Anyone here over 40?

Hi Julia,

I'm 42 and trying to reduce my body/belly fat as well. I had my son when I was 39 and had trouble loosing weight until a few months ago when I finally took exercising and healthy eating seriously. Since then there's been improvement but I still have more to loose. I cut out junk food and started Jazzercise, which really motivates me to move. I have various exercise videos but only one Cathe, MIS, which I think gives me the best results. I'm trying my best to get through it without hitting pause so many times, but I am determined. When I do complete the workout I feel exhausted and exhilarated at the same time. I just have to remember to be faithful to my workouts/healthy eating and take it one day at a time. I will get there.

Best of luck!

Charl

PS - I'm hoping Santa will bring me some Cathe DVDs for Christmas.

I'm 52. I lost almost 75 pounds this past year, the result of gastric bypass surgery and finally being healthy enough to exercise. I do exercise videos faithfully 6 days a week now.

I am 45 and battle the tummy pooch too. What I have found, especially since joining this forum, is that there is no one "blue print" for achieving your fitness goals. Everyone's metabolism, body type and genetic "baggage" is unique. For me, Cathe's weight workouts have helped me gain strength and nicely defined muscles. Personally, I have to run several times per week in order to maintain a stable weight and cardiovascular fitness level. Fortunately, I have been a runner for over 20 years and I love it. I will probably never have a perfectly flat tummy, but I am healthy and in great shape, so I can live with a little pooch
;-)

You've lost over 50 lbs. AND quit smoking...Superwoman!!

Congratulations...I really mean that. You're a great inspiration.

Ruth:)

Oh, thank heaven I've found some 50 & over fellow Catheites. I was thinking I would have to quietly slip away from the forum and come back in 10 years. But then I figured I'd be the only 60!x(

Which I have to say is a frightening thought no matter how I look at it.

Ruth;-)

Hi Julia!

I'm 51 & working out w/Cathe for almost 13 years now. I'm even amazed that I can still keep up w/her. Keep at it it does get better even through perimenopause. I remember working out w/fatigue & thinking sometimes what in the world am I doing this for? Oh yeah my health!:7 During perimenopause, however, your going to have to eliminate ALL sugar & perhaps some dairy not all. I only had some bloating but not much weight gain during this period. I was placed on Mercette 28 to balance out my estrogen levels. It worked & the bloatedness disappeared but as for the fatigue I just kept taking a multi-vitamin pill & suffered through it. Just be patient w/yourself & don't be too hard on yourself either. Remember this is a journey not a race. HTH, Kathy:D

Another over 40 here! I am 49 and quickly approaching 50 and looking better then ever thanks to Cathe! Okay, well I look better then the 49ers I know! :) People are continually shocked at my age and I know it's because of my consistency to working out. You need to just keep at it and FIGHT IT! I started having little belly issues about 3 years ago and though my stomach is not flat I've kept it controlled through diet and exercise! Don't give up! Keep fighting! :) :)

You all are an inspiration to me! I'm 52 and have been wondering how long I can keep up this intensity of exercise. Julia, I lost 50 pounds this year doing low carb. I've just switched over to more of a "clean eating" regimen. Still low carb, but more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Also, I'm trying to eat low fat foods (a real switch from the way I ate while losing the weight). I've been doing Cathe for about a year now. You can do this!!

Margaret

KathyH,

I had the same experience with Mircette. Great stuff. And, yes, I noticed how much better I feel and look after I cut out sugar and starches. I've even drastaically cut down on fruit (only 1 bannana a day now). But, I have added nuts to my diet with no ill results.

Today, I'm wearing size 4 Lucky low waist jeans. Never thought I'd be wearing this size at almost 50. Thanks to mostly clean eating and working out with Cathe. She's been a blessing.

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone! Margaret, I too am eating more of a modified, clean eating type of diet now. I also eat lots of veggies and fruit, but haven't added grain (unless you count flax). I've lowered my fat - cut out red meat and cut way back on the cheese and I think its made a difference. At least I'm seeing the scale move again!:)

I'm 41 and have been working out to Cathe for 2+ years. Before then I ran, lifted at the gym, then once I had my two children (at 34 and 35) I started doing workout videos. Because I've always been active I have been able to keep my weight down, but Cathe reshaped my body in ways that I've never seen before! My cardio endurance increase two-fold and my strength increased tremendously. I also decreased a pants size, even though I didn't diet. However, in the past 6 months I've noticed some belly fat making an ugly appearance and I realized I'd better clean up my diet, or else! I've given up on sugar and snacking after dinner, and limited my alcohol intake. While I'm still doing lots of Cathe, I've had to decrease the intensity somewhat because my joints have been rebelling from all the high impact everyday. I limit the real intense Cathe, like the IMAX's or Bootcamp, to just once a week. Diet has made a big difference in getting rid of the pooch and I'm beginning to see a flattening in my abs that I haven't had since before kids. I'm also seeing greater muscle definition in my arms and legs, all while taking it down a notch. I'm quite pleased with the results!

Hi :) I'm 47, in full-swing perimenopause, and to top it off quit smoking about 8 months ago. I've been working out (again, after a few-years hiatus) for about 3 years straight now, the last 1 1/2 with Cathe...I try to mix up my variety of workouts and have some other faves, but she's the best! Anyway, I really noticed a difference with Bootcamp, actually saw core definition for the first time ever. I actually had my weight right where I wanted it until I quit smoking...now, 8 months and 10 pounds later, I'm working it off, s-l-o-w-l-y, lol...and I can't believe how it wants to settle in my waist ... I NEVER had that problem before, always gained in my hips/thighs, so I attribute this to the whole menopausal thing.

I'll be 42 in February. I've worked out for the past 20+ years and didn't start gaining weight until I turned 35. After 35, what I ate became more important than what workouts I did... I've been maintaining my bodyfat loss for a year and a half. :)

Another 40-something here. I am 42 and happy to say I have had no perimenopausal symptoms yet.... My greatest fear has been the collision of puberty and menopause between my children and I but so far so good.:)
After being overweight 30+ years I started working out about 12 years ago and discovered Cathe about 4 years ago. I teach at a gym 3x/week and am amazed at the heartiness of some of our female senior members. Many do the 'Gentle Fit' classes but a few still do full tilt cardio and weights, my dearest member is a beautiful, strong flexible woman of 78 years of age. Does BodyPump and the most beautiful forward bends in my yoga classes. What I am learning is that the older we get the more vigilant we must be with our eating. I try not to deprive myself of anything but if I want to be at my comfortable weight I must be disciplined during meals and not eat anything after dinner.
FORTY ROCKS!!!!!:)

Take Care

Laurie, LOL! That's exactly what's happening in this household...collision of "peri and puberty"! I've got a 14-year-old son...need I say more? LOL

I turned 46 yesterday. I fight the belly fat too but I know my diet has a lot to do with that. But, because of Cathe, I am in the best physical shape that I have ever been.

I'm 55 and have just discovered Cathe, but I've been an exerciser for the past 20 years or so. There's lots of good advice on this forum. No sodas is a must, including all diet sodas -- diet sodas can actually make you fat -- drink water 1-2 glasses BEFORE each meal -- no bad carbs -- good carbs are okay and hi protein.

No high fat meal for 1 hour before you exercise -- no sugar for 2 hours after you exercise -- this helps to stimulate the natural HGH (growth hormore) in your own body. 25 grams of protein after exercising.

Actually getting rid of refined sugar in your diet is the best thing you could do for yourself.

:)
