Barbara Boxer

Prior to his current post, Walsh served as Commander for the Army Corp of Engineer's Gulf Division in Baghdad. That IS a dangerous job.

Really? How so? Last I heard they were responsible for building/rebuilding infrastructure & have absolutely nothing to do w/combat. Which means he's essentially in an army compound or on a construction site. Which means he's basically in no more danger than the average ABC international correspondent.

Oh, except he's driving around in a tank & has guns.

Laura, why is the danger thing relevant? Being in the military is dangerous, at least potentially. Being in Iraq is dangerous--for soldiers, civilians, and journalists, more so for some than others, but it's also a matter of wrong place/wrong time.

I would have posted this had it been Kay Bayley~Hutchinson. Just sayin . . .

Tehehe, yeah, I believe that but she is a moderate, like Powell and Bloomberg :p

But where were you when Congressman Jack Kingston of Savannah said that instead of raising the minimum wage people should marry and just work longer hours, that would get them out of poverty. And then a week later he complained about Congress' new schedule which requires them to work 5 days a week (GASP). Quote:

“Keeping us up here eats away at families,” said Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), who typically flies home on Thursdays and returns to Washington on Tuesdays. “Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families — that’s what this says.”

But I guess Sen. Boxer being cranky and wanting to get called Senator instead of ma'am is a much bigger offense.

And I would have said the same if it was a Democrat who said what Congressman Kingston said. Just sayin' :p

Most do fly home on Thursdays and do not return until Monday or Tuesday. I was a flight attendant and flew out of Raegan every week and had many on board. They all do that - does not matter which side of the aisle.

Yeah really - what does that have to do with the price of beer in Germany?

BEER - FRIDAY - I'M GERMAN (1/4 anyway) = YEAH!

I can't stand Barbara Boxer and I think there are other names that are more fitting than Senator.

Got that right . . "Excuse me your Supreme Highness Senator Ma'am - you power hungry wench"

What an incredibly sexist comment. Would you say that about a male Senator? Why are people always so ready to say such things about women in power but take it for granted in men?

I am just wondering what happened. It was only a small part of the conversation, was she ticked off by something he said before?

I agree that it could well be distorted by being out of context. If he addressed the male senators as 'senator,' but refers to her as 'ma'am,' I understand her being peeved.

Correction, the work schedule for Congressmen and Senators was changed under the Democrats so that they do have to work 5 days a week like the rest of us, rightfully so. Congressman Kingston complained about that and wanted it changed, claiming that Democrats are anti-family values.

I figured that you would find nothing wrong with a Republican telling ordinary folks that they shouldn't complain about minimum wage and instead work longer hours whereas he is against himself working longer hours or days because his "family / marriage suffer". How about those people's families and marriages that he advises to quit moaning and work instead?

But boy, if this had been a Democrat, you'd be jumping all over him/her.

This is my issue with your posts, it's not the fact that you have a different opinion. It's the personal insults to people who believe differently than you do.

I have to echo that. I tried very hard to make amends, but it's been an exercise in futility. I admit to replying on political threads (although I've never started one, FOR GOOD REASON!!!), but I try to keep it light, & I try not to offend. As I've said before, I have lots of conservative friends. We have lively, fun debates & we never bring it down to this level.

First of all - I never said that I found nothing wrong with what he said. I agree with you on this issue. But for real - they all talk out of both sides of their mouths. Please - this is NOT a partisan issue. Every min. wage increase that has happened I have SUPPORTED and told my reps as much. Don't assume Carola.

And the personal insult was directed at B. Boxer herself - no one else on this forum. Nice try twisting it all around. Typical. Good Grief.

At least Lauramax posts some fun stuff from time to time - as do I.

I posted something that I found very interesting. Just like someone else did earlier in the week about health care/Rush Limbaugh, Jon and Kate plus 8, Obesity, Housewives of NJ and where ever else, WW, STS - whatever . . . .

Yep, I agree Carola and Laura. Name calling like that is immature and uncalled-for. I mean, "power hungry wench"? Really?!?

LM - I have no beef with you. I thought our last contact was a very good one. You even admitted that you have a mouth from time to time and that we seem to have the same taste in certain areas of our lives and that politics should not interfere. I still hold true to that. Sorry if this has changed with you.

We must have been posting at the same time as above.

Well, I am sorry I am too serious for you.

I am not twisting anything. It doesn't matter if your personal insult is towards anyone on this forum or Barbara Boxer, Michael Moore, or whoever you disagree with. It's a personal insult and name calling directed at someone who believes differently than you and I just find it uncalled for. That's all!

I'm just curious - you have never ever done that in your life?

Carola, I don't think you're too serious. I think you're intelligent, thoughtful & deliberative. And respectful of others. Someday we'll meet in betw. AZ & NJ & have a meal & a glass of wine. I bet you'll make me laugh at least once. :)
