking at your menu, are you aiming for 1200-1300 calories on a normal day? I'm wondering if I need to lower mine from the 1400-1600 range I'm keeping now.

Susan: is 1209 calories what you're aiming for to lose weight? It does sound a little low. I've not been pregnant so don't know much about these things, but looking at your typical food day don't you need to eat more for the baby?

Marsha - 9.9 pounds WOW. I'm stalled right now but knowing the way I usually lose weight I'm not going to get upset about it, well not *yet* at least.

Anne - glad to hear you had a good date. Is this someone new or someone you've been seeing for a while?

I love my cottage cheese and am always looking for new ways to eat it. Yesterday I cored and sliced an apple, sprinkled cinnamon, a little sweet n low brown sugar on it. Then I nuked it for a few minutes until it was soft and made a little 'juice'. After I took it out of the microwave I mixed some cottage cheese in and a little bran cereal. I swear it almost tasted like an apple strudel.

This week I am trying harder to zig zag my calories, just hoping I might shake loose this little two week plateau I'm experiencing. My loss this past week was a mere .2 pounds. These last two pounds are the hard lard! x(

Happy burning everyone.

Hey there, Everybody!

X-I want a heart rate monitor so bad! I am getting one after the first of the month. Gotta make sure the bills are paid first! :D

Susan-That is all you eat?

Marsha-Congratulations! It does feel good to get compliments, doesn't it?:)

Anne-Sounds like you had a great time! We NEED more details. Is this your first date w/this fella or what?

Vicky-Great job!!!:D

TK-If you only knew my love for popcorn!! :9 This is really good for me. I have to limit myself or it will be the only thing I eat over and over the whole day!! I will wake up swollen like a balloon! I have learned that is what was stalling me. So now if I want it, it has to be a cheat treat for me.;( Have you tried cottage cheese with peanut butter? Put some splenda and cinnamin in it. Tastes like p-nut butter cheese cake. So good!

Today was Imax 3. This afternoon I will do bootcamp cardio & lower only.
My percentages pro 53%/carb 27%/fat 20%. Pretty close. I am trying to stay 50/30/20. My cals are 1420. I like to stay between 1400-1500.

Have a great day!
:)

Hi everyone,

Carla and TK, Yeah, that's a typical day for me. Sometimes an extra something here and there, but not much more. And NOOO, I'm not counting calories now. I just calculated them since I was there in the book. I'm not a very big person, so 1,209 seems doable (just not now). I've been consistently gaining weight in this pregnancy, so that's a good sign. My next apt. is Thursday, I'll let you know.

Marsha, what costume did you wear to "show off" your new shape?

Susan C.M.

Hi Everyone -

I made it out of bed this morning for my 30 min of cardio - it is hard to get out of bed - but feels so good when I am done. I did the step portion of SJP - the music on that one is so much fun. Tonight is Low Max...

Marsha - Congrats on the 9.9lbs - that is great!! Even better when people start to notice - that can be such a motivator as well.

X - I have a heart rate monitor - but havent even used it yet - I need to break it out and figure out what I need to do with it... :)

Vicky - Some of those pictures are from about 2 years ago - right before I decided to try the dreadful depo prevara - which promptly help me gain 30 lbs. It has been frustrating - I finally should have it out of my system - but back when the hardcore series first came out and I was working out 6 days a week - I couldn't even lose a pound. Of course now going to a new Dr. the first thing they tell me is that they can't stand Depo - couldn't beleive my Dr. offered it up and never reccommend it to their patients. Lesson learned... Luckily I am 5'11" - so I can carry it off easier - esp when I see those great ladies on Biggest Loser - when I weigh as much as some of them - but with my height - you wouldnt even guess that I do.

Carla & TK - This was the second date with this person. He is from here and has family here - but spends most of his time in Vegas. I met him online actually - and he is open to moving back to this area too - so, we had another great time - it is so hard to find someone that you have great chemistry with - so I am just trying to enjoy and see where it goes and not freak out over the little stuff and over think things... :) I am hoping to be able to see him again before he leaves town at the end of the week. He is just incredibly busy with work - meetings all day and into the night. He owns the company is here to meet with all the NW branch managers to prep for the holiday season.

I have never really eaten cottage cheese - I got turned off to it when I was a kid because of the texture - but I am really wanting to try it again, and I had some in my hand at the grocery store the other day - but I just couldn't do it... hehe... it scares me... hehe... So - I think I will just get it the next time....

Happy Burning today....

I do have a BIG BIG BIG - did I say BIG challange for me this week... It is my DS birthday on Thursday and he wants to take cupcakes to school.... This means having me make 30+ cherry chip with rainbow chip frosting cupcakes!!!!!! }(

Exactly HOW am I supposed to frost 30 cupcakes without licking my fingers.... I just dont see how that will be possible!!!! Not to mention having at least one tasty, soft, warm cherry chip cupcake!!

