Athleta sizing

OK, this place is a joke. I ordered some capris based on the rave reviews I've been reading here, & I could not get the size smalls past my thighs. I wear size 2-4, so who exactly are these size smalls made for anyway? 9 year olds?

Boy did that give me a complex. Based on the way it made me feel, I don't think I'll ever be ordering from them again.

Hey there! I haven't ordered pants from there but I did order that one honey dress in black -size XS and it is loose-ish on me. And again, I am seriously not "skinny". Also, last week, I bought two identical workout tops in XS, yellow and blue, and they are really tight but they do fit me. I am like a medium-sized looking girl yet the XS suits me. But...I am bottom heavy. So, I guess I haven't said anything to make you feel better ( i was actually trying to!) but I am saying that if you maybe give the tops and dresses a chance, you will not be disappointed. I tend to not buy bottoms online b/c I carry my weight there. Better luck next time. Don't let it get you down...did you return them?? :(

I've never had any problem with their sizing. I am a 2-4 (ATL, AT, BR,..)and that's what i order from them or a small in other things. Occasionally I take a medium for pants. Just like everything else the sizing will vary from style to style.

Well darn. Now I have even more of a complex. :( In Gap, BR, etc. I wear a 2, in VS, Express, etc. I wear a 4. But when I tried to pull these capris past my thighs I seriously heard the waist seam starting to split.

You bet I returned them!

Which pants did you order? Sometimes they have items that run small or large and will note that on the fit-tip. Something like running small, please go up a size.

ETA: BTW I was not trying to make you feel bad- sorry :(

Nah, don't let it make you feel bad...look at it this way,...I feel bad - I don't think I could ever fit into a size 2 pants... ;)

I personally find athletic wear difficult to size. Have you ever tried under armour? Talk about tiny!

You know better than to get hung up on numbers, lady!

It really depends on the clothes, some run small, some just right, some big. My DD wears a 4, and she fits in the XS in most stuff, but occasionally needs S or even M.

Laura don't worry. There is sometimes a size deviation with all clothing line companies. It is just the way the numerous amounts of fabric are cut while in production. They pile on loads of fabric and template cut the pieces, . . with something that looks like a giant cookie cutter. What happens is that the size smalls on top of the pile end up being more acurately a size small than the pieces on the bottom. I'm pretty sure that it is a manufacturers defect or a change in manufacturer. I would just exchange them. Their walk about capri's are the best in quality and construction out there and I've tried so many out there. I know what you mean though. Sometimes it is really hard not to get bogged down by the number on the tag. Don't sweat it you're still a super fit fab gal!

I had the same problem. I ordered several times & have always sent just about everything back. Love looking at the catalog but it stops there for me now. :(

I bought an outfit from them. I ordered a M long sleeve top and a M skirt. (I typically wear either 6 or 8). Well, neither of them fit! I had to exchange for a small skirt and a large top! And I am NOT top heavy! Nor am I bottom small! I'm more of an apple so my stomach/waist is usually the problem area. The medium skirt was HUGE on me! So weird! Anyway, there is another outfit I really want to order (http://www.athleta.com/shopping/pro...DUCT&iMainCat=514&iSubCat=514&iProductID=5393) but I'm not sure what sizes to get. I guess I'm stick with my small skirt and large top but that sounds so wrong for my body. LOL!

Just anoterh suggestion...

My favorite athletic/casual wear site is lucy.com. Have you ever tried them? Check out their web site for fun.

They have really unique & cool graphic tanks/tees & alot of their pants come in different lengths (a must for me cuz i'm really short!) Real cute hoodies, too. i've got several & wear them all the time!

Oooh, this stuff is cute! A little pricey for me, but very cute. Thanks for the tip!

Laura, maybe they were defective... because I wear about your size and I haven't had trouble with their sizing.

Some of it is a bit high, but they're always running coupons if you subscribe. Also, they have a great "sale/clearance" section that I usually find things I like too.

I just sent back a pair of capris to Athleta that were super tight around my thighs, although everything else I ordered fit fine. I ordered the skirt version of those capris, in fact, and they fit fine too. Can't recall what they were called. So it may just be those capris that are a fit issue. If you give it another go, check the sizing and see where your measurements fall just to make sure.

Great Customer Service

Athleta has excellent customer service. When I placed my bathing suit order last year, the girl actually tried on the bottoms to answer my questions about fit. And, she compared different bottoms and tops for me to make sure they would match. I felt like I had a new best friend when I hung up. I would say, if you order again to call first and ask questions and then order. Also, she expedited my exchanges with free 2 day shipping so I would get the items before a party I was going to. I hope this helps. Melissa

Laura, Athleta can be like that sometimes. A few of the pant styles run small. I had to buy a medium in one or two styles, and you're probably the same size as me. You probably got the lotus capri or one of the more fitted styles. As others have mentioned, customer service will let you know if something is running small. But at least 80% of the stuff is true to size. You will be a small or a size 2 in most of their styles. Trust me on this. I have ordered and returned almost every item in the catalogue! As many of you know, my shopaholicism rages out of control reguarly.

I completely agree - typically, I find their sizes run big - and defects happen more often than people think .... factory just screws up the cut on a whole batch and bam - your esteem goes down the toilet.....

Sizing irritates me today because absolutely no company follows universal measurements - how could someone be a 0 for one company and an 8 for another....ugh - drives me nuts.

I am sure you are in fantastic shape, irrespective of Athleta sizing - you have to be - you are a cathlete :)
