bad knees

Hi Cathe,

I recently had some problems with my knee and after further evaluation, I can no longer use the step. I have many of your step dvds and will greatly miss doing them. Is there a benefit to doing some of the routines without the step. I also pre-ordered the x-train series, will I be able to do the routines. How many of the routines use the step in them. Any info would be helpful.

I also have knee problems after having two arthoscopies on my left knee and one on my right knee. I love my Cathe step, so whilst I was recovering I did my cathe dvds without the step. Same routines just no step and no jumping etc. I found I got just as much of a workout and sweat without the step. Obviously always listen to your body and go with doctors advice. But as soon as you can modify. I think Cathes dvds can be greatly modified either using no weight for lower body and no step for 'step aerobics'. I wanted to enjoy my workouts but without causing any pain or damage. Anything is possible.

But again listen to your body and get the correct medical advice. Some movement is better than being slumped on the couch feeling fed up.

I find I have trouble with choreography on the step due to my knees, but I'm fine doing drills and straightforward moves on it. Would it be possible to use just the 4 inch platform? That way you are still doing step, but it's much easier on the knees. I find it's mostly the choreography with the pivots and turns that gives me trouble. Impact does cause trouble if it's jarring and quick with too high of a step. Good luck! Sometimes it just takes some experimenting to figure out what you can and can't do. :)
 
I don't think there's much step...if I remember correctly, SMN said that the step is used in Tabatacize as a short seque between the tabata and the rest period, because Cathe didn't want our heart rates to fall too rapidly after the Tabata. I'm sure you could substitute another move and not use the step.

I don't recall SNM indicating that there are actualy step routines. Oh, and I think they said the step is used in the strength training DVDs, but obviously not in a way that you're talking about here.

Hello all

I have a serious problem with my right knee, and I wear a McDavid knee brace. These braces are wonderful.You can get a McDavid knee brace on ebay cheaper. I can jump on the step, and I can also do hi lo aerobics. I have found that making your quads very strong can help.
