Belated 10/01 Veg Heads

Just a quickie here. I've been good at sticking with the veg eating, but I have been depending on cheese wayyy too much the last two weeks. I am slowly trying to wean myself off of all the dairy. I have been relying on it too much and when I start looking at the fat content and the cholesterol, it's a bit scary. I ordered the Uncheese Cookbook, so I am hoping to get some ideas there for some good alternatives when I get a cheese "snack attack". How are the rest of you gals doing??? Does anyone have a good humus recipe? I made some last night and while it didn't taste "bad", it wasn't worth the after taste that I still have today!!! I'm holding out faith that there is a better recipe out there though. ;)

Hey Liann: I have never made Hummis. I usually buy it, and my favorite brand is Sabra. Athenos isn't bad either. I get both of them at the supermarket. Sabra is good, they have one with Pine nuts that you mix in, and the garlic one has fresh garlic on top to mix in, the Roasted Red Pepper one you actually mix in the peppers. So, for me, buying it is the easiest and again, they taste pretty good.

I don't eat alot of cheese for the reasons you said... I buy the Kraft 2% American and 2%Swiss, and the Kraft Fat Free Mozzarella. Those are the only ones that are FF or LF that don't make me nauseous!!! My kids like the 2% Polly-O cheese sticks. So, I'm not much help in the cheese dept. I have just been sticking to fish and veggie burgers and cottage cheese, egg whites, PB ( of course) and protein powder.

Anyway, have a good day girls! Off to w/o.

Hanging in there. Went to the dentist yesterday and have been told I can incorporate "soft" foods into my diet. hooray!!
I had an egg white, spinach and feta cheese omelette for breakfast. It'll still be soup for lunch though.

Vicki - I will have to buy some because the stuff I made could honestly knock a man down! I sniffed it again this evening and phew... That stuff is going to have to go straight in the trash - what a waste!

Speaking of waste, I made my first recipe out of the "Uncheese Cookbook" and YUCK is all I can say. Believe it or not, I think I can fix it, it just didn't turn out well the first time. I made a "Vegan Mac & Cheese". The cheese was basically wallpaper paste with some nutritional yeast for color, lol... It was pretty bad. I think if I add almost twice the amount of soymilk that they call for, I might be ok though. What is scary is that the ingredients are basically the same as paper machete. I'm willing to give it another go though. I think the importance of "modifying" applies to cooking as well as exercising! ;)

NY25 - I'm glad to hear you can finally start to eat semi-solid foods again. What a pain! I remember when I had my wisdom teeth removed (all 4 at once), I couldn't eat anything solid for a long time. Lost some major weight which was a big plus though! ;) Hope you are feeling back to your pre-TMJ self soon!
