What tapes are available for a begining senior citizen who is quite overweight, but working to improve health and lose weight?:+

I forgot to say in my first post that I have stepped before, but not at the intensity as the Cathe tape that I got with my stepper (The Step). I enjoy steps, but I need something slower to learn the steps she uses. Otherwise, I have just been doing the moves I know using her music. I am 65 years old and workout daily with weight machines and cardio equipment.

Have you tried Step Heat or How To Get In Shape for your Wedding tapes? Both are great, they are fun, and the steps do not get too complex, and are repeated several times before introducing a new step pattern.

I am hesitant to order any mor of Cathe's tapes because the ones I have are so high intense and move so quickly. What I am looking for is more of an slower instructional movement tape. A tape that goes slow enough and repetitive enough to learn the moves before going on to stepping with the regular tapes. If you don't know the moves and have to watch the tapes, it is very difficult to learn her moves. I just end up doing the monotonous moves that I already know to the music on her tapes. I want to learn more moves. Slow and easy and repetitive so one can learn how to move.:+

I second the Wedding tape idea - lots of repetition and not so complicated moves - and a great weight workout on the same tape!

Cathe's tapes are pretty intense and fast. If you want something to learn on, try something by Gin Miller, Kathy Smith or Gilad to name a few instructors with easier workouts that people have liked. I haven't found much out there that is actually instructional. What we need is a variable speed switch on the DVD's...

You could check out reviews of different tapes at videofitness.com.

Good Luck!

Hi:

other instructors you could try to learn with include Karen Voight, Petra Kolber for Reebok, Gin Miller's Power Circuit might suit you nicely, the moves are athletic, you can vary the intensity depending on energy levels and fitness and it's very easy to learn. Try also Charlene Prickett. She's very straightforward, chatty and gets the job done. Keli Roberts is another good chcoice. These instructors would help you learn stepping basic moves and vocabulary and build a foundation of fitness. See 'www.collagevideo.com" for tapes by all these instructors and customer reviews. You can order a paper catalog from them also.

After that, I would reccomend Cathe's Step Heat as a beginning Cathe video.

Good to have you on the forums and best of luck. Let us know how you get on!
