Barbells & Question

I know that most of Cathe's scultping DVDs require barbells. Unfortunately I don't have access to barbells. Is there a way I can modify using heavy dumbells?

I have mastered "Cardio & Weights" and "Low Max". I love both of them. Any suggestions as to what I should try next? I'd like a complete step workout and I'd like a workout with weights.

Thanks,
Mary

Hi Mary,

Yes, for most of the exercises, you can use dumbells in place of a barbell.

For a complete step workout, I suggest Step blast (one of my favorites), Rhythmic step ou for more of a challenge, one of the Imaxes.

You can substitute heavy weights for the barbell work. For example, I used to hold heavy dumbells on my shoulders for the squats and lunges when she used the barbell. Same thing with chest press and bicep curls.

I love Body Max 2. It has everything, step, weights, abs. It is 90 minutes, but I usually do the premixes. The premixes are great. It is like getting 5 workouts on one dvd. I also love Low Impact Circuit. If you prefer low impact, this might be the better choice.

For weights I love Supersets and Muscle Endurance. Both are great workouts. I do SS on days when I am short on time and ME when I really want to push myself.

Hope that helps!

I was modifying using dumbbells as well but I recently purchased a 2nd hand set of barbell & weights for $20!! It's an old set but still in good shape. I got the long barbell and 2 dumbell size bars and 120lbs worth of weight plates. I found using dumbells was ok but because I have one arm stronger then the other, they always seemed uneven to me while doing certain exercises. The barbell works much better for me. Keep your eye out for a 2nd hand set!!
Low Impact Circuit is a great workout with a little bit of everything!!!
