Hello and good morning everyone! As promised here is a pic of our new puppy.

I'm so happy! It is amazing how theraputic animals can be. It is not the best pic, . he's a little shy right now. Poor guy was abandoned and brought back to the humane society because the previous owner said he would poo and pee to much, . .duh he's a puppy. He's been quite the gentlemen here. He will lunge to excitedly meet new people and dogs but just he just loves to play. I'd love some new puppy advice from other dog owners. I'd also would love to know what you think his breed is? They say part german shepherd for sure but they don't know what else? I'm thinking labrador he likes to fetch. I guess it doesn't really matter but I was just curious.
We were not expecting to get a puppy, . . but he really picked us. I caught my husband who I had to convince to get a dog kissing him and calling him "son." It was so funny. I'll post more pics when George (named after George Washington) is feeling more photogenic.

Look at that face! Looks like a bundle of fun and mischief! Too cute. Congrats, I love me my doggies!! :)

George is sooooo cute!!!! His face is marked so pretty. I am so excited for you :D I have puppy fever :D I want one sooo bad :p

Thanks for sharing!!!

All this dog talk is KILLING me! We want a dog so badly, but my DH is not on board. I do the forgiveness vs. permission trick a lot (quite a lot, actually), but it wouldn't work in this case. Dogs are a handful (but worth it), and it would cause too much resentment. I'll just live vicariously through this forum.;)

OMG, SO cute!!!!!!

As for new puppy advice..... Ours is almost 7 months old now, and I will warn you that the first .... 5 months are trying. Totally worth it, but trying.

On the potty training front, the key is to take them out whenever there is a possible trigger, and when in doubt, take them out! When he goes outside, praise him like mad. After a play session, take him out. After he eats or drinks anything, take him out. I swear, Eddie used to pee 4700 times per day, sometimes 10 minutes after we had JUST taken him out! But he always followed the book - it was totally our fault. We'd take him out, he'd pee, then we'd bring him back in and play with him for a while. Thinking we didn't need to take him out again, because he JUST went, we wouldn't. Remember the tip about playing, then take out? Yeah, you guessed it, he'd pee. :) Sometimes you'll feel like you are taking him out literally every 20 minutes. It's just what you gotta do. At night, the rule of thumb is they can hold it for as many hours as they are old in months, plus one. So if he's 3 months old, you can expect he can hold it for 4 hours, max. So you'll have to get up in the middle of the night to let him out for a while. To help with this, take away his water after, say 7:00pm, and just put a few ice cubes in his water dish.

Exercise is key to having a well behaved dog. I'm a big fan of Cesar Milan - check out his books and website. Get the pup used to a leash and take him for walks, as many times per day as you can. At first, you'll have to keep them short - it'll tire him out big time! But that's the point - a tired dog is a good dog. :)

Feel free to ask more questions - I am still in the midst of puppyhood, just a little bit ahead of you!!!!!!

Congrats - having a dog rocks.

Oh - I also HIGHLY recommend getting into a puppy obedience class as soon as possible. Most start at 10-12 weeks of age. It's good to start training as soon as you can, and to socialize the puppy to other people and other dogs.

How cute!!! He looks like hell on wheels. Watch out, puppy mama!!! Give him a hug and belly rub for me. Does he have a name, or did I miss it?
Nan

ETA: DUH!!! George, I see it now. Silly me.

OMG...could that baby BE any cuter?!? I can't imagine. He does look like hell, or mischief, on wheels. I CAN'T wait to hear the stories.

You made my day! For all of us dog lovers.

Give George a BIG kiss from me and Willoughby!

What a cutie! Congratulations! He's adorable! I love that you named him George! Looks like you've already gotten the best advice, so I won't be redundant!

Enjoy and I can't wait to see more pics!

What an adorable doggie!!!!!!!!!! You are right....my doggies are my escape from reality daily! Enjoy your new buddy! You are definitely his hero!

George is perfect and sweet! How could your DH not love him! ;) Puppies are definitely a lot of work but so worth it! I hope your baby is feeling more comfortable with you guys really soon! Have fun! :)

Thanks so much everyone!! I just love him so much. Can anyone give me some advice on bathing? He smells pretty pound like but I didn't want to traumatize him if he does not like baths, . . to bathe him too soon.
