Anyone experience slight shifting using Topper with old...

Hi Everyone,
I only purchased the High Step topper. I am using the purple risers that came with my green health club step. I noticed that the High Step topper slightly slides a bit on my old purple risers. Has anyone who's using their purple risers with the High Step top experiencing this? Funny thing is, my green step bench moves around a little on my purple risers too but it is secure when I'm stepping on it. Is this something to worry about? I kind of regret not getting the topper with the 5 risers, but I recently purchased 8 more purple risers this summer to make my step bench high enough to use as a weight bench for flys, chest presses, etc. (I also was using a very high step bench to do step-ups until I could get the High Step topper).

Sorry to ramble on. I worry too much about small things:D

There is a thread about this over at Video Fitness. I put my topper on my old risers just for comparison and it does seem to move a little bit whereas it does not on the newer risers that it came with. My step also moves a little on the older risers, but not on the new. By the way, I have the newer gray step.

mine wobbles slightly also with purple risers..and i am not buying more risers. i am going to give it some time ams see how it goes.x(

You might want to experiment with putting different risers in different positions. I find that with my regular step, sometimes the step seems to shift a bit, then when I turn one of the risers around, or put the bottom riser on top, I can get it to be more stable.

I'm going to try out my new topper today. If it shifts, I think I'll try putting a small towel on top of the top riser and see if that will make it fit more snuggly (by filling in the "wiggle" spaces).

You're right, Kathryn! I remember turning one of my risers around and it did help stabilize my regular step bench. I'm going to try that with my old risers and the topper. Wow, you wouldn't think risers could be so finicky!

Hi Grace!

I thought my topper felt a bit un-snug (I KNOW that's not a word!) too but I just finished doing Legs & Glutes (what a great workout!) and I never felt unstable doing any of the moves and it is used quite a bit in the workout. I'd just be very careful when you first try it and see how it feels. I feel very confident with mine now. Good Luck!

I'm using the high step with the new risers and I felt slightly wobbly this morning when I used it for the first time during ME. I had it pointed the way Cathe has hers pointed with the black edge facing forward, but I think I might turn it a quarter turn because the step seems wider that direction. I guess I just need to get used to it.

I got the high step with their risers and it feels a little wobbly, like I have to be careful or it might tip over - the odd thing is I use it on carpet in my basement which is indoor outdoor carpet.

I think maybe the top isn't as well made maybe because it is smaller? Well, at least I know it isn't just me.

I noticed this with my high step too A little wobbly I messsed with the risers and I do make sure I am careful but it seemed better once I adjusted it a bit

I just used my topper yesterday, to do the Firm Complete Aerobic and Weight Training. I love it! I can put some propulsions into the step moves that I was afraid to do with the Fanny lifter (because it's so light, and I was afraid to catch my foot on it and have it skitter across the room).

When I first put together the highest step I was using (14") it seemed a little more wobbly than I would like it to be. But I experimented with turning the risers in different directions, and that helped. I think the risers are not necessarily precisely shaped to all be exact. And I think the higher you make the "high step," the more wobble there could be.

Let's put it scientifically ;-) : with each riser, you get, let's say, 1 unit of instability (UI), which may not even be noticed. Then you stack up more risers, and with each one, there is an additional UI. When you have 5 risers stacked up, that makes for 5 UI's, which may be very noticeable.

I kind of wish the non-skid rubber part on top of the platform would cover the entire top. It would make it easier to stand on with both feet, and make it easier to "hit" the top of the platform when stepping.

I know this kinda defeats the purpose of buying the high step, but if you just put the riser underneath the old step bench surely you would get the same weight but with much more stability??? Sure the platform is bigger, but hence, more stability. Just at thought… DebbieH… I was so scared to cut up my step that in the end I just tough four more riser and now have a very high step bench when it. And it doesn’t wobble!

>stability.

Actually, I think the regular step platform is less stable because of the unsupported section that is between the two risers. Before getting the high step topper, I used my regular step for the leg presses (at 12 or 14"), and it had more "wiggle" to it.

I notice this too.

Frankly, I find I am most comfortable using my old 14" FIRM tall box for anything requiring a step that tall, but the high step topper totally rocks compared to the FIRM's fanny lifter. I like the high step's versatility and will use it for anything under 14", but once I go that high I'm going back to my old wooden step for stability's sake.

I've always said my Step Co. Step purchase (10 years ago now!) was one of the wisest purchases I'd ever made, but dang, I wish I had those new risers! But I am just not going to break down and spend the money on them. Oh well.

I know this is kind of old, but I think I've figured it out why the black risers fit better than the purple risers. I've just received my high step and 1 black riser (FYI I have purple risers prior). I tested with the purple ones (I have 2 shades of purple risers - 4 light and 4 dark) right on the bottom of the high step. They are stable for leg presses, but the high step do shift if I push it sideways. I think for leg presses where your movement is only up/down, it's stable.

When I put my new black riser right on the bottom of the high step, the high step does not shift at all when pushed. It's more stable than with the purple one on the bottom.

Then I noticed that the rectangular ridges around the risers (between the circle dents) are not the same size on the purple and black risers. The black riser rectangular ridges are ever so slightly larger --- thus providing a snug fit for the high step. I think for a much stable high step, I do recommend having a black riser (it could on top of a bunch of purple ones) right beneath the high step. However, the purple risers is stable enough for leg presses since the movement is up/down.

I also noticed that my high topper shifted a little when I used my purple risers. I decided to try some of the risers from my first step, the pink ones, and I couldn't believe what a difference this made. The older pink risers fit the high topper perfectly, and it is completely stable when I use these. Somewhere along the line the risers must have changed slightly. The topper is actually designed to fit the old pink risers! This suits me well enough since I happened to have 6 of them around the house. Helen:)

I have not gotten the topper yet but had a suggestion to make it a bit more stable. Maybe get a small strip of felt and hot glue it in the linning of the topper. That will fill the gap slightly and make it more snug.

I had heard that someone did this on VF
