Anyone, PS BBA Question

Hi,

I've got the whole PS series and I've been using them to break into weight training. I have the Firm barbell and the starter weight set. Can I use dumbells to modify the exercises in the back section of BBA? The whole set loaded onto my barbell just doesn't seem like it is hard enough for the exercises. I have 10,15 and 20 lb. dumbells. Does form change slightly when you modify with dumbells? And why is the barbell the best choice for doing these exercises over dumbells if they can be modified? At the moment, I don't really want to go out and buy more plates. I've got more than enough weight right now for biceps and the other two tapes too. And I've already spent enough money on the DVD 8 pack and my VHS starter Cathes (well-spent). Thanks for any help.

Modifying lat rows...

Hi, Helen,

For the longest time, I had to do all my back exercises with dumbells only... That was before I got Cathe's PS series, but still, I became so used to using two heavy dumbells for double-arm lat rows(in Firm Strength or Vol. 6 w/Jayne Poteet). I would think that with a 20-pound dumbell in each hand, and seated at the edge of your box or step, doing rows just like Cathe does with the barbell would be just as effective. I'm certainly no expert, but I feel the work in the same area of my back now with my barbell as I did with 2 dumbells.

I'm not sure why the barbell would be better, except that you are able to place both hands together at one end, and feel the work equally in both sides of the back. I'm sure Cathe or someone more knowledgeable about this will give you more feedback, though! :)

Take care,
Amy

Help. I have the same question!

I have been working with strength training using dumbbells only for over a year. I started doing the PS series two weeks agon and just bought a fifteen pound adjustable barbell last night. I have been modifying all of the barbell exercises on the tapes by using two 8-lb dumbbells and am not quite sure how to proceed from here. What is the correlation between the weight you lift with dumbbells and the weight you would lift when you change to a barbell? Thanks for any suggestions.
