Are all Catheites peanuts????

:D Hi! I am 5' 5" and weigh 135-140 and wear anything between size 6-10 depending on the clothing manufacturer. I look and feel great for my age and do not put much emphasis on clothing size or numbers on the scale. I still wear the same clothing size I did in high school and I am 10 lbs heavier (must be the muscle)!

I'm not a peanut...I just play one on tv.

Actually, I'm short -- 5'1". Genetics play a huge part of how small we can actually get. At my lightest adult weight - 115 - I looked ill. Seriously -- my husband (boyfriend at the time) thought there was something really wrong with me because I looked so emaciated. I have medium to large bones and carry LOTS of muscle naturally. Even at that light weight, size 6 was pretty tight. So, there you have it. Short and light does not always equal a very, very small clothing size.

Now, I'm an Oompa Loompa. :D :D :D

Well, thanks for answering, but honestly I don't see what the big deal is. I don't care who labels the clothes, and it's never really bothered me one way or the other. I suppose we could call them "A", "B", "C", etc., but someone would find a problem with that too I'm sure. I've been fat, I've been thin, and I've been in between. No one ever gawked at me, and if they did, I never paid attention. I am who I am. I don't judge myself or anyone else according to what I see on TV or in magazines. I'm comfortable with who I am, and with how my body looks. I know I'm eating healthy and taking care of myself, and that's really all I wanted to get back to doing. I've done it, and I'm happy. I realize society has a "standard", but it's not MY standard, so I simply don't care. I ignore it. It's easy to do, once you learn how. I teach my daughter (she's almost 13) to be who she is, and to let her personality and gifts shine through to the outside. Yes, we are judged by what people see, but we do the same thing, albeit unconsciously. It's called being human. All we can do is try not to, and teach our children the same. If others judge you, just remember you are not responsible for their actions and behavior, only for your own. Anger is a killer. Just let it go, and be who you are. Their standards don't have to be yours. You have your own, just as we all do. You aren't going to change the fashion world. Not in our lifetimes, anyway. And, they do change. But it takes decades. Centuries, even, if you look back through time. Still, I saw this thread as pure fun, and nothing else. Apparently I'm not alone in this, but you are as entitled to your opinion as anyone, and I appreciate your sharing it with us. Have a happy day.

How about trees? Have you ever seen funny looking trees? Those always crack me up!! :) (just trying to add levity here!!)

Buzz Kill

Mogambo, you forgot comb overs!

OK ,I hate to be a buzz kill but....

Susan makes some valid points. We are all really discussing how we have come to terms with our bodies in spite of thefact that in this country you need to be thin with large breasts and no rear end, stand 5'11" and weigh 110 in order to sell clothes to the average size 14 American woman. And once you hit thirty, you're outta there! My aunt sent me an email that stated that 70% of women who look at fashion mags become depressed and dissatisfied with their bodies. That's why I don't read those rags. I have 9 sisters who range from 5'2 to 5'10". some are tiny, some fit, some horribly unhealthy, some a little heavy by that standard. I have seen my 4'10 inch mother who is tiny, call herself fat and she was addicted to speed when I was a teen. I have dropped my weight to 100 pounds at least 3 times in my life, before at 30, I discovered the beauty of exercise and a pretty clean diet. At 40, I am free and I love this bod! Three kids, including a c-section. Ran a marathon before my feet went. Raising two daughters, one of whom also does not conform to those standards but is bright and marches to the beat of her own drummer and really likes herself.

We should be feminists! We should tell them to standardize sizing and stick their vanity sizes where the sun don't shine! We should refuse to buy clothes shown to us on models who look nothing like us!

But, dammit, I can't sew!

I am walking around naked today with a sign that says: "This is a real woman's body". Be sure to tune into CNN tonight!

Thank God,for Cathe and this website, where we can come and KNOW that we are all different, all shapes, sizes and we are normal and we are gorgeous and we are real.

My body looks like that of one of the Old Masters paintings. If only Bottecelli or Da Vinci was running the media!

You guys are my role models and I love you, man! Keep showing the world what real women are and how those 8 supermodels who "represent" us are really freaks!

Almost Peanut here! I find this thread really interesting so I'll just chime right in! :)

I am 5'3" and weigh 128, but wear size 4s, which are now getting loose on me. I have a lot of jiggly fat left on my buttissimo, so it is conceivable that if I continue to build muscle I will get smaller. I don't really care what size I wear, or how much I weigh (not really going to try to lose more), except that it is much harder to find size 2s, 0s and XS than it is 4s and Smalls. What really is more important is that I be healthy and fit, but I do want to be able to find clothes, LOL! :) I can't wear petites because like Kelley said, they are often too short and fit me funny. I'm not complaining, mind you, I just have to find a store that carries non-vanity sizing or carries 2s and 0s. :) This is a much different scenario than I had a year and a half ago when finding size an XL that didn't pull and tug was difficult and size 14 were too snug but 16s were too loose.

RE: Buzz Kill

Thank you, Bobbi. Susan does make very valid points. Alexis, who started this thread, responded to Susan's post in a very classy way. I don't think Susan was being nasty. I don't think she's an angry woman either. That's a very simple-minded way of interpreting her post, to say she's plain mean and negative just because she juxtaposed a dress size with mainstream society's conception of beauty. Now THAT really took the levity out of this thread! That said, I'm outta here and on my way somewhere else. See you on the skinny fat thread.

