Best Aerobics for Pear shaped body

Hello !

I have a pear-shaped figure. All of my weight is below my waist and above my knees. Which is best to do to slim down that area: straight stepping, stepping with interval blasts, cicruit training, or the hi-lo aerobics ?

Thank You so much !

You didn't mention kickboxing! I have found kickboxing coupled with Low Max and IMAX1 to be best for me.

I agree, I have being using Kick Max and Low Max combined with the Gym Style workouts and my lower body looks better than ever. I can finally go shopping and not buy relaxed fit jeans.

I also have a pear shaped body and I've heard that stepping can make my quads even bigger! Is this true? If so, is there a way to modify the action so that less emphasis is placed on my quads? Please help! I love your workouts, but I'd love you more if you could shrink my quads.:)

Maybe Cathe could provide a rotation(s) specifically to help pear-shaped people slim down ?!?!?!? That would be WONDERFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :7 :7 :7 :7 :D :D

Running would be the best option. Then Circuit Max, substituting the upper body weight work with 2 mins of squats, lunges, plie squats with 25 pound barbell. Imaxes also.

Lots of Cardio for me I tried following the rotation for this month lower body bonanza and it bulked me back up I stopped the rotation. For me I must do what they recommend if I lift weights I must go lighter and longer reps to slim legs. No help for my butt no matter what I do I would be a great candidate for the liposuction in the rear end. I do 50 count for my outer thighs and I do 50 count with a 10lb dumbell squeeze it in between my knee and thigh and lift and squeeze to the ceiling it has helped I think I will move up to 60 count. In one of my fitness magazines they have some butt exercises that cathe does not do I am going to try.

I have a pear shaped body and I had great results using the BeachBody Slim Series of Debbie Siebers and kickboxing.

These are all great - I too am pear shaped and trying to lost weight while toning up. I may have to do the slim series again - switching each day up - one day SS one day Cardio - something like this

M - SS
T - treadmill (either CC or iTrain)
W - SS
Th - spinervals
F - SS
Sat - treadmill (either CC or iTrain)

What do others think of this? Figure I could try it for four weeks or do I need longer to see results?

Thanks
Rhonda

I also have a pear shaped figure also and I had heard that you would develop your quads if you do more step workouts, or squats, but my experience has been the opposite. I have slimmed down doing step workouts and lower body weight workouts using dumbbells, barbell, etc, doing squats, lunges, etc.... I think that you have to also look at your body type...do you develop muscle quickly? I don't; doing all the exercises I have done, has developed some definition, but I am no where near muscular.. I wish that I could develop muscle easier, but I think I would have to lift heavier weights to achieve this. All of the workouts you are doing, is what I've done, with great results... be consistent, watch you diet, and results will follow... good luck...Dee:7

I used to have this problem with extra in my very upper butt/very lower back area. What worked for me was clean eating, cardio endurance, and muscular endurance. I agree with those of you mentioning anything cardio because this is what is going to burn fat. The only thing is it burns fat from ALL over your body; no pinpointing areas. This is great though because your entire body benefits. The cardio endurance exercises mentioned such as running & kickboxing are my favorites as well and have really worked for me because they really give your legs a workout and are also very good for your heart! I also agree that muscular endurance (lower weights; more reps) are very important to tone (not bulk up) up the specific areas you are looking to improve. As always, don't forget to eat clean! :D

I am naturally a bit smaller on top than on bottom - I overcome this with lots of cardio to burn fat all over (there's no other way! you can't target specific areas to burn fat, sadly...) and lots of upper body strength training to make my upper body appear larger than my lower body. Seems to work...lots of push ups, pull ups, weights, and other strength exercises do the trick. You can (and probably always should) do strength training on your lower body as well, just do a lesser weight so you are not bulking up.
