Cathlete
Good morning~

Sabine, I'm with you on the workout schedule- I did PLB yesterday and added my own shoulders and abs section when I was done. My quads are feeling it today. I'm going to do Step Blast right now and get it over with- we have another snow day today...

Pinky, when's your company coming? (and how many are there??)

I'll check in later- I have a weeks worth of laundry to put away.

LoriHart, LoriSax, Joy, Tracy, Shywolf, hope all of you have a good day planned-

Brenda

Lori- quick question for you- I was going through the posts before I log off and I saw your comments re: Body for Life. What's the program? I've been doing the Zone which works really well for me but I've seen this before and was just curious. There are "days off" you can take? I've found I can't have a day that I don't really watch what I eat or else I'm setting myself up for a spiral downfall. (hence the fried chicken)
Could you explain the program just so I know what it is when I see it? thanks!!

Brenda

Good Morning All;

I just completed the entire Step Blast and whoa! the step challenge was just that... a challenge since I was sooo pooped from the other combos... she kinda lost me at first but I jumped in and did my best. I am literally dripping in sweat and I love how I feel right now. What a cardio w/o ...it was great! I'm pummped hahaha.

The kids have early dismissal today so I need to hit the shower and do some errands before picking them up today.

I have company coming in on Valentine's day, Valentine's Day! UGH!! I'm sorta upset about it because it's my FIL and BIL ..they just invite themselves and just throw it at us that they're coming. Don't even ask if we had special plans for that weekend x( ; plus my sub floor is still exposed. I hope that the kitchen floor is completed by then and the new carpet is installed too. I just can't stand it when they do this "Hey we're coming down" nonsense. I'm not ready for any company! Grrrrr

Brenda how did you do with Step blast today? I honestly think this was the 1st time I did the entire w/o.

Pinky- good luck with your company.

LoriHart, LoriSax, Joy and Tracy ...have a fantastic day and I'll pop in later on tonight to see how you all are doing too.

Ta-ta for now:)

Hello everybody,
Well I did some catching up on my reading.

Brenda, I would very much like to do a weight week/cardio week. This is definately my weight week. I'm thinking I could use a real cardio blast. I'm thinking that I may do something like this: Intense step workout, Hi/Lo - not so intense, Total body weight, easier step, kickbox, intense hi/lo, rest.

Sabine, I like your rotation because of alternating cardio styles and putting an interval workout in each week.

My eating has been good and the scale is not budging. However, on a positive note, I don't feel bloated and my pants are fitting a little better. Maybe it takes time for the loss to catch up...

Now about diets. I'm all about that spiral downward thing and falling off the wagon - especially when it comes to desserts. I've done a lot of dieting in my many adult years and I've come to the conclusion that 1. calories count 2. Its okay to eat carbs OR its okay to eat fats BUT IT IS NOT OKAY TO EAT THEM TOGETHER!

Take desserts for example. They aren't just sugar. They are sugar and fat. So Atkins works, zone works SB diet works and low fat works. I also believe that 'food issues' are taught at a very early age and very hard to overcome. One must alway be vigilant!!!I have no scientific basis, just personal observation.

Enough of that now.
LoriS, I've been curious about slim series, but I just won't purchase from beach body after all the trouble people have had. Also, some people think the workouts are really boring. I haven't been able to trade for them either. I also get confused about slim series v slim in 6.

ShyWolf I too need to use my bb dvd's. I have hardly done SS or PP since I got the dvds. I don't even know if I have a problem at the 23' mark like others were talking about. I think there is such a learning curve on these that I don't want to concentrate on that just now.

LoriH you ran for an hour!!! my legs would give out (even if my knees didn't) Also, about people who are hostile to exercisers, I just figure that they feel inferior so they want to put you down. I encounter this at work alot. One person, who I thought was a friend, makes ridiculous comments that are definately designed to put me down. I've come to the point where I pity her. And mostly I ignore her comments and don't respond. (I guess she becomes a non-entity to me when she behaves that way) There seems to be nothing to be done for these types (oh btw, she is a smoker who has a zillion excuses for why she doesn't quit...)

Pinky & Tracy good luck with the company. I am fortunate that I have a family that is supportive. They actually understand to some degree even if they don't wish to participate.

I hope I remembered everyone, even if I haven't remembered everything.

