If not including the weight of the bar is what works for you, that's fine, but if that is what you are doing, then you are actually lifting more weight.
The Troy Lite Bar weighs five pounds, and Cathe includes it when figuring out what weights to add.
Depending on the bar you own, the bar can weigh as much as 40 pounds. (this is why it looks like the guys are lifting lighter then the gals in the STS videos).
