Athletic Step

The good news: I have finally mastered the choreography in this workout! It took me a couple times to get it, but I was surprised at some of the more complex moves (this is advertised as easier to learn).

The length is good---less than an hour---and the sections go fast. This one is pretty high impact and intense. Heart rate really gets up and stays up.

Everything is relative. The choreography in Athletic Step is easier to learn than that in Step Moves, which is part of the same Shock Cardio series, but it does take some time to learn the patterns in Athletic Step. Athletic Step is high impact. Athletic Training (part of Deal of the Day for July 18 at Cathe Deal of the Day) is easier to learn than Athletic Step and part of the Low Impact Series. I don't have every Cathe step DVD but I consider the extreme premix in Athletic Training the toughest cardio challenge among the DVDs that I have. I usually need to pause at least once to catch my breath. On the few occasions when I've made it through the double cardio segment in the premix, it's been a huge accomplishment. This is an efficient workout timewise. I didn't mean to hijack this thread but I can't say enough about how much I like Athletic Training. I liked Athletic Step when I first mastered it, but I seldom do it now because of the high impact and availability of other low impact alternatives.

You didn't hijack the thread, I appreciate your insight/opinion. I have the LIS and enjoy Athletic Training, too.

Step Moves is the only Cathe step DVD that I don't own. Have to admit, I love the older step workouts (maybe it's just nostalgia?).

I tried out this one today (watched it first), under the impression that it is easier to learn. It isn't easy for me. I felt like I got about 70% of it down and then it just moves on again. I was physically and mentally depleted less than 40% of the way through. The background trainers particularly in this one look like they are having a ball. Maybe these steps just aren't for me. I thought I might be getting the hang of it when using step in some of Tracie Long's workouts.

I enjoy Athletic step but do admit there is a spot or two that confuse me. It's definitely one of those wkouts that sneaks up on you! I love that! Just when you think you're about done....NOT! The little blast section at the end gets you! This is certainly a choreographed wkout compared to Athletic Training which uses the step as a prop to engage the lower body. I also LOVE Athletic training! It reminds me of Cardio leg blast! Exhilarating!