Hi SW,
I was typing while you were posting. Yea isn't Step Blast fun? And I agree that BLast section will BLAST ya. I think the third combo is the hardest but the most fun.

Well this must be 'eveyone is having company' month. Sorry. I get some next month, but only for two nights and I'm really looking forward to it.

Hi ladies, hope all of you are doing well today.

Brenda, I browsed through the South Beach Diet book once and found out that it's very similar to the Zone. I think it also allows you a cheat day, so you may also want to check it out. I totally understand your need to indulge. Just recently I asked my husband why the good things in life are almost always bad for you. Good things like cheesecake, ice cream, cinnamon rolls, pecan tarts... Egg whites, protein powder, oatmeal, low glycemic fruits and veggies... they get old FAST.:)

ShyWolf, congratulations on doing Step Blast.:) (Wish there were a smiley here with confetti and a party hat.) It's a tough one to follow, especially that third combo -- and then you have three more blasts after a challenge. Everytime Cathe says, "Can you still feel your body at this point?" I always yell back, "Of course NOT! Do you have to ask?":)

Joy, I know I've come across your theory of not eating carbs and fats together, but to the best of my recollection, it was carbs in the form of SUGAR that shouldn't be eaten with FAT. That's why pastries, chocolate and ice cream are "bad". I'm pretty good during the week, when my family has a fixed routine. It's easy to get my own clean eating into it. BUT it's the weekends that are really hard. Last weekend we went Mexican. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich but it came smothered with cheese and bacon, which I scraped off. I ate only the chicken, the tomato and lettuce that came with it, and half the bun. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I was so tempted to eat the whole thing. All I could think about was all the hours I've put into melting the extra flab. It IS incredibly hard. As I said, clean eating can get old real fast.

Well, my company's coming on the 15th. There will be three people, as far as I know. My husband's mother, sister and niece. It's the sister I am most allergic to. Even my own family, during our church wedding, has sensed her hostility towards me. She never talks to me and always looks at me as though I've done her a grave injustice by marrying her brother. Thankfully, the father won't be here. The last time he was here, he told me pointblank that he thinks I married his son only for his money. I don't know where he got that idea. When I married my husband, he was neck-deep in debt (grad school tuition and a bunch of credit cards) and I was the one who was working. I was the one who got us started with an apartment and some furniture. Anyway, my mind's made up. They invited themselves to my home so they better behave. There is as much of a limit to civility as there is to love (for my other half).

Joy, don't apologize for looking forward to your company.:) I do look forward to MY family's visits. They're very supportive of me. The only workout-related thing my mother says is: Please don't get man arms... Other than that she's pretty thrilled I'm stronger. We both have scoliosis.

Hellos to Sabine, Lorihart, Lorisax, Stacy-MN.

Have a good day everyone,
Pinky

Hi everyone!!!! Kinda have a headache today. My dad is having a heart cath done today, and if there is a blockage they are going to put a stint in. So, in a few I will be heading up to the hospital. He had a heart attack and a triple bypass at 43, now he is 60. This is the third or fourth stint he has had in in two years. It doesn't matter what the poor guy does, his arteries clog.

The Slim Series is tougher that Slim In 6, from what I have heard. I do not have Slim in 6, nor have I done them. They are all light weights, high reps. I go higher on the weights to give myself more of a workout. Many people on Ya-Ya's have had good results with them. I like to do them once in awhile, just something different. They are not Cathe, but still pleasant. I certainly work up a good sweat.

Brenda, did you ask about BFL?? I know you were asking the other Lori, but I do know about it too. Six days a week, you eat 6 mini meals a day. A portion of carbs, and a portion of protein. One day a week, you take a free day and do not excercise, and eat whatever you want. You do interval training 3 days a week for cardio, he has his own special plan, and you do a weight program he has laid out, it is kinda like the Pyramids. I did it once. I was in probably the best shape of my life. I am getting there again. It is to hard for me to be undisciplined one day, and then be pick back up the next day when you felt terrible, and were bloated. He has very good info in the book though. It is a good read.

Well, talk to everyone later!!!!
Lori

It's a wet and rainy Tuesday in my neck of the woods.

