Apartment tenants/Good Neighbors-HELP!!

I love aerobics and especially step for my exercise. My gym has been a big disappointment, so I am relying more on home exercise to do the fun things I love. But I live in an apartment. Getting a good step workout is impossible when you live above someone. I've bought an el cheapo trampoline to at least do some of the hi-impact stuff. Has anyone found a good solution that I can try when doing some of Cathe's videos in my apartment. My step feels so abandoned.
Thanks for your help!

My best advice, especially if they are good neighbors, is to talk to them about the situation, see what they have to suggest about a compromise and what they would be willing to live with. Maybe you can switch up your schedule and try to workout when they aren't home, save the high-impact stuff for weekends, or at least a very reasonable time during the day, etc. Puzzle mats might help, a very, very little bit, but not enough if you really want to keep the peace (I've been working out-Cathe high impact- above people for the last 4 years), and this is what I have found to work the best.
Good luck!

I agree you should talk to your neighbors. There's no gaurantee they will be understanding, but you can at least find out their schedule and work out when they aren't home. I use a set of black puzzle mats I found at Target. They help a good bit so that I'm not too disturbing. What kind of partment do you live in? is it a complex? In past apartments, the management has let me use the property clubhouse or fitness room (if it's big enough) to do my workouts.

I live in an apartment and talked to my neighbor that lives under me. Usually when I work out, she is not home, so it's ok. But she also said that it doesn't bother her as long as it's not first thing in the morning. I would definitely talk to your neighbors - good luck!

Thanks for everyone's advice. I guess I will talk to my neighbors. The only reason I've hesitated is b/c I didn't want to face the possibility that they might be bothered by the noise (don't ask, don't tell, right). My apartment bldg doesn't have an exercise room or I would have definitely opted to exercise there. I've even gone to extent of asking my gym if I could use the studios during NONE class time, they told me I could, but I couldn't use their step...I'd have to lug mine back and forth everyday x( . I was actually secretly hoping someone would suggest some sound proof mat or something that would make the problem obsolete. OH WELL!

Thanks again.:p

wow that is awesome that they said it would be ok! i'd definitely go with this option. do they have a tv/dvd player that you can use? maybe others will join you and you can start a cathe class! that would be really fun actually.

btw what's wrong with lugging your step? just consider it part of your warmup :)