RE: Buzz Kill

Hey fit@home, are you saying that you are in the new Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Facotry movie? Or is this a play?
Oh, by the way, I'm like 137 right now, hour glass figure, wear a size 8, but I'm trying very hard to get back in my "normal sized" clothes. Which would be a 6 at 127. It's quite the struggle though, but I'm not giving up, so there! Ha, ha!
Oh, and I have a very strange looking tree in my side yard, a few long branches, and when there are leaves on it it lookes very twiggie, yet it's taller than my house. Strnage, I thought baout cutting it down, but then decided to just keep it there, we can make a statement that we aren't prejudice strange looking trees. Ha, ha!

Maybe....LOL :p

Wow Donna, sounds like you have had quite a journey in the wiehgt loss adventure, congratulations! To go from a size XL, to basically a size small in one year you can be the poster child for all of us frustrated women on this forum!
I just thought I would let you know I'm very impressed, way to go!

I agree, Pinky and I think I love Alexis! She makes me laugh! Funny and brilliant too!

And you are darned good at making a balanced point yourself!

Carol is BEAUTIFUL and I check every post that bears her name. So darn smart! Mogambo, clever with a sometimes wicked edge and I could go on and on. And yes I know that I often do!
This is a fabulous thread. Sure, we are a little peeved at the way things are but that's the way they are and the best revenge is in living, laughing and loving life on our terms.

Beside, that cult of youth can become quite grotesque. I saw Cher on TV and although I have always liked her no BS attitude, she has become physically sort of scary. She needs some wrinkles! I don't remember a word she said. I was so facinated by her sparly eye shadow and lineless face!

RE: Buzz Kill

But ... there was a time when the women in the Bottecelli and DaVinci paintings were the standard of beauty! I don't think of supermodels, underwear models, or toy train models as "representing" me. It's not "real" to me. "Real" is getting up at 6:00 AM, reminding Nik every five minutes to get out of bed, get dressed, and feed her gerbil, yelling at her to do the same by 6:30 AM, running her up to her school bus stop, listening to her and her friend Melissa crack pre-teen jokes as they wait in my car for the bus, waving to her as she gets on the bus, coming back here and working out, taking my shower, running errands, cleaning my house, cooking, opening the mail, paying the bills, going to work to take care of sick people all night, fighting to stay awake while doing the above because I've already been up and "working" all day, then coming home in the morning, getting Nik on the bus again, and sleeping maybe four hours. THAT'S reality TV, baby!! LOL!! Not walking down a runway in Paris or New York, my bones sticking out and my implants jiggling (before we start any rumors here, no I do NOT have implants for real!!!), while I strut my stuff wearing Victoria's Secret or Chanel. That stuff just doesn't affect my daily life, it never will, I don't even have TIME to look at fashion mags or watch TV, so I JUST DON'T CARE!!! LOL!! As for the sizes on the clothes, they have to have some way to standardize them, and they have to call them something, and I don't know who came up with the numbers or why, but they have to be called something so you know which ones to buy for your own body. It's only a number, just like your age. It's an arbitrary way to mark measurements, just as age is an arbitrary way to mark time. It only has meaning if you GIVE it meaning.

I'll tune into CNN tonight while at work!! LOL!!

RE: Buzz Kill

OOOOOOOO!! Maybe we could alert the media and we'd see the story on Fox!! "Alien Cactus Flips Off Passing Motorists!" LOL!! Can you just imagine it??? Maybe Geraldo Rivera could cut one open and see if there are alien babies inside???

Thank you Kathy! Yes, I have lost 43 pounds this last year, and more than 42 inches. I started the Firm a year and a half ago, cleaned up my eating habits a couple of months after that and then found Cathe...What a WONDERFUL combination. I'm healthier and fitter at 48 than I have ever been.

RE: Buzz Kill

>I don't think it was simple-minded at all, and I'm not a
>simple-minded person.

I don't think you're a simple-minded person Carol. What's simple-minded is your interpretation of Susan's first post.

>I never said
>she was "plain mean or negative".

You ask if she was "pissed off". That carries with it connotations of meanness and negativity.

>Just that she sounded
>angry. I also answered her back, and told her she was as
>entitled to her opinion as anyone.

Very well, you are entitled to your perceptions and interpretations as much as the next person.

>Are you saying MY post
>took the levity out of this thread? Or, have I misinterpreted
>you?

No, you did not misinterpret me. You jumped on someone who ended her post with "Please be kind."

>This has gone from talking about peanuts to a rant on
>the evils of society and the way it portrays women and their
>size, which we could debate from now until doomsday and not
>really solve anything.

Exactly. Debates seldom solve anything, but actions can. To act in an accepting manner helps a lot.

>You can run to another thread, but I
>sure would like to know if you have a specific problem with my
>post, because most of the things you said reflect my post to
>Susan's first one. Thanks.

I don't "run" Carol. I'm no coward. If that post was a rant and did not contribute to the thread, it would've been best left alone. I joined this forum because I always thought it was one of those places where no one voice was invalidated. Not so sure about that now.

RE: Buzz Kill

I never said you were a coward. You and I seem to have a problem with the way we interpret each other's words, but thanks for writing back just the same. Peace.

RE: Buzz Kill

Did Carol erase what she posted?? The post that you, Pinky, responded to??? I hate it when people do that. Throw something out there, get someone to respond, and then delete it all. Then, the rest of us come along and wonder why the fur's in a fluff. Not good.
