Anyone else out there can't run?

I can't do it. I used to "jog" when I was younger, but I will tell ya, it was hard for me. I am broad thru the hips (oh those broad bones, when I come back next life, I am asking for slim hips) and maybe it weighs on me to make it more difficult. And oh, it just didn't do right for my back.
Anyone one else out there who just can't do it? I hope I am not the only one!

I run, but it sure is a struggle for me. I've always been a sprinter - I have the sprinter's powerful lower body. Running distance is a slog for me. I'm very slow, but I do it.

I can't run. I think I'm anatomically unsuited for it. I ran years ago, during the "no-pain, no-gain" days of fitness, up and down hill on cement sidewalks with bad shoes (I was a poor student) and wrecked my knee in no time flat. It's given me problems ever since.

I CAN, however, jog or sprint on a rebounder.

I would think a lot of women would have trouble with running because of the Q angle in our hips (wider hips, and a different angle of thighs to hips).

I ran the other week and could barely walk for the next 4 days. My inner thighs ached and my hips were so sore. I think next time the rotation calls for running, I may just use the eliptical and not the treadmill.

I cannot run at all. I am a spaz. Plus, when I had my hysterectomy for a prolapsed bladder my doc told me that I can could prolong the life of the repair job by not running. His exact words were "Walk or hike until your legs fall off, but do not ever, ever run. It is just too hard on your insides." I do enough jarring doing Cathe.

So, you are not alone!

I can't run, either!! I have tried many times, because I realize what good exercise it is, but I'm just not well suited for it. I'm also tall (5'11") and it bothers my knees and hips. Oh well.....at least we have Cathe for cardio!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one. I ran all the time when I was younger, but the bod just won't take that punishment any more. If I try a couple miles now, just to change things up a bit, my back and legs complain for days. I stick to step and hi/lo for aerobic exercise these days.

Raising a hand here. Bad knees. If someone gives me new ones for Christmas, I just might try running. But it's been decades since my wishes have been granted, and even then, not in the exact way I wanted.

I had thought I couldn't, tired it in Jr High and HATED it. Now I know why..BAD shoes and took it way too fast, did not work up to it...

Recently I went out and got analyzed for running shoes at RoadRunner Sports, got a good pair, got some good sox, and I am taking it SLOW...still running 4 minutes, walking 4 minutes, up to 30 minutes, and only on the pavement, not on the sidewalk. I hope these are the keys! So far I feel good. I am getting ready to step it up. I have never heard of body structure being key or a problem, but have not researched it. I am pretty much a ruler shape...narrow hips, narrow shoulders, long legs, but not particularly flexible. My legs and hips are sore the next day (I only run every other day) but not bad.

I am not a runner either. I could never pass those Presiden't physical fitness tests in school because I was too slow. My body is more suited to activities that take more raw power/strength. Like lifting. I have another problem with running. There isn't a sports bra out there that can make me comfortable with moves like running or jacks, even the Enell!

I couldn't pass those stupid test either. I was always too slow. So what, I bet I am in much better shape than most of the kids from junior high P.E.

My knees are shot. There is no way I could run except if I had to for life or limb - LOL!! I can't even do high impact cardio anymore and most step workouts are out as well. Oh well. There are plenty of ways to get your heart rate up without it, so I'm cool. We do what we have to.

I can't run either. High impact aerobics is out for me. I rarely do a step work out. I prefer moderate to high intensity, low impact cardio.

Carol (carol-is-fit), what's your cardio workout of choice?

Michele

Hi Michele, I use my rebounder a lot to modify high impact stuff in workouts I love too much to stop doing, or I do low impact step and use my Firm Transfirmer for most of it. It's a much softer surface than the Club step and for some reason it doesn't bother my knees as much. I also find doing workouts like Slim Series with low weights and high reps has a cardio effect for me. Tracie Long's Core Cardio is one I really love, and there are only a couple segments I have to modify to keep out the jumping, or remember to have the rebounder closely. Sometimes with workouts like that if the segments are short (as hers are), I can do them on the floor. It all depends on how I'm feeling that day.

What type of cardio do you enjoy? I always enjoy hearing what others do who don't run. It makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one!

Never ran, don't want to. I've race walked (or "power walked") for 14 years now and have never been injured because of it. I'll bet had I ran for those years I'd have suffered some sort of injury.
Just Do It! :)

Maybeeeee I could run, but really have no desire. Used to, but I remember clearly the day I quit (years ago!!!). Winter, running up a steeep hill and thinking "I hate this!"

I swim and do Cathe. An occasional eliptical trainer.

I like Cathe's KPC and Imax 2. I do those at least once per week. And the other benefit of these is that they are fun. I thought running was boring---maybe because I was going too slow, not much change of scenery.

Hand up! Right there with you! :)

I have done my fair share of running but honestly, it is just plain boring & more like torture than exercise to me! There are lots of other kinds of cardio that I prefer and can get myself excited and pumped up for! Another thing is that I have a bum knee and the impact of running just hurts it. I am also tall (6 feet) and so I have a very long stride but I wonder sometimes if that increases the impact on my body.

I can run every so often without feeling any pain so I keep it very infrequent and usually reserved to when I have my dog with me on a walk, the music is good and she gives me that "come on' mommy, let's do it!!" look!!!! I find that when I only do it once in a while, I get a high and can really push hard.

Nope! I never liked long distance running because:
1. Boring!
2. My lungs felt like they were going to explode!
3. Never the right weather or time of day.
4. Dangerous by yourself.
5. I always have to go poop when I'm a mile from home:+
6. I have bulging disk in my neck and the doctor said this is the worst form of exercise for that problem. Running on concrete is supposedly a big no-no.

So I stick with aerobic videos. I can do them no matter what time of day or weather!:7
