I honestly do not think it works all that well. The weights end up sitting on the inside of the rack handles. Here is a picture of my bench. The main bar you see is a 7' bar. If you look at the other bar that I have draped on the back safety handles though you can see that the weights end up on the inside. My troy lite (5') bar is even smaller than that second bar (6') and it just doesn't fit good. One person suggested buying two sets of clips, so you could make your weights stay towards the tips of your bar and fit on the rack. You wouldn't be able to have much weight on there though. I ended up springing for the 7' barbell. It was $49 shipped from a guy on ebay. I still use my troy light for standing work.

Hi Liann,

I am thinking of buying this bench. It's looks well built for the dollar amount you pay for it. Could you please let me know the height of the bench when laying flat? I contacted the company, but they said the manufacturer would be who I would need to get this info from; and they were not of any help either. I need to know the height of the bench before I buy it, because I want to replace the bench that is with our universal gym we have in our workout room now.

TIA

Dianne

Dianne,

Here are some measurements for you:

The actual bench that you sit on is 21" high in the flat position. The leg attachment section is 3" higher than the bench at 24" (that's without the preacher pad attachment which I do not have on right now). It is 72" long in the flat position including the leg attachment.

If you are interested in the measurements for the actual squat rack: From the floor to the top tip of the barbell holder, it is 46" at the lowest setting. At the highest setting, it is 62.5". The rack is 47.5" wide and 33" deep.

Hope that helps!!!

Hi Liann,

Thanks so much for posting the photo and all that great info! :)

It sounds like it won't work with my new Troy Lite (which should be here tomorrow -- hooray!), so I'll think about getting the portable stands instead.

No prob! ;)

Hey you all...I have changed my mind on the Troy working well with the Gold's Gym set-up now that I have used it several times. Reason being...it works fine sitting on the rack ONCE it is loaded, BUT trying to change the weights when they are on the INSIDE of the holder is tricky! I was having to lift one side up at a time to load them and was kind of nervous about it falling off. Plus, like Liann said, you can't load a LOT of weight on the inside. Here is a pic of what it looks like with plates on the INSIDE...

Does that make sense?
I am definitely going to have to pick up a longer bar. Darn!

Ha! Catherine, you are soo right! Actually, I AM lifting heavier these days. 4DS did wonders in that department! Now, where to find a longer bar for a GREAT price??? (I hate to think what S/H prices would be!)

Thanks so much, Debbie, for the update! I'm thinking that the freestanding stands would work better for my new Troy Lite (which should arrive today! hooray!).

So here's another question (in my attempt to rationalize spending money on these!): since I just use Cathe's weight DVD's and she usually does pre-exhaust sets for legs (since she says she works under the assumption that most people don't have squat stands), would it be alright to go higher in the weights, even after doing the pre-exhaust sets? I hope I'm explaining that right!:)

I thought I read that someone saw the 7' standard bar at sports authority for $40. Don't remember where I saw that.

LIANN - I love your new workout space. Aren't you so happy to have all that stuff out of your living room now?

Leanne!

IMO, absolutely! Funny how I can go back to some of Cathe's OLD tapes and lift heavier then she does! Not that I am stronger then her, but we've come a loong way baby! Let me know when your Troy arrives. It is such a nice set! I love mine and will def still use it for lower weight loads. Good Luck on whatever rack stand you decide to buy!

Thanks Catherine, I'll see what I can find. It would be great to just go pick one up.

I don't think we have any Sports Authority's near us?? I'll check out Dick's/Walmart and wherever they sell fitness equipment near us. Thanks!
