BE HONEST - How much do you spend on clothes a year??

I am curious - my hubby tends to be a little penny pincher in this department and it drives me nuts.....

I would say between shoes/pants/tops/pjs/jeans/lingerie ect... I only spend about $1200 a year and $200 of that is definitely in tennis shoes!!!

I don't think that is much at all - but maybe that is me. I buy all my going out tops on sale and they have to be under $15 or I don't buy them.......one pair of jeans a year....one new black pant....ect.....I am super boring lately

BUT - we are doing ok/normal financially and i just think that he is dang lucky I don't spend more on clothes then I do??

Do you REALLY wanna know how much a teenage girl spends on clothes?? Ok, if you say soo:7 Anywhere from 1500-1600 a year}( Not kidding!!!!!!

I'd say $500 or so at the most, and the bulk of that is usually new bras and exercise clothes and shoes, all of which tend to be expensive.

Reba, I'm similar to you. Maybe I spend $1500 per year or so on clothes and shoes, if that. I don't like shopping for clothes and I don't have much time for it. Most of all, I have to save my money for dining out. That's where I tend to lose all control. :(

ETA: My figure includes jewelry too! I don't like jewelry much.

LOL Shelly!! Your EXACTLEY right;-)

A couple thousand, easy, but I have one of those jobs that requires suiting, so...

ETA, I just realized I buy so much probably because I am never the same size from year to year, lol! Last year I was a 2-4. This year I am a 6-8... sigh. (Only for the moment, though!) :7

Looking at my clothes lately, I don't spend near enough. I'm close to the $500 mark probably. I need to be on one of those shows like, "What not to wear". LOL!

I have spent a lot this year. I don't know exactly how much though. I went from a size 8/10 down to a 2. When I was a size 6 I thought I would plateau there since I was never smaller than that even in high school. Boy, was I wrong. So...I bought 2 new wardrobes in the past 3 months! I'm hitting up the consignment stores though for sure.

OMG! I'm not even gonna try to guestimate, but I have this weakness for couture & last year alone I bought like 7 shirts that were $250+.

Crap, I bet I spend $3K+ on shoes alone........

Bear in mind, I'm single, make a decent living & don't have to spend money on anything associated w/children.........;-)

I spend about $1200 a year. I usually shop(online only)in the fall and spring. This doesn't include gym shoes. DH thinks I spend too much too. Before I buy, I do spend time trying to "weed out" clothes I consider ordering but don't absolutely love. This makes him feel a bit better about my shopping. ;-)

ETA: I rarely buy shoes so I save him a lot of money on those! I keep telling him how lucky he is that I don't like shoes! He doesn't believe me though. :*

Damn you!

That is so fun to hear different responses.....I would definitely say teens spend ALOT - - when you think about it though - -

Jeans $75-100 a pair
Tennis Shoes $80 a pair (at least 2-3 pairs per year)
Black Pants/Brown pants $75 a pair
I go through a pair of brown and black shoes each year - I wear shoes until they break! $50 pair avg??
Jackets/Blazers/Button downs??
Winter coats/Spring jackets/new winter gloves/scarves/purses??
Swim suit??
Dresses for weddings??

It adds up quick!

My hubby would put me in the doghouse too if I spent $250 on a shirt - LOL - I envy you Laura!!!

Like I said he is dang lucky I don't spend much more - Target and TJMAX is a staple for me....

LOL at Shelley and Laura. Laura, would you like a 51 year old daughter? I think I may spend about $600 a year on clothes and shoes. I'm sure I'm underestimating, but $1,000 seems pretty high, and it has to be more than $500 if you include workout clothing and shoes. I wear uniform pants and tee shirts to work, so I don't spend much there.

On myself, or on my family? Because on myself I probably only spend $500, I don't spend much. But on my family combined I would say I spend about $1200 or more. it's really hard to guess because I buy in small amounts most of the time. The only one that I buy large quantities of clothing for is my son. Once in the fall, and once in the spring time. Otherwise I'll pick him up a shirt, or some jeans. DH, I usually just get him a pair of jeans every now and then, same thing with shirts. On myself, I only buy clothing if I REALLY need it. I don't have a job that requires me to wear a suit, or get dresssed up, ever. So, if I'm going out for a night with the girls and I have lost weight or gained weight and don't fit into what I would like to. Then I'll buy an outfit. But most of the time I try not to spend money on myself. That's just the way I am though, I would rather buy things for other people than for myself. It makes me feel better.

Robin, I don't want any daughters, then I'd have to spend my money on them instead of me. :p (OK this is actually not true--my greatest regret in life is no kids, but those are the cards life has dealt me & I make up for it by spoiling my dogs & myself).

Yeah ummm my ex-hubby had issues w/my wardrobe. But of course it was just fine if he wanted to go out & buy a new $500 computer accessory, or a new heavy bag, or a new riding mower. x(

I would say probably $300-$500 per year. Clothes and shoes are not what I want to spend my money on. That is why I don't buy trendy stuff. They go out of fashion so quickly and then I feel like I've not gotten my money's worth out of them. It's actually pretty sad, I would rather spend some of our extra money on buying my kids (4 & 1 year olds) clothes instead.

We are doing good financially too. For the most part we spend our extra money on things we would like to have around the house. My DH is very lucky I am not high maintenance and would rather save money than spend it.