Today I ventured off and tried an older Kari Anderson video, Fitness Formula, that a woman so generously gave to me so I could get a better sense of Kari and her style. Well, the step video is a solid intermediate workout and not much to write home about. Pretty basic stuff. I did like that this video had an ab/back segment at the end of it and let me tell you, Kari's ab work was tough! She did a lot with a slow count so I really felt the abs contracting and burning. This is definitely good for a 'light' day workout and will probably come in handy next week after my oral surgery (UGHx( ).

I feel for those of you who are having company coming to stay with you. For me it kind of throws everything slightly off, even if it's company I am excited to have and is supportive of me continuing my routines (workout and otherwise). It becomes even more challenging to have a positive attitude when it's unexpected/uninvited and not company that makes you feel good. So feel free to come here and vent away if you need to. I've got your back!

Congratulations to those who did Step Blast. I've only done this one once and was spent by the time the blasts came around at the end. I remember doing the 3 combos combined and then just marching during the blasts. My goal is to do the blasts before the end of the year (very attainable, I think).

Big hellos to Brenda, Joy, Lorisax, Lorihart, Tracy, Shywolf and Pinky!

Shywolf, I hear you! I just finished showering after doing SB and I always forget that there are 3 blasts- after the second, when Cathe says "we're not done yet" I kick myself for not mentally preparing to go through it AGAIN. It is a great feeling when its finished though. Nice job!!

Lori, what's the name of the book re: BFL? I'm pretty happy with the Zone and it scares me to have a day off- I'm afraid I'd be out of control on that day. Pinky, I was trying to see the differences between the Zone and SBD- do you know?

I've finally gotten used to my father and his wife inviting themselves to our house- its gotten much better now that he spends more time with the kids and less time treating me like I'm 16. Somehow, I think he will always think of me that way no matter how old I am or how many kids I have. Guess that's whole other can of worms...

Brenda, I may have been wrong about SBD allowing a cheat day. I do know its food choices are very similar to the Zone, and it does have an induction period of 2 weeks where you eat no starchy carbs. The Zone has this, too, but Barry Sears didn't really make a point of it. I discovered this only the second time I read his book.

Check out this link: http://www.prevention.com/cda/feature2002/0,4780,5345,00.html

It's a brief overview of SBD. I hope this helps.

Hi Everyone,
Looks like everyone is on a roll today, lots of checking in going on.
Brenda-The free day was a big downfall.Perfect for people who can fall dwon and then get back up but I am the kind of person who falls down and cries for a while:) I found it hard to get back on track and I didn't make it past the 3rd week.I did see results in just those 2 weeks though.I would love to try it again but I am not in the mood right now.
Joy-My sister in law also use to have a very poor attitude towards my exercsing but she was the first to brag about me when we were anywhere and someone would comment on how small I was.Even my in laws do it.Just the other night my mother in law told me to take some candy home, they had company there and one lady says, how can she stay so small and eat that stuff. And she says, yeah but she runs everyday! Its funny b/c I called a girl I knew today. She works out all the time and loves to talk about it.I asked her what was new and she went in to full detail of her workout schedule...I don't mind talking about it but she went on,and on.There wasn't even a chance for me to get a word in.I think people like that are the ones who make it bad for the rest of us who just like to share tips and chat BUT she wants to write a book.In her defense though, she can go on and on about anything.:)
I did another run again today. It ended up being around 65 min.I plan on doing a leg workout tonight.
I did PUB yesterday and my chest and biceps are so sore:eek: That one really puts the burn in there!
Tomorrow is going to be Imax2 and a 50 min run.A 5 min run after each interval.
Anyway,I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their day.
Lori:)

Hello to everyone! I finally have a moment to myself - the in-laws are in bed, and the kids are too. And, believe it or not, my husband is out of town for work while I am home alone with his parents!!! This happens every time the come to visit (I think he plans it!).

So, my workout for the past four days have been completely non-existent. My husband and FIL started a major renovation down in our basement - the part where I workout. When I checked earlier today, I couldn't even find my weights. I am slightly annoyed about that, although I know in the long run this is going to be a great addition to our living space. I need to keep focused on the fact that missing a few days of working out is not going to kill me, and I should be happy that they are doing all of this work. I did tell my husband that I absolutely had to w/o tomorrow or I was going to bust, so I think I will clear some space and do KPC since it doesn't need any equipment (my step has been turned into a workbench!)

Anyone have any other suggestions for equipment-less workouts? I figured I would do Cardio Kicks and KPC for the next couple of days.

Hope everyone is healthy and feeling strong.
Tracy
