bad shoulder

Hi,

I have a question for anyone who may have knowledge on this subject. I gave birth 9 months ago to a wonderful 9lb. baby boy, during labor I herniated a disc in my back and had almost no range of motion with my left arm. I later found out that the disc that I damaged affected my shoulder. I have been training my shoulders and have gained a lot more strength.(I still can not do any over head press with more than 3lbs.) I was definately much stronger prior to this injury..anyway has anyone heard of someone with this type of injury and if so is there anything they may have done to help repair the damage. Thank you!!!

Mary

Hi,
Talk to your doctor and have him recommend a PT that can help you recover from this injury. I was born with bilateral cervical ribs (extra small ribs in cervical region of my neck) which cause compression of my brachial plexus and artery and nerve. This causes weakness and pain in my shoulder girdle and has made it impossible to build up muscle at the top of my back and top back of shoulders. I have found that stretching exercises and building strength in muscles surrounding the affected areas has helped with the pain and weakness.
Good luck.

Mary--I'm really sorry to hear about your injury--shoulder injuries are the most difficult to recover from. I know a lot of people who've had them & have never regained 100% of strength or motion.

But you should definitely check w/your dr. to see what the best PT would be for recovery.
