Sandhiker inspired me to think about a barbell set. I've been doing Cathe since 1995 with only dumb bells.
My shoulders are starting to get sore with 2 15# pound db on them for squats. I don't get the benefit of my upper back to help support that way.
We don't have the store menioned by Sand...
Any other good places to get a barbell set? I live in upstate NY

LAST EDITED ON Dec-31-02 AT 08:54AM (Est)[p]I don't know which store Sandhiker referred you to. So, I'm going to suggest Sports Authority or D(ick's) Sporting Goods (this software won't allow the d followed by ick because it spells a bad word--I've tried it). You might also try WalMart or Target. I've seen weights in both of them. And finally look at Switchboard.com & type in exercise equipment in the yellow pages section. That should help.

You won't be sorry you invested in a barbell. Don't waste your money on a bar pad at the sporting goods stores. Go to Home Depot & get a pipe insulator from the plumbing section. They are almost as soft & MUCH cheaper!

Came back to say that Sports Authority & the other have their barbells priced at about $40 for the 110 lb set.

I'd think you should be able to find a set at any sporting goods store. I found mine at Dunham's Sports.

Judy,
I am in upstate NY also (Binghamton area). I have an old barbell set I inherited from my sister, but I have seen them at D ick's, Target, and WalMart. You could also order online, but then you have to pay for shipping.
