Anyone do step on the floor?

I have to temporarily give up step because of some knee issues.

I really miss my Cathe step workouts. Anyone do them on the floor?

Thanks.

The only step I've done on the floor is the warm up to MIS. (I just don't feel like setting up the step for the short warmup). I have to admit, though, it doesn't feel very comfortable, but I bet if I did it more often I'd get used to it. I'd give it a try and see how it goes. If you don't feel like you are getting a good enough workout, then move on to something else. Have you tried just using a 4 inch step while taking out the high impact moves? That might help.

Yes, I do step on the floor (I have puzzle mats over my carpet) when my knees become so ornery and can't handle even the 4". It does feel funny, but I'm familiar with the moves, and I just push aside the thought that the step isn't there. Instead, I concentrate on the cueing. Better safe than sorry.

When I feel like my knees are bothering me, I use a yoga matt in place of a step. I had a couple of matts, so I cut one down the same measurement as my step. It works very well on the floor. Be a little careful on the carpet though.

Good Luck,

Well, I pretty much ALWAYS do Cathe's step workouts on the floor. I have a couple of reasons for that, one of which is that the step is too tough on my knees and ankles. The other is that I have asthma and just can't take the added intensity of the step. My chiropractor recently mentioned to me that with my lower back, knees and ankles, I shouldn't be using a step, anyway. I still get an excellent workout. Yes, it might take a little longer in the beginning to feel the heart rate climbing (it takes about 10 minutes of Lowmax for me to really start sweating, even though my heart rate is up), but by the time I'm twenty minutes into any of the workouts, my heart is beating good and hard and I've got the sweat trickling down my face. I do the all-step premix of Lowmax, which lasts about 40 minutes, and when I'm finished with that workout, I'm just drenched and winded...even without the step.

You don't NEED a step to get an excellent cardio workout, but you do need to get used to how it feels without the step. I actually think I have a little more flexibility to modify without a step, if need-be.
