Are Cathe Workouts BluRay Compatible?

I"m in the market for a new High Definition DVD player, and I have been doing research, such as reading your forums on which DVD players you all have, magazine articles, research as much as I can on the computer, etc. I just happened to read an article on the computer about BluRay vs High Def, and it doesn't sound good for High Def. However, I can't afford the BluRay right now, maybe in a few years when the price goes down, and the article says to stay with High Def right now. If, in the future, we are forced to get BluRay, I want to know if Cathe's DVDs are BluRay compatible now? I am still going to buy a High Def strictly for price considerations, but as the article states, High Def is going the way Betas did. Does anyone know?

I can't imagine why an article would say to stay with HD DVD at this point. Last month, Toshiba waived the white flag and conceded to BluRay. Nothing new is being made for HD DVD at this point and buying one now would be pointless and a waste of money. That said, I don't know if BluRay is compatible with current DVDs, but my guess is probably not. It is called BluRay because it uses a blue laser scanner rather than the red one that current DVDs use.

Almost all Blu-ray players are compatible with standard definition. In other words, a blu-ray player is able to play your current dvds. But always make sure that the player is SD compatible before you purchase one.

I agree with sdstout that it makes absolutely no sense for an article to suggest you stick with HD. Toshiba announced plans last month that it would stop production of all their HD dvd players.

Yes, HD is dead. All their players now on sale real cheap... around $50. You can still play Cathe DVD on HD and BluRay DVD players. So essentially, you can use the HD player as an upconvert -- using the HD DVD for its nice feature to play regular DVD. It won't play BluRay.

That article was probably old, because Blu Ray is the way to go. Glad to hear it is compatible with the Cathe DVD's. Personally because my Sony is still working well, I am waiting to buy a Blu Ray. They are a bit pricey, and things like this usually go down in price. I figure by next Christmas things will be looking better price wise.

I bought a Blu-Ray and mine was so finicky (delicate) about vibrations, and disc scratches, and heaven-knows-what-else, that it had to be sent back for replacement (kept locking up on both DVDs and BDs). It was a Sharp brand, since I am in love w/ my Sharp Aquos TV, by the way. The Sharp Blu-Ray, not so much. :(

When the new replacement one comes, I'm definitely NOT using it for workouts. It was so expensive I am keeping it to play ONLY Blu-Rays on and I want to keep it "like new." ;) Luckily the DVD player I had before still works, so it will continue to be my exercise & regular movie player.