I guess I will have to recruit him of something - but you know they never get it quite right and I will have to be adjusting frosting here and there..... UGH!!!

hehe....

Hi everyone,

I am reading all of your calorie counts for the day and I am thinking I have mine too high. I shoot for 1800 or less a day and I really have only been loosing about .2 lbs a week on average so I guess that means I need to refigure my counts.

Yesterday was a rest day due to the slight pain in my left knee and this morning I did three miles on the treadmill. My knee feels fine today so tomorrow it will be ME.

Anne, I hate getting out of bed too but it does feel great when you're done for the day. My son's 5th birthday is today and we had his party on Sat. I gave in and had cake, it only comes once a year. Tonight we are going out to eat as family for his birthday but I already set my mind on a chicken salad with low fat dressing. I am happy for you on the new guy!

TK - I hate the last 10 lbs. You are doing great being only two lbs away. You seem very determined and I know you will meet your goals. I wish I could eat 1300 cals and exercise twice a day. You go girl!

Vicky

Hi Burners,

Vicki - I only work out twice a day a couple times a week. That's because I try to do 5+ cardios a week and weights 2-3 times. I'm too lazy to get up earlier and get it all done in the morning so I will split it up and do a couple of the weight routines at night. And a good move on your part to rest when your knee was hurting. It's really hard to rest sometimes, isn't it?

Anne - I hear ya about getting the motivation to get out of bed in the morning to exercise. I've been getting up early for exercise now for two years and still have to give myself a peptalk every morning. Yeah and definitely recruit DS as head cupcake froster. He probably will get a kick out of helping you with it anyway.

Carla - Hmm, cottage cheese and peanut butter. That's a combo I will have to try.

For a change in pace I've been doing some of Cathe's older step tapes lately. Did StepJam this morning. That first section with the techno hillbilly music always cracks me up. As step tapes go, I was surprised that I burned as many calories as I did. Tonight is PUB. Tomorrow morning has gotta be something really, really sweaty because I have to go to my monthly weigh in at Weight Watchers.

Happy burning everyone!

Hey Burners,

Just want to post to tell you that I will be MIA for a few days. I leave tomorrow for a trip to Houston. There will be some food challenges but maybe all the walking at the quilt show Thurs, Fri and Sat will offset any lapses. My running shoes are packed too so there will be no excuses for me not to exercise.

This morning the scale was down a pound from Friday. Maybe the plateau is starting to break, but I don't want to jinx myself by moving my little slider yet. I have to get past this weekend first!

Everyone take care and keep on burnin'.

Hey TK,

Just caught your note...safe and fun trip to you. I guess I may have to start the thread next week unless another brave burner steps forward.

Let us know how you handle all the challenges.

Don't drink too much.....yeah right!

X

Hey Everyone -

Marsha I am impressed, 9.9 lbs! Way to go girl!

Carla - I have been thinking of trying popcorn for a cheat meal. I am afraid of the water retention though. I know the next day my pants won't fit. It doesn't seem so bad though because the light popcorn I buy is only 250 cal. per bag and I try not to eat the whole bag}(

TK - have a great trip. Thanks for the cottage cheese recommendation. I can't believe you said you were too lazy?! I would never use lazy to describe any of the women on this forum. You're right about the rest, I guess I think I am going to gain 100 lbs overnight if I don't workout. I am excited to hear that you use the older tapes. I just ordered two this week because of the sale.

This week is going good. No cheating except for oatmeal at 8:30pm last night because I was really hungry after playing volleyball. I did ME and played volleyball for 2 hrs yesterday and I did RS today. Tomorrow is weigh in day so hopefully my measurements reflect my work. I am still trying to lower my calories but I seem to be hungry all the time when I get too low. I have been eating almonds this week. I don't know if that is a good idea because they are high in cals and have some fat. I need to go back and read the book again to brush up on some meal ideas. I like to do more cardio but I think I will add some more weight training in to see what happens. Usually I do 5 days cardio and 2 days weights. Only 14 weeks to Hawaii and 10 lbs to go!

Vicky
P.S. 14 days to go and I will be 30!

Vicky,
Actually, if you were going to have anything to snack on before bed, cottage cheese was an excellent choice! I usually have a snack before bed. Mine usually is a mixture of Albacore/salsa/cottage cheese/flax oil. Albacore before bed is ok, but add a little fat to that to slow the digestion of the protein, like a tablespoon of natural peanut butter or walnuts or peanuts or flax oil. You could also try cottage cheese and peanut butter. Cottage cheese is an 80% casein/20% whey protein blend. Casein protein is the slowest digesting protein, and when complimented by peanut butter which will slow it down even more, it takes a long time to digest and therefore your body has a longer supply of protein to keep off catabolism through much of the night.

Wow, the big 3-0.....oh, those were the days, hahaha (I'm 35)
