back to basics

It has been a long time since I checked the forum. So long til I had forgotten my new username after the forum changes. I used to be "affirm" and participated in a no sweets challenge with some ladies for a year.

Anyway, my exercise routine has been sporadic the last year and I realize that I must get back to basics. I have not gained alot of weight, but I don't look as leaned as I used to....resulting in my looking like I have gained weight...YUK!!!

I have always exercised consistently until this last year and I can't even begin to make excuses as to why. I just know that as of July 1...I am back to basics ---exercising regularly and eating better. I must take it one day at a time.

Welcome back! (and i like your new moniker!)

I'm the same. I was going through some tough times over the last year, and I've been less consistent with my exercising. I'm trying to get on that routine again!

Good luck to you!

Hangs head in shame!!!

I have been so awful in keeping up with a regular routine. Life has totally gotten in the way of my workouts!!!!!!

Funny this thread started now because I just MADE myself do 4ds HIS!!!
And it was hard!!!

Good Luck

I realized that when my life was busier and I had a longer commute to work that I exercise more regularly than I do now. That is why I can't even begin to make excuses. I have never tried to use "not having enough time" as an excuse for not exercising. Several years ago I used to work out an hour a day. The last few years, I figured that it didn't matter if I worked out 30 minutes or 1 hour, as long as I did something and stuck to a routine. I can't say that life got in my way. I got comfortable and got in my own way.

I have felt so good the last few days after my workouts. It is a great feeling to be back. I discovered Cathe is 2003 and have loved her workouts and I know with good eating habits and a workout plan, I have seen good results and look forward to seeing them again and even more!

Welcome back and glad you jumped back on the "wagon". I have been there at times and this board and the checkins always get me back on track. Just like Ellie I will come here and get to working out which I wouldn't have done had I not logged on.

I too love the feeling of working out and, of course, the changes it can make in your physical appearance is just a bonus.

Look forward to "seeing" you around.

I, too, have simply made myself get back to basics. I've had illness, family problems, a move, etc., that have resulted in sporadic or nonexistent workouts.

I have to honestly say that CLX got me started CONSISTENTLY again. I haven't missed a workout in 4 weeks now! The workouts are generally 30 minutes, and it is so hard to talk yourself out of it when that is all you have to do. I do not add in extra cardio (which is recommended) so I am not wearing myself out. I will when I feel I can. Until then, I am thrilled with consistency.

My diet now... well, I am visiting my parents and my mom LOVES to indulge me as much as possible. So, I've been indulging ;). That will be remedied soon.

Oh, and I needed to tell you that I do the same thing you do... when I am busier, I am so much more likely to workout. It is because I know I only have a tiny time slot to get the exercise in, and if I miss it, too bad. Plus, I think, the anxiety of knowing I have to do it at a certain time and that I must finish in time to get ready to leave is extra motivation to get moving. But when I have more time on my hands, I keep putting it off; I know I have all day, so I take all day. Then the day is gone and my motivation is gone. You must create a schedule for yourself! That helped me so much.

Good luck! You will get back into it. It may take time for it to feel right again, but it will.

Welcome Back, HeartyMax!!

We will keep you on the "wagon" :D I'm the same, the busier I am the better I keep up with my workouts. I'm a morning exerciser (4:30am) and find that has kept me consistent - if my workout is not done in the morning, it most likely will not get done.

Hi Heartymax!

Love your username and welcome back! I was in the same boat you are in six months ago. Staying consistent with exercise has always been my trouble spot and while I have never been terribly overweight you can see from old photos that I tended to be soft. At the beginning of December I had a horseback riding accident, after a month convalescing and recovering from the concussion I was even more fluffy. This event re-initiated my journey to fitness, which I had pretty much taken for granted for years, you know, doing just enough, but never quite getting all the way there before I would become distracted again.

Anyway - this journey - I'm starting my seventh month - has been my best and also my most consistent effort and I feel fantastic. I have lost weight - like ten pounds - but more importantly I have so much more energy, strength, stamina, and I am happier. Exercising feels great, looking great is just a side benefit. :D

Making a calendar (a schedule or using the workout manager) really helped me. I planned my workouts ahead of time. (planned my eats ahead of time too.)

Check in often!:):)

Welcome back Heartymax. There is no shame in starting back or having had a break. I love it on the forum, I'm probably here too often.

Hey girl!! Glad to see ya back around :) It's so easy to get our of a routine and hard to get back into one. Kudos to you for making the commitment!!!!

Thanks for welcoming me back Fitfairy! I hope things have been going well with you and your routine. I have had some DOMS this week so I guess I am waking up some muscles that haven't been worked in a while LOL!

I keep wanting to call you Affirm LOL!! Things are well with me, thanks. Do you still have your dog-was it Max?

Good ole DOMs gotta love it!!!

You are in good company Heartymax :) I am just getting back to my routine after surgery in April. I find it humbling to be quite challenged by workouts that used to be easy, my cardio capacity is coming along nicely, strength is...hmm...getting there slowly, it's my flexibility that took the biggest hit. No more foot in my face when I'm on my back stretching my hammies....I know I can get it back a hair's breadth at a time but I'm NOT A PATIENT WOMAN!!! :-D Nice to know I'm not alone in getting back to it! Thanks for this thread and welcome back, we will get there!! :)

Take Care
Laurie
