Anyone else peeing???

I have a big problem. I have noticed lately that when I return from my runs I smell like urine. Please, no eeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwing yet! I can hear you already! I am ewing myself, to be honest with you. I started doing kegals to strengthen all those wonderful pelvic muscles, but that has only made it worse! I got back from my run this morning and I couldn't wait to get my pants off, they reek! I don't even feel it. What do I do!!!!x( x( x(

Missy,

I heard someone say that you could be burning some muscle when you have that ammonia smell going. I know what you mean though, when I sweat from working out really hard, same thing happens to me. It is o.k., alot of us probably smell like pee. LOL! I don't know what else to tell you though, but maybe someone else has some good advice.

hey missy

i noticed the same thing one day myself. i am not sure what it is. the only time during exercise the i have to pee is during jumping jacks or air borne jacks(but lucky me i keep the remote close by the bathroom is two steps away LOL). but i would love to hear an opinion on this.

I might be. I always thought it was sweat, but am suspicious that I might have slight "leakage" when I workout.

Hi Missy.

If you have children, unfortunately those lame kiegels won't do a bit of good. I've had four children and things just don't go back into shape in that area like they used to. I had the same problem during exercise and it was really bad when we'd go out to eat and someone would make me laugh. I wet all over the back seat of a co-workers car and that was when I made the decision to have the surgery to have my bladder put back where it belongs! Boy and I glad I did. Exercise is enjoyable again and you stay "dry" all day!!!

Good luck to you.

That is so me! I pee when I laugh too hard, that is part of the reason why we still have the plastic on our dining room chairs. :+ It sorta runs inthe family. My grandma, my sister, my son, we all seem to have a problem "holding it". I think it has more to do with the muscles than they actual bladder, though. I have had exams and everything is as it should be. Excercise will always be fun, but it will be nice when I don't leave a trail while I run!!! :+

I asked this question a month or so ago and Kim (I'm not sure what her user name is)gave me some good advice. She said that when you go to the bathroom that you should periodically 'stop' yourself. This will help train those muscles down there to hold it better. I have been doing this for over a month now and I can honestly say that I have noticed an improvement. Since you say you don't actually 'feel' yourself leaking, this may not be your problem though. I could feel when I was leaking when I'd do jumping jacks/running. I'm still leaking, but I've definately noticed an improvement. And I can remember to do this. I just do this every time I go to the bathroom. I was terrible with Kegals, but this I can do.

It sounds like there are 2 different problems here. Some of us have "pee" smelling sweat and some of us have some degree of incontinence.

Trust me, sweat smelling like pee is not unusual, sometimes mine does, and my husband's does too. I have smelled other people's sweat that does as well.

Incontinence, on the other hand, can have various different causes. Its hard to narrow in on those without specifics. I actually have incontinence, but it's my bladder muscle that is weak, not my pelvic, or "kegel" muscles.

I get that every time I do something that is too intense. If I go running and I push too hard or too fast for too long I end up with that smell...urine/ammonia. I have to say its hard to get out of your clothes too, sometimes I have to wash them twice.

Heres a link that may answer your questions.

Could it be the type of clothing that you're wearing?

I have a couple of pairs of running shorts that are made of some sort of nylon material. Whenever I wear them to workout, I swear I have the most disgusting smell - not sure it's urine-like, but it couldn't be much worse.

However, when I wear my cotton/spandex blend stuff, I don't smell too bad.

Jast a thought.

I have trouble with flying jacks and that sort of move too. I wear a light days pad stuck into my shorts and make sure I am totally totally empty before I start Imax3 or something like that.

When I run, I know I am not leaking anything, and I don't think I get the ammonia smell, although that link was interesting so now I know what it is if anyone asks me.

I wanted to say that yes, there are some Nylon sports bras and shorts that just never smell good again. I just only wear them at home, because they are still in good shape. One of them is made of something called Supplex. Cotton is better, but it gets so cold and clammy. There seems to be no perfect fabric.

I noticed this when I lived in Florida and started body building. It was strange...one day I just started noticing it. It started "out of nowhere" so to speak. I mean, I had never noticed the smell before, then one day - BOOM - I started smelling it. At first, it bothered me and made me feel like something was wrong...now, I'm not so worried about it. It doesn't happen after every workout. In fact, now I only notice it about half the time, if that much. Sometimes it's worse than at other times. My simple solution: I take a shower after I exercise, and I'm all better. :)

I was just going to post this exact thing! When I wear my nylon running shorts I can't hardly stand myself and make sure I stay away from everyone! But when I wera cotton/lycra it's just normal sweat.
