Baker's Cysts Anyone?

I think I've self-diagnosed myself as having Baker's Cysts as a result of arthritis. Anyone else have these and what did you do for it?
Thanks,
Brenda

Are you talking about the fluid filled cysts on the wrist?
If so i have one and i just keep pressing it down flat. I had another and i broke it and it went away.
Eventually this one will too..
Doc said cut it out and i say no way so i just keep pushing on it.

No, this is a fluid filled cyst right in the fold behind the knee. The internet said to practice RICE with it but what I'm really wondering is for how long?

Anne - I had one of those cysts in my wrist. I think it is called a ganglion (not sure of the spelling though). My doctor didn't give me any alternatives other than surgery. I had that done back when I was 16. It came back a few years later when I was in college but eventually went away on it's own. Wish I had told my doc no way! Now I have a lovely scar to show off. :(

I have no personal experience with these, but I used to work in high tech and had friends with these in their wrists. A couple of them had grew weary of the inflammation associated with theirs and opted to have cortisone shots. The cysts shrank (one temporarily, the other permanently), but the downside is you can only have a few of these shots in a joint during your lifetime (something about cumulative side effects - I'm not expert and don't remember why).

Good luck ...

I've read about them (and I have onethough not painful, behind one knee, that a chiropractor diagnosed, ).

According to what I've read, you can have surgery or cortisone to temporarily reduce them, but if the cause of the cyst isn't removed, they will continue to come back. On the other hand, if the cause of the cyst is removed, it will often shrink on its own.
