banslug/Gayle tell me about your routine

Gayle,
Thanks for writing back so fast! Your response has talked me down from the cliff a bit :)

I have had an eating disorder in the past, and purposely hadn't tried to restrict myself too much in that department, for fear of re-triggering that mindset. I eat well, just a bit too much. And in looking back over my workouts, I can plainly see that I have NOT been consistant. It's right there in black and white. I'd work out 5 times one week, and 3 the next; 6 times the other, and twice while on travel. There it is. Lact of consistency.

I hope you're not embarrassed, but you've been a big inspiration, and the kick-in-the-pants that I needed today. I was just on the phone to my sister saying "she's a real person, it's not some fake thing on the BFL website, she posts on Cathe, those are her real results!!!" :p

By the by, I looked at your progress chart, and saw you dropped 10 pounds in the first 2 weeks!! Wowie! Great job!

Lisa, honestly, I AM a bit embarrassed! lol But you know what? There were people in my shoes when I was just starting out, and now that person is ME! I would LOVE to be able to help others take control of their health, so if I've talked you down from the cliff, then today has been a success ALREADY! HA!

I did exactly what you did...look back at the past 2 years' worth of workout logs. And the INconsistancy (I'm not sure I'm spelling that work right, lol) is what shows everytime. But for me, my eating had been SOOOOOO VERY sporadic that that was really hurting my efforts the MOST!

I actually just NOW got done writing today's journal entry about what I WILL BE DOING (not what I WANT to do) over the NEXT 12 weeks.

Thanks again, Lisa, for asking for MY advice!

Gayle

p.s. And yes....I'm a real life person with real life struggles!

Encouragement and Check-in

In addition to being a real woman with real struggles, Gayle is a dear friend and tremendous encourager. Some people get puffed up with pride when they become a success story. Not our Gayle! She is very compassionate and encouraging and never talks down on people who still struggle. When one of her friends stumbles and falls, she is right there by your side to help you dust yourself off and get back in the race. Gayle is definitely someone I count among my blessings. Her positive can-do attitude is inspiring.

Gayle, have you ever considered a career as a life coach or personal trainer? I believe you would make a great one, my friend!

Lisa, I am starting a 12-week challenge on New Year’s Eve (to kick off an 18-week group challenge). If you are interested in a check-in, let me know. I too have a history of eating disorders and want to learn to bless my body without obsessing over food. I am an all-or-nothing girl and tend to go to extremes. I am not doing Body for Life by the way. I am planning to use Cathe’s 4-Day Split plus extra cardio for my workouts and return to a plant-based way of eating every 4 hours (3 meals and a snack). Force feeding myself 6 times a day when I am not hungry and eating a lot of animal protein is not good for me and a full cheat day every week does not work for me either.

P.S. I am ready to rock the next challenge with you.

Blessings,
Heather B.

RE: Encouragement and Check-in

Gayle -

Your pictures are absolutely incredible! Way to go! I have the BFL book and wasn't able to stick to it (I get bored very easily and need my Cathe telling me what to do) but your pictures have me thinking of giving it a go again.

I was so impressed by your legs as that is my trouble area. Can I ask what you were doing, exercise and weight?

Wow!!!...again!

RE: Encouragement and Check-in

where did you see the pictures? are there ones from the beginning of the challenge and at the end?

RE: Encouragement and Check-in

THANKS, everybody!

RGI-for the first 5-6 weeks, I was doing straight BFL weight work, and my leg workouts included HEAVY HEAVY squats, Bulgarian squats (these are my all time FAVE...they're basically a static lunge with your back foot up on a high step or bench), deadlifts (second favorite to kick my booty), leg extensions on my weight bench. The second half of my 12 week challenge, I added in Cathe's PLB and used a barbell with 40/50/60/50/40, doing bulgarian squats in place of her static lunges and I added on leg extensions on my weight bench (while using the deadlift chapter for the up/down count...does that make sense?).

My legs were the last thing to really come around and start toning, and they still need some work. But I'm very happy with my 12 weeks, and SOOOO looking forward to the NEXT challenge, which begins next week.

THANKS AGAIN, everybody, for embarassing me so much!

Heather, you make being on the team SO WORTH IT!

Gayle

RE: Encouragement and Check-in

Heather,
Absolutely, I'd love a check-in! And, I'm also a lacto-ovo-vegetarian, have been for almost 30 years, so if you need any tips or recipes, I'll do what I can :)

I haven't decided what rotation I'm going to do...I don't have 4Ds, but I have a lot of others. In the past, FIRM circuit-style peeled off the fact, but then I plateaued, and now frankly the FIRM bores me, and I stick with Cathe.

See what you started Gayle?! :7

RE: Encouragement and Check-in

Gayle

You look incredible! You should be very proud of yourself and certainly not embarrassed about it. That's a lot of hard work....and you did it! You are in inspiration. I will have to look up that book. Great job girl!!!:)

RE: Encouragement and Check-in

Gayle -

Thanks for sharing your routine. Quick question...would you have thought before BFL that your legs would bulk easily? I have this (mis)conception that mine do and so I'm always afraid to go heavy-heavy, and just wondering if you had the same thinking.

Once again, incredible work! You definitely deserve all the compliments you're getting!

RE: Encouragement and Check-in

Me again! I might have missed it in the previous posts, but could you post a little bit of what you ate. It's always cool to hear the details about that too!:) I haven't had a chance to check out the BFL website. Again, Good Job!!!

RE: Encouragement and Check-in

Hey guys. Thanks for your continued support and enthusiasm for my success. Here's what I'm going to do, so that this individual thread doesn't keep popping up to the top of the list (lol) and annoying anybody! I really didn't expect feedback and attention like this...I am so humbled by it all! (thanks)

When I get a chance later this week (in other words, when things settle down from today's CRAZINESS, lol), I'm going to make a new post over on the Success Stories forum. I will give an over-view of everything I did during my 12 week challenge. I promise that I will also answer the question about my concern over my legs (yes, RGI, I did indeed worry about bulking), my nutrition and my workouts, etc.

Does that sound good? This way, I get to answer your questions (thanks, btw, for asking ME) and some info on what I did to get the results I did. OK???

Give me a few days, though, maybe by Friday I'll have the post up there, ok????

THANKS AGAIN!

Gayle
