Beg/Int Advice

Hi!

I am a newbie who is thrilled to hear about the upcoming Beg/Int workout releases. I am struggling with the decision of which DVD to purchase (DVD#1 or #2). Since I have to make workout equipment purchases, I can only buy one DVD to start out.

Which DVD would be the best fit for someone with two left feet and limited workout space?

All advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hi, Rex01! Welcome! What are you currently doing for your workouts and what equipment do you need? What are your goals? One workout is step only and the other, step and strength. If I had to chose one over the other, I'd probably go for the combo-more bang for your buck. One thing I do know is Cathe's workouts can be done in a tight space and these look very oriented to the step, although I don't know that for certain. Two left feet can be overcome also! Been there and done that! Eventually video clips will be most likely be available and they are very helpful for deciding. I'm a dinosaur when it comes to exercising but foot injuries have me quite excited about all the new workouts! Whatever you decide, be prepared to get addicted. Cathe's workouts are in a league of their own!

Hi Bobbi! Thanks for taking the time to repond to my post.

I have just started working out again. I have been doing pilates and have been using a circuit video. I am ready to step it up a notch though! My main goal is to be healthy. I want to improve my cardiovascular endurance and tone up.
As far as equipment goes, I am pretty much starting from scratch. I own an exercise mat and a set of 3lb dumbells.
I am glad to hear that Cathe's workouts can be done in a tight space. I have read wonderful reviews about her workouts and want to one day be able to enjoy working out with her advanced videos.

Take care!

Hi Rex01, welcome to the forum.:)

I say get the first DVD at least, if that is all you can afford right now with the equipment. Then get the second one later on, then the third, as you get more acclimated to Cathe's style.

This coming series is the first one that Cathe is doing for beginners and it's the only one that I can recommend to my friends who want a great workout. Well... that and Tamilee Web's I Want That Body. But I digress...

Eventually you will want to get heavier dumbbells, and you'll be wanting them SOON after you start with DVD #1 because Cathe's workouts really deliver. Good luck.:)

You've come to the right place! :) Cathe's workouts are superb and they cover everything you'll ever need. I got rid of all my other workouts and I use hers exclusively and I want for nothing when it comes to getting great results from my training. How long have you been out of the loop? I took an extended break too and started up again in October. I am in better shape than I have ever been and that's largely due to Cathe. The variety is wonderful and fun too!

Hi,
I am new to Cathe as well. I have been working out since Jan., mostly beach body tapes. I have completed the series with great results, but want to go farther. I saw Cathe on Fit TV and fell in love with her workouts, but they are on too late for me, so I decided I want to purchase some of her videos, but are not sure which ones to start with as well. I have been using 5, 8, and 10 lb dumbells in my workouts as well as doing cardio and alot of ab work. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks!
Denise:)

Hi Pinky!

Thanks so much for your input. I do appreciate it!!

Hi Bobbi!

In response to your question... I have been out of the loop for four years. (YIKES!!!!)

Thanks again!

Don't mention it, Rex01. Don't worry about being out of the loop for four years. As long as you're focused and consistent, you'll get all that strength and endurance back.:)

Hi Denise, welcome to the forum.:) Which Cathe tapes/DVD's you get depends on your goals. For strength, I use the Pure Strength series, Pyramids, Slow & Heavy and MIS. For endurance, Power Hour remains my fave, along with CTX-UB split and Muscle Endurance. For cardio, IMAX 2 remains my top workout. Also love the step workouts in Cardio Hits as well as all the cardio workouts in the CTX series. KPC is a great hit in this forum. Step Blast, too. Rhythmic Step is an all-time favorite, although I notice many have a love-hate relationship (including me) with this workout as it's challenging to master. Check out the clips before you buy, and you can always post questions about workouts you're interested in.:)

Thanks Pinky for your reply. I want to do cardio, strength, and endurance. I would like to build up my upper body alittle and slim and tone my lower half. What tapes do you think would be a good starter set for someone like me who has been working out and is ready to work hard! That power hour definately sounds like a good one!

:)

Hi, Denise! I am with Pinky on CTX. The cardio is fun and varied and the strength is awesome. I think it would be a great way to get started and you will work hard! The lower body workout is unbelievable! Step and Intervals and Power Circuit really rock and the strength work is very complete!

>I would like to build up my upper body alittle
>and slim and tone my lower half.

Hi Denise, those are MY exact goals. Except that I'd love to build up my upper body a LOT.:)

You won't go wrong with the Pure Strength series and the Pyramids DVD. I started with these for strength and added S&H later on. The Pyramid workouts are very fast paced, but you can always pause to stretch, rest and get more water between sets or pyramids. That's what I always do.

For endurance, I started with Power Hour and MIS then added ME later on. I know MIS is for strength training, but I go lower with the weights when I do it and do endurance style work with hardly any rests between exercises. Before the holidays last year I got to add the CTX series and actually got to love Leaner Legs and CTX-UB split better than MIS or ME. Still, I LOVE, LOVE PH. I credit PH for the cut between my anterior delts and biceps. And now I am starting to see veins running along these areas. I guess if I get my body fat down, they'll pop out even more. But clean eating has always been a great challenge for me.:)

For cardio, I started with Cardio Hits. I had been stepping for many years before that but was still very challenged by Cathe's choreography. But once you get it you'll be hooked. Oher great cardio workouts for me are IMAX 2, KPC and Step Blast.

I go as heavy as I can for upper body and go low (when doing endurance work) to moderate (when doing strength work) for lower body. Once I got my barbell up to 45 lbs. for lower body work, I started noticing bulk down there, so that's where I'm stopping. I'm bottom heavy and don't need any more flesh down there. I try to put in three cardio sessions a week for fat burning, but lately I'm not so into fat burning as much as I'm into strength and endurance training. And my knees are also an issue, so I'm trying to eat as clean as possible. I'm also making the switch from stepping to kickboxing. Those Tae Bo workouts in drill format are pretty much low impact and fit the bill for me. But I do miss stepping. Nothing beats the high that I get from it.:)

I'm rambling now. Good luck with whatever you choose. I know you'll love what you get.

Thank you again Pinky for the great advice. One other question. What rotation do you use for the week and how many days a week do you work out with how many rest days?

Denise:D

:D Thanks Pinky! That thread was a good one. The advice here is great and I really appreciate you taking the time out to give me some.:)
